Isn’t it the same game unless you’re playing on 4K level of detail?
Either you’re playing with their 4K settings and it looks great or you’re playing with their not 4K settings and it looks like it’s 10 years old.
Friend, 4K has nothing to do with the look of the game - i.e. detail levels, object geometry, lighting, AA, filtering etc - it is simply a boost in resolution. Period.
Again I get that. As I said in another reply - PC gets a 95 GB file whole Xbox only gets 67 GB. What exactly do you think is in those extra gigs? Content???
No! Those extra 28 GB have graphics and textures and visual upgrades. So while yes 4k is a resolution and not a 'looks booster" the extra files you can only get on PC or X1X are a visual booster.
I misspoke. It’s not the 4k that makes it “look better”. It’s the content you can only get with the larger file.
To set the record straight for good, the extra gigs are for the 4K resolution. You’d be surprised how much space higher-res (not higher detailed) textures take up. Four times the res, think about it. T10 has made it official that the extra GB which comes up to a total of 95 gigs is for 4K textures. Notice how they say “4K textures” and not “ultra high detail 4K textures”.
In case you’ve missed some of the more recent posts, PC users have said the game does not look quite as good as F6 Apex or Horizon 3. The same is the case on the Xbox One. The same will be the case on the One-X but you will see that it will all be overshadowed by HDR and 4K.
4k is just a resoultion. I play on ultrawide 3440 x 1440 with 110% upscaling.
On Pc you set each parametr like shadows/reflection and so on with slider from low to ultra. I play on ultrawide 3440 x 1440 with 110% upscaling.
I understand that 4K is just a resolution, but if you have a 4K capable device you actually get different files in the game that you don’t otherwise get. The Xbox One (non 4k) game is 67 GB while the Xbox One X (4k) version of the game is 95 megabytes Plus…
I’m pretty sure that it’s not additional content in those twenty eight gigs but textures and graphical updates that they didn’t include in the smaller file size because the consoles can’t handle it. I’m not quite sure how it works on the PC as my PC isn’t that high-end and I have not yet downloaded the game there.
Some official comment from T10 would be welcomed. All cars looking like covered with matte vinyl looks quite weird and breaking immersion. As the infamous two-polygon trees at Maple Valley - shaders on cars without reflection and extrem low-poly trees are so 1998. Everything else is top quality so these two graphical issues are very out of place.
I haven’t seen any ai controlled cars without liveries and they were plenty metallic.
As for the trees…do you REALLY notice the trees while you are racing? Would you rather super high detailed car models, amazing lighting and effects or…better trees you only see when stopped? Of all the complaints ever leveled at this series the trees is the dumbest. Alot of if not most games like this use Sprite based trees.
Yesterday I bought this and pcars2. Ran them both maxed out at 4k. Pcars2 looked like a last generation game by comparison. Especially the rain effects on the interior view…ugly.
Yes, I really notice them, and I like to watch replays, sometimes making photos and then low detail track objects even more disturbing.
Super high detailed cars or better trees? I think its possoble to make both at the same time. A couple minutes ago I had a race at Prague and man, that track looks beautiful in Forza 7, it was really an immersive experience! That track is very detailed, maybe even more than in Forza 6 - and haven’t noticed any frame rate drop.
I don’t expect 30.000 polygons per tree but I don’t get why Maple Valley the same trees as other tracks. What we got now is two intersecting polygons with a texture - that’s OK for foliage in the back rows but there should be at least a couple of a little more detailed (about 200 polys is enough) trees in the mix. That’s still very low polycount which wouldn’t hurt frame rate, but it’s enough for not breaking immersion.
I wouldn’t say that the graphics of F7 is bad, but it’s quality is very uneven - sometimes the game looks amazing but there are some details which are hard to understand.
Back to topic:, matte cars. I cannot figure out what causes this. I do the Modern Sport Compact races in Breakout and the grid is full of matte cars. And now a surprise, a nice one!
For a break I made a Vintage Coupe (or what is it called? The division with the Jag E-Type and the Gullwing 300SL). 15 AI at Monza. Every car looked nice and glossy!
OK, maybe it wasn’t full grid. New race with 23 drivatars. No matte car again! Wow! OK, Monza is a non-weather track. New race at VIR South, full grid, heavy rain. Again all of the cars looked nice and the frame rate felt rock solid. What makes it even more interesting that those vintage cars has many polygons, there were many roadsters and convertibles on the grid with detailed interiors.
I got no clue guys…
