Napier-Railton AI drivers (!?!)

The AI drivers running the Napier-Railton in the vintage class road races, even at pro and unbeatable, careen wildly around the course like teenage tweakers. You’d think it was the first time they’d ever sat down in one of them. What the heck is going on with that? I mean, it’s not that hard to drive.

It’s what they do. I once did the Goliath twice in succession in vintage racers and watched the drivatar in the Napier-Railton slam into the wall just past the first checkpoint on both occasions.

On the other hand, I once saw a drivatar in the Railton pull off the most improbably manoeuvre in that Lakehurst circuit to avoid missing a checkpoint at that awkward first chicane.

Also, the drivatars love doing similarly dumb things in S2 and X-class cars. For example, there’s a good chance they’ll go flying into the pub on the south side of Mortimer Gardens; they’ll drive into the drystone walls along the coast road as you approach Thatch Corner; and they’ll go crashing into the trees at the top of the hill beyond that. I once saw one vanish off into infinity heading up towards the pub on the road between the windmill and the Tarn Howes Scramble.

A little incompetence at least humanises them.

If you make your own Goliath track you can fix the Drivatars with the driving line, and the checkpoint positions. Try my Goliath, I fixed a lot of the Ai problems.

The stock brakes on the Napier are absolutely terrible. The car was built for a land speed record and only has rear brakes. It’s difficult enough for a human to stop it, let alone an AI!
