My refund explanation. - A Letter to Turn 10

Hi guys.

I’m a long time Forza player. I’ve owned every Forza game (minus 5, bought my xbox one when 6 came out) so I’m a little familiar with the series.

And overall, I’m just disappointed. I’ve always loved the Forza games, I grew up on them, learned drifting mechanics in them, learned about cars from them. But 7 doesn’t feel like Forza.

I remember when 2, 3, 4 came out. Each game added great features, gave you a reason to look forward to them. 5, I’ll skip on criticizing because A. I didn’t own it and B. It was a rushed launch title, a little understandable. However, Forza 7 brings back every feeling about the game being rushed that made me wait on 5. We’re 2 or 3 weeks out and we’re still missing features that have been in previous titles as well as still having numerous bugs. Personally, I’ve never really found bugs in the previous games. I’ve ran into numerous on 7. “But, it’s their first PC title for the main series!” Some might say, but there was an entire offshoot of 6 to essentially prepare the teams for the PC side, as well as Horizon 3. Bugs aside, that leads me to my next point which is…

Gameplay. The physics felt like a large improvement in tire feel from 6, at least to myself. The career mode was promising. Forza has literally changed nothing in the career mode since Forza 2, the same events, the same classes, just laid out differently. 7 was at least a bit different and added in points championships (Which was a big problem with 6 for me with just having to finish in the top 3 in EVERY SINGLE RACE) as well as different leagues and such. The homologation was a FANTASTIC idea, but poorly implemented. If there was different ones per car group, sure. The issues that arise here are that some cars you cannot tune whatsoever. Take the BMW E39 M5 for example. You cannot change a single item on it for homologation, it is at the class specs without modifying it. You cannot set it up for any tracks, tune how it drives or anything which puts it at a severe. That’s alright though because you can race it in other… oh wait, any race you use it in HAS to be bone stock unless you join a custom room with friends…but, there’s no open lobby’s anymore. That brings me to my next issue with 7, content.

Why would I want 7 compared to 6?

The game is now in 4k, okay so is every AAA title coming out now. “dynamic” weather? Well, I expected full weather and night cycles on every map if they were going to call it that. Otherwise it’s pretty similar to 6’s weather system where you basically got one per race. Driver gear? Cut me a break. Yes, it’s fun, but it’s not a “feature” on a racing game. Gran Turismo Sport has completely player customizable suits and helmets, yet they do not put it as a main feature of the game because it’s not. It’s finally on PC as well now! Okay, cool. I have an xbox still so it really doesn’t matter, and I’m sure 90% of the people who buy 7 already had one as well. Other then that, new cars and tracks. Most of the tracks have been in the game at some point or another, and as far as car count there’s barely any actual new cars that weren’t DLC in previous games so… can’t I just buy the DLC instead of a whole new game? Alright, well lets go online and try some racing! Wait… why’s there only 4 hoppers? I can only choose 30 cars total in the entire online right now? C’mon Turn 10.

Other then that, what reason was there to get 7? There’s no new content or features worth actually getting the game for that I can find.

Turn 10 stated that they were trying to add more driver depth to the series with its sad attempt at driver suits. You want to add more driver depth into the game? Add in a career that’s actually focused on you as a driver. Look at the original Grid, where you work your way up from nothing to a team owner, Project Cars, or the F1 games where you run actual racing seasons. As as simulator, there’s not a lot of the “life” simulation part in the Forza series and I feel it needs to take a step towards that if it’s going to keep the simulator title, especially when you have the Horizon games to fill the arcade gap now.

Forza needs new features to keep up I feel. Car count only gets you so far, especially when I’m sure everyone has their favorite cars they gravitate towards every game.

All in all, I know most of these points have been repeated countlessly since launch. I’m just disappointed the game is showing cracks, I’m disappointed I don’t have a reason to play this game, and I’m disappointed that the game is on such a set production cycle of every 2 years because it’s taking its toll on making Forza BETTER. I know if Turn 10 actually had the time to make what I’m sure they wish they could, Forza Motorsport 8 could be one of the most amazing games out there.

I hope the next Forza gives me a reason to come back.

Glad you joined the “refund crew” lmao. It feels good that by the time they get there stuff together and it’s a game worth playing after the 30 patches it will be in the clearance isle or so many people have traded it in that they can’t get rid of them that they have to sell it cheap. I’d pay 15 bucks for this game, heck yeah.

