Honestly, I don’t know what’s so tough about this having to be drilled into Turn 10 Studio’s brains; rubberbanding is a shameless, lazy tactic. 70s Muscle Cars shouldn’t be taking turns at 60+ MPH in the snow when compared to a rally tuned Datsun. This has been an issue for every Forza game I’ve played, and honestly, I don’t know why more people don’t bring this up.
I’ll start off the race in last place. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to move to third place. From there, the 70s Muscle Cars in front of me will be taking their perfect lines in the snow without any issue and will get half a mile ahead.
BUT NOOOOOOO! If I manage to get in first place, they become brain dead and incapable of passing me. They only halfa** race when they FEEL like halfa**ing.
Yeah the physics never apply to the AI the same way they do to you.
No matter how big your ground clearance is, the AI will always overtake you after a jump, or going through a river, wont skid on snow/rain when you barely can keep the car on the tarmac .
I have no issues with the fact that the AI not making mistakes - although if the drivatars based on the real person’s driving style then i’m surprised we have so many competitive drivers (sarcasm). So far i met only bad drivers who quit halfway when i got miles ahead of them, and only a very few actually good ones.
I’m not considering myself an excellent driver, but my skills are decent enough. Although i’m not really into tune each one of my car , i just download one of DJS’s tunes (if available), because they work for me 95% of the time.
Its just simply not true what they claim about the drivatars, they are simple AI drivers with totally different physics, they only take names after genuine Xbox players, but that’s where similarities end.
But if they are really reworking the AI, i would like to see the same physics applied to them too.
To be fair, I have seen the AI make mistakes, miss check points, mess up on jumps etc. But equally I have seen them do things that don’t seem right.
During said Dev stream they pretty much admitted that they let the AI cheat so they can match the difficulty set by the player, though they did not go into detail on the types of cheating that the AI does.
The “Aerodome” cross country circuit is a good example for that. There is a part before the last corner where you have 2 options, one is go in the middle between the containers which is very narrow, or take the jumps located on both sides. In the middle so far at every race one car always remained stuck from the first lap til’ you finished the race. Its very rare when they reset their position and continue the race.
Which is an example of the AI making mistakes, although its a bit buggy too.
I feel like its very hard to balance the AI the right way. The difficulty settings at the moment looking for me like:
Highly skilled - you hammer the AI easily
Expert - fair challenge, but you win too easily still. Some races are joke
Pro - would be perfect, but the AI physics ruin the experience, making many races very hard, or impossible to finish first without ramming or divebombing the AI (snowy or wet tracks).
I still play on pro. Sometimes choosing a different car can help me bag the victory, although not always.
