I’ve not played that much multiplayer in Forza 5 compared to previous releases yet, being too busy the last few months the main reason. I’ve tried a few lobbies this week, and I have always had massive lag, making driving basically impossible. It seems to only be affecting my session, as most other cars have been driven off fine. I’ve not got a video (could take one if needed), but I get literally a second of control, then about half a second of pause before jumping on, then less than a second and another long pause happening repeatedly. Obviously it makes car control and cornering virtually impossible.
I’ve been in the Open Wheels lobby 3 times last weekend, C-Class and A-Class beginners a couple of times each over the last few days too, but same each time. Sometimes joining lobbies with 12 racers, which presumably are racing fine as they are hanging around for another race, sometimes starting a new lobby and racing against just one other, but I’m always having lag.
I have a business fibre obtic broadband, which is (well, should be) quick. Checking on the Xbox it says 40-50 Mbps each time after a bad session, which is inline which my laptops. Network strength normally says about 85% (it’s in the room next to the broadband, no option for running Ethernet through, but obviously that should be fine). Any suggestions? I tried going back to dashboard but as that hasn’t helped, I’ve now tried unplugging the Xbox for a few hours to let it cool down or whatever and have reset the broadband too (even though everything else works fine on it), but all to no avail.
I had a quick look in Settings->System to see if there was a Clear a Cache option but haven’t found anything there that could help. A quick search on this forum hasn’t shown up anything either.
Thanks in advance for any other suggestions, would be good to be able to join in with some races properly.
What fixed my problem was make sure I had no more than one other device connected to my Internet besides my Xbox One. That took care of my problem. Do you have computers, tablets, & cell phones all on your wifi at the same time with your Xbox One? I didn’t think that would effect mine since I wasn’t using them, but they still be talking with the Internet. Which gave me weak Internet connection.
Once I made sure it was just my Xbox One or no more than one other device with it, no more problems. I understand you got a rather fast connection. Forza only uses 350kbps download and 350kbps upload, however other devices can effect it unfortunately, in my experience.
Thanks for the suggestion. At most times it’s just been one phone and one laptop, both doing very little at that point. Will try taking the phone off to see if that helps tomorrow, along with the patch update, but not holding out much hope. Fingers crossed I can start joining in again soon though.
When I get really “laggy” I shut down my One, and reboot my router ( instead of just turning it off for ten seconds I wait a few minutes, probably makes no difference.) That’s what works for me along with what gangrel suggested about having other devices off. Hope you get it sorted.
Are you wired or wireless? If the latter, try the former. Also Xbox One uses different ports than 360, so first check your network settings (Xbox Support) and see if NAT is open. And check your router has the right ports forwarded (Xbox Support)
Hard reboot your One after making any changes.
Also, one last thought - what is your ping? (speedtest.net will tell you) - less than 50ms ideally. I have seen a few BT Infinity lines over the last few weeks with terrible pings - get BT to check the line if yours is really high.
Thanks for all the suggestions (and the welcome back). It’s been working well today.
Changes have been turning wireless of the Smart TV while using Xbox has clearly helped a bit, (phone and laptop turned back on now, but that seems fine), and leaving Xbox and broadband unplugged for a day while I was out at clients.
So I can now hopefully be around a bit more (on here and the game), and fingers crossed for no more lag, for a while at least.
15ms for ping at the moment, but I am an infinity customer so I will bear that suggestion in mind too.
I have been having similar issues. Started about a month ago and there’s nothing that I have done that has helped at all. If it only takes 350kbps up and download, the modem connection is 10MBps, and a internet speed test page says I’m getting 1.1MBps up and 900kbps download, then I cannot understand what the issue is. I’ve tried wired and wireless with minimal results. It is so bad I can no longer race online in the league I was in or just online in general.
That is the correct amount of download and upload speed required (thats what my DLink router shows for network traffic while playing FM5 online in a hopper). Try to race online with only your Xbox One connected to your Internet. Have no other device connected to Internet in your home (completely cut off or kill wifi connection to the other devices).
As for me, leaving only one other device connected to Internet at the same fixed my lag issues completely. I have a bunch off stuff that was connected to my 10mbps down connection. Xbox One, Xbox 360, 2 tablets, cell phone, & laptop.
When I play online in Forza 5 now, only my cell is connected or my wife’s tablet. One of the 2, nothing else. online is back smooth for me.
