If they bring back the AMA series, a deep dive into matchmaking, rating etc. would be something I’d enjoy reading. Their FRR one was really good.
By me, the changes are working. The lobbies are a way more balanced and competitive - but, needs a hotfix, the only problem, there is a generation of a new lobby then already existing two or three lobbies with some people. Hopefully they refine it and made a hotfix today.
Agreed.
From experience, getting a dev team to change course post-launch is incredibly difficult as it requires upending a lot of work that was done over the past few years pre-launch (UI, code, production, network engineering, localisation, design etc.). It’s normally only done in emergencies, and Turn 10 have only done it a handful of times in their 20 year history (a notable example was removing the pseudo-lootboxes from Forza Motorsport 7).
We saw how haphazard their course correction was with Car Points and while we can now freely upgrade cars, it is a little clunky to have to bypass the whole “you don’t have enough Car Points” messaging every time. That’s the result of changing a locked down system without risking its removal breaking the entire game’s core functions.
Also, that was a course-correction on the most fundamental feature functionality in the entire game, which affects 100% of players. By my loose estimates (Achievement data), fewer than 25% of people have tried multiplayer and fewer than 10% have stuck with it, so you can imagine that a design rework of Featured Multiplayer is lower down the priority list.
Machmaking not working at all tbh, skill gap still visible, and additionaly almost no players in lobby [tho i guess there are many players with different skill level that have 4999 driver score ]
…
Touring Car Event with 1 minute before access closes…
Lobby with 12 player
*quits lobby
Retry with 30 seconds remaining…
7 players lobby…
WHY these 7 people are not with the other 12 players and make a rece for 19 people?
xD
It’s pretty obvious there were no matchmaking in place before this patch, and now it try to match players level somehow. What is concerning is that they says they improve population when the result is the complete opposite.
only one close race i had so far… but this is one of most popular meta tune tracks
Whats even funnier, i got full lobbies one i got 6s penalty in previous race, intresting…
I guess since most of players have A safety rating, once u get into S, u get no oponents.
Has not worked been off since the update and now there less each lobby I’ve been
I can’t keep asking for this because I’m losing the desire to help but there no update you can do that will replace a laptime matchmaking system like gt7 & iracing
The training time in the lobby, as well as the time between races, is way too short. As a result, the lobbies don’t fill up at all. Another reason for this is the new matchmaking system. Even though the goal was to fill the lobbies more, the exact opposite has been done. The lobbies are almost always empty. I hope it can be fixed soon, as it’s a disaster for the multiplayer mode.
I joinned to a fresh lobby (12 minutes before start)
Touring Car
And by 4 minutes the lobby was already with 8 players, the max number of players was 12 even with more than 5 minutes left… the race started with only 11 players
it was like the lobby was capped for only 12 players max…
hmmmm weird…
Recently participated in a TCR | Silverstone race, there were 14 people.
But that’s the maximum I’ve seen since the game update.
Had 16 just now it so poor I’m so disappointed by this sorry to be negative.
I joinned one TCR race on Hakone with 1 minute before start and i got a lobby with 18 players, thats the maximum players i hace reaced since the update.
That is of total players that have played though. Of active, regular players, I imagine the multiplayer hours way outstrips the single player hours.
It feels like the single player gamers have mostly given up. And I do feel like that is a terrible thing. There just isn’t much to do single player wise and bad AI makes what little there is worse. Freeplay doesn’t provide the options and good AI of a game like Automobilista 2 for it to be a fun sandbox that keeps people coming back. It lacks single player non-rivals events like drift, drag, autocross, licensing, spec racing, and silly games to break up the monotony.
I just don’t see how they fix single player without it starting from scratch. Making more permanent series could help a small amount and more options to get fomo cars that are gone. I feel like rivals could be greatly improved by adding permanent drift events, car division sorting, and permanent bop spec events with by car sorting.
Of the players left in the game though, I’d wager the vast majority of them are in that 10%. What is exciting to bring the single player back? Most of my time in FH5 was spent in single player/rivals, and for the most part I had fun. For FM to fix that, they need to basically remake the game. Tinkering at the edges won’t do it.
Just joined to a GT2 lobby right now, 16mins of practice time left, started with me and 1 other player, it’s now 8mins before the race and I’ve got 12 in the lobby, this is much better than the 3 players I was getting yesterday, will see if this continues.
Turn 10 should display how many player are in each playlist on here because I’m so confused by this suggested update
I’m not asking you specifically, @YesChef_FM, but more of a question for anyone who knows: What is the purpose of the “Entry Criteria” line in the event description? Has it ever been anything other than “None”?
It would seem to indicate that, at some point, there was/is an intention to introduce events where only drivers meeting a certain skill or safety rating are allowed to participate. Or maybe it would indicate special events where you need to pre-register on a designated website or something? Genuinely curious.
Yeah has crossed my mind but don’t think I’ve ever seen it change from none
I noticed today. That when you join a lobby you are forced to skip the next race. So you can only race every other race. This is splitting the players into 2 groups. This has to be preventing the lobbies from filling up. If you do a 10 minute race every 17 minutes. That gives players 7 minutes to qualify. everyone would be in the same rotation of tracks. Players being split is not good for lobby population.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that would work.
I’m pretty sure they spread it farther than it was. Before you would miss the next race and only have like 2 minutes to jump in the next one. So you’d basically miss 2 races unless you were willing to go with whatever usually 3-6 person lobby you ended up in joining so late. Now you should have more time and only miss 1.
