Hi everyone! I was doing some online racing the other day and I was messing around with a friend; then something weird occurred at the start. Luckily I got the chance to get a clip of what happened. In future reference if anyone does race me online, my network has that “Weak network connection” permanently stuck to the bottom of the screen and lag always happens so if this happens to you when I’m racing I apologize.
“Lag” can be “your” settings or someone in the room which is affecting the play because they have the wrong NAT (Network Address Translation) selection or just a poor link on the Internet. Just because someone has a “200Mbit/20Mbit connection” doesn’t mean once you get beyond your Internet Service Provider’s Central Office that you have that all over the world.
Ask the ISP - they only guaranteed 80% of the quoted speed to their own equipment. Beyond that, they have no control over the DNS servers and the various links to your destination. See this Xbox Support information for the proper Xbox One networking settings: Xbox Support
NOTE: Depending on your router/modem, you may need to consult the manufacturer’s website for the proper setup for Xbox LIVE.
No worries on the setup, I am in IT for almost 2 decades now and just never encountered anything like that video ever in all my life on XBOX & PC gaming.
The best one was, I was racing at Yas and as the lights turned green I was flung 300m in the air doing barrel rolls. I went so high up that I went past the Bridge/Banner that is hanging over the grid and hit on the way down. I missed the recording on it though
@Dust&worm, Good thing I live right next to a army reserve there is millions of roos that come to my fence on a daily basis. Might snag a couple of them.
I replaced my roo with 2 wombats yesterday. They are slower, but the internet is much more stable now, as it should be. Wombats running in the wheel instead of a roo hopping. They would hit there heads, then their feet would sometimes get caught in the gaps which would cause intermittant drop outs and lag spikes.
I’ve tried playing on multiplayer and lag really bad, I’m only running at 14.42mbps and a ping of 41, I have cars that I’m racing jumping in the air or they will be next to me then all of a sudden I’ll be knocked off the track because someone has crashed into me, you need to be running at least 24mb and a ping rate of 10, I’m trying to get fiber optic as hopefully that will solve the problem. My mate over in France experiences the same problems.
it wont, as already pointed out by snowowl. There is to many uncontrollable variables between your connection with your ISP and the servers used. You could have 100/40 with a ping of 5 and still lag.
My “standard” connection into the Seattle/Redmond area is 14 “hops” and goes through three different backbones, plus several DNS servers. And I’m not that far away, it is just the way things are routed.
Coupled with local “upgrades” in the hardware and some lines by my Internet Service Provider, I’m currently very lucky if I get 80% speeds of my given rate on DSL checks. Most of the time it is a problem with high latency rates, likely caused by all the account being congested while the ISP tries to make more room.