Edit: Let me edit this to say, T10 doesn’t care or listens enough to us to even put enough work to release 30 patches. Pretty soon we will get a statement saying, “Due to us working on Forza 8, we can not focus enough resources to be patching Forza 7, It’s a lost cause, lets move on to the next disappointment” lol they only care enough to patch it 5 times and after that…that game is what it is.

I expected a childish complaint but instead I 100% agree.

To add injury to insult, they released that trailer showing an actual pit crews swapping tires and refueling. THAT would be a feature. And Forza is actually one of few racing games that has failed to implement that. Come to find that it wasn’t in the game. Talk about misleading the shareholders.

Forza 6 and 7 are nothing more than big DLCs for Forza 5. It’s sad really. The biggest reason people buy the latest Forza now is to get a modern roster of cars (except toyotas apparentely).

A great idea for campaign would be starting out club/amateur racing C to S class then onto GT3,GT2,LMP etc. not just giving different names to the same thing and forcing us to complete it for certain cars… You want to simulate a drivers experience? Then put us through the paces a lot of amateur turned pro drivers have done. No one cares about “car bowling”.

Anyways, this’ll get lost as well I’m sure. I haven’t refunded the game but this really was my last straw… I don’t see myself going for 8. Sad

I haven’t refunded… Yet.
But I agree with everything written above. There’s no reason whatsoever to buy FM7, wish I hadn’t, but I did, gonna wait for the first Car Pack to drop (whenever that’s going to happen), if no serious fixes are done I’ll try for a refund, just hope it won’t be too late by then.

I found the new career mode to be a compelling enough reason to get the game. This was, however, the first in awhile that I didn’t preorder or get right at launch. I still don’t find the car or track list particularly exciting, but I like the game a smidge more than 6, which I liked more than 5, which I liked WAY more than 4.

Based on much of the complaining, though, I’m glad I care not a whit about PvP.

i’ve never played Forza 7 and bought this because it’s the first Motorsport release on PC (not counting Apex). I’ve always wanted that nice in between sim and arcade, the same itch that NFS Shift 1 and 2 gave me. Except, Forza offers so much more.

I understand why a Forza veteran would have issues recommending this. But for me personally, it was a no brainer. It is a shame that I bought it this early, cause it just doesn’t work (constantly crashes, stuttering etc). But I’m willing to sit it out a bit longer, and see if they fix it, and I sincerely hope they do.

Feel sorry for you but i like the game so… Goodbye forever!

Overall I enjoy the game. Bugs are bugs. The only thing that would even get me to think about a refund is the constant crashing and freezing, especially in multiplayer when trying to choose a car (something that every Forza since FM2 did, but not to this extreme).

I agree with most of what’s said, but it’s not anywhere near bad enough for me to ask for a refund.

I had a great time playing FM1-4 both single player and online, all with a wheel. Could never play racing games with a controller.

By the time FM5 came out, I had switched to PC for racing games and didn’t have a Xbone compatible wheel and pedal setup, so I didn’t get it or FM6.

Now that it is on PC, and I can play it with my wheel and pedals, I’m having a lot of fun.

Is it perfect? No, not even close yet. I get extremely long (10+ minutes) loading times at some tracks and the occasional CTD. The worst one was when I did the 80 lap race at Indy with the IndyCar. The track had been disappearing the whole race and finally the game crashed on lap 68.

I haven’t even tried the online and probably won’t at all. I have iRacing with 100% content for that. FM7 for me is a casual, fun, bash through the AI drivatard single player game.

Hopefully T10 will continue patching the game to make it an easier experience.

Im not downing your post, Im just using a point you made and elaborating my own opinion.
This is everything wrong with Forza 7, the AI is absolutely horrible. Its ok for Horizon, but this is a motorsport game. This just teaches everyone else how to drive in multi it seems. Like someone else said, bugs are bugs, it will always plague game launches. T10 silence is causing more problems than anything else, communication would help alot.

Unfortunately, I completely agree with all of this. I haven’t refunded my game, and probably won’t, the driving itself is what keeps me playing for now, but I’m definitely not making the mistake of pre-ordering the ultimate edition of a Forza game again. Depending on how (if) Forza 7 gets “fixed”, I might not be returning to the franchise anytime soon. Just the absolute mountain of bugs and glitches alone is enough to drive anyone up the wall, and that’s for the lucky people who can even get the game to work.

But hey! You can make the dancing idiot who is standing in front of your car all the time look like a Ninja! Or a Clown! How cool is that? /s
