Meetup etiquette?

I have been having alot of fun with meetups but have noticed that while theyre great for the first 20minutes, almost every single one devolves into a demolition derby.

Is this workIng as intended? Or can people driving backwards crashing into people be reported/banned? Just not sure on T10s position here.

I used to play a lot in the “group search”. Sometimes it was a lot of fun. But I also got into groups where they were only looking for victims to crash against by driving counter-clockwise to crash.

The new “meetups” are apparently the latest thing being used for this.

The main thing for T10 is that there are enough players. Whether they are “racers” is apparently not important.

can people driving backwards crashing into people be reported/banned?

Yes… IF you scan the QR code, which is a needlessly (but at least mildly) complicated process.

That being said, however, I was recently in a meetup with a Marshal at Mid-Ohio Short. They were parked in the runoff at the outside of T2, and I figured I would park next to them and see what happened. About a minute or two later, someone went off the track, hit the marshal (I’m not sure if it was an accident or not), and came to a stop. The marshal then approached the offender, hit them, and then poof - the offender disappeared, which I can only assume means the marshal kicked them.

At least that means T10 is actually doing something about this MP mess!

Dont get me wrong, messing around can be fun to see what can be done.

This rando yesterday drove around with my upside down ferrari 166 on his hood for a while which took some coordination.

Its just by the time more then half the server is going nuts, it makes it impossible for others to try and get laps in.

Then you have some that will join, post #1 spot with a bad amr pro laptime, and the. Wait at a hairpin to crash into any amr pro or f1 car that drives by.

I think the best solution would be to let people toggle ghosting for themselves. Thar way ppl can mess around and drive seriously at the same time.

If you could “ghost”, what would be the difference to a training ride in free mode?

What I would like, but doesn’t make sense, is the possibility to kick out certain players. If more than a third of the players could select and kick a certain player. But this is also a double-sided sword, as the “rammer” could also kick “honest” players. The game “Forza Motorsport” simply doesn’t have any real “racers” anymore. It has become a playground for anything but racing. Not a single one of my friends plays this game anymore. I have my fun “tuning” and playing all sorts of things.

I think if someone goes the wrong way around a track they should be ghosted and then be warned then automatically kicked if they proceed to drive the wrong way.
I also think either lower classes should be in a separate lobby or you can set a specific class to ghost mode maybe.

Because you could still be social of course. My suggestion was for meetups only.

You are right. I’m still social with my friends but not in Forza Motorsport. Many of them I met for the first time in Forza, be it Horizon or Motorsport. A lot has changed and T10 has brought back certain features but they are no longer used for the original intent. There is no “etiquette” anymore! Everything is EGO. EGO-shooter or just Forza “torpedo”. I am sad that it has taken this development.

It seems anything goes in meet-ups.
It might be nice if each player had the option to ghost themselves individually so that they could drive however they want without affecting others - and so we had the option to choose whether or not to be smashable targets.

Ghosting just needs to be implemented for cars driving in the wrong direction. Or for cars stopped. That’s all it would take to eliminate the problem.

That’s a very good topic.

I think driving backwards on Fujimi Kaido should be acceptable if respectful driving is assumed. I’d even say it should be normalised - this way more people would expect oncoming traffic and check minimap.
It’s easy to avoid accidents when everyone is aware of possible traffic but can be very hard if even 1 person assumes the road is clear. Like 90% of the time I have no issues avoiding accidents but I’ll admit - there were a few times when I caused some by not checking the minimap. And it gets trickier when there’s 2 drift trains approaching each other from different directions.

Sure, we can raise the question of morality of going the opposite way, but we also can raise such question regarding people voting for switching the normal dry layout to the reversed layout in rain, for example. I had that yesterday while trying to dial in my dry setup and it was a bit of a bummer - just like oncoming traffic can be. I think it kinda evens out from the perspective of morality.

I don’t mind the wet weather. but drifting uphill in reversed layout is just not enjoyable or even challenging - it kinda feels like a chore until you get to the top, so I don’t enjoy being forced to do that (or more like forced out of the lobby) by someone’s vote.

A few things that might help adress this problem:

  • Mutual respect and understanding
  • More informative minimap (it has a list of issues tbh)
  • Some warnings in event info or loading screen
  • Ghosting on pause (without AI takeover)
  • Separate lobbies for Normal and Reversed (not a fan of this at all as it would split the playerbase)

And just to be clear Fujimi Kaido is the only track where I think driving the opposite way should be discussed. On other tracks it shouldn’t be a thing at all.

I’m a big fan of the track day meet ups. To me it brings a great deal of immersive reality to the game. But drive against the normal track direction on any real world track and a track Steward is going to escort you directly out of the facility.

I’d certainly vote for it in the SHUB

And the ghosting should always be longer than they actually drive into the wrong direction. So if for example somebody does Donuts, he also stays ghosted the moment he drives forward while doing Donuts, maybe a minute or something. This way the most annoying situations are solved.
So a sort of delayed unghosting if playing by the rules again.

So the ghosting time should be actually longer than necessary just to be sure. There could be a message in the top of the HUD that says what they do wrong. Or what would be even better a MASSIVE BANNER that almost blocks the entire screen, only to annoy these ppl.

Something like “TURN AROUND NOW” or “STOP DOING DONUTS” or "YOU BECOME A GHOST FOR INACTIVITY IN 3…2…1…0. But these message also have to be a bit time delayed, maybe 3-5 seconds or something, so if for example you do a drift and fail because you spin out, you don’t immediatly get a message on screen.

The only ones they can’t do much against, are the rammers that keep driving in the correct direction, well with a bit of skill they can be avoided. They lose interest after a while, if they realize it’s pointless anyway.

It’s a simple few things that makes it all much more relaxing for everyone.

The AMR pro drivers are a total menace in these meetup lobbies.

I don’t think we should go so far as to outlaw donuts in meetups.

Big difference between donuts in a chicane vs donuts in a runoff area

I don’t mind if they do Donuts, but they should be ghosted.

I also don’t mind if they drive into the wrong direction, if they are ghosted. I can understand that ppl want to drive a specific part of the track several times without having to drive the full track again. But it needs ghosting.

If they don’t offer regular Trackdays and only these Drift Meetups for Fujimi, then they have to do something about these annoying ppl. And yes Donuts are annoying. I also hate drifting but that is another topic. If the ppl that drift notice I want to get past them, they usually let me through. But ppl that do Donuts are usually not that kind of player.

I like how Forza Horizon 5 handles this:

  • If you’re in a friend group collisions are on for each of you.
  • Anyone that’s not in your friend group is ghosted.

There’s no way I could tune a car in Meetup. My mind is on the car, its handling, and the road immediately in front of me, not the minimap or the traffic. Until they ghost the other players, I’ll keep my tuning in FreePlay (test drive mode) or Private Multiplayer if I have a friend tuning with me. Love Meetup though for the socializing.
