So I’ve had the Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel for a bit and it’s only happened a few times but sometimes I lose any feeling of feedback when it comes to running over bumpy roads and rumble strips and I lose feeling when my tires start losing traction, all I have to do to solve the problem is restart the game but still it’d be nice if this could be fixed in a hot patch or update, anybody else with a TX wheel noticing this?
It’s designed to happen. Over long periods of play the motors are being constantly worked and progressively getting hotter and hotter. After a certain threshold the force feedback motors will begin to reduce their intensity in order to prevent motor failure. The reduction in intensity is only enough that it slows the rate of heating, but it will still get hotter. When it reaches another threshold the vibration motor will turn off and the feedback motor power will significantly drop. It’s a defence mechanism.
Restarting the wheel isn’t the best solution since you are force overriding the temperature control and causing the motors to go hotter than they are designed for. Stick it out and it will slowly come back as things cool down, or just pause and take a 5-10 minute break. Chances are you’ve been playing for awhile when it happens so a break won’t hurt. It takes me a solid hour or more of drifting at 100% feedback and that’s pretty heavy on the motors before I feel it dropping off much. If you want to go longer try lowering the force feedback in the options a bit.
At least that’s my understanding of it, there’s no official statement I’ve seen but this is what I’ve gathered from my experiences.
Almost everything you said above is true re FFB and Thrustmaster have confirmed this (see earlier post on TX rumble issues) except Im still not convinced that the vibration motor should cut off as that doesn’t happen on PC in my experience, and Thrustmaster has confirm it’s a software issue that MS / Turn 10 need to resolve. With that said I’ve not heard / seen any reports of this happening with the MadCatz wheel, although that’s probably difficult to determine as reports are that FFB / vibration is pretty weak on it anyway
I gotcha, but it’s not really happening after long periods of gaming, I’ve played for 3 hours straight before and it’s not happened to me but the other day I played for an hour and one race felt everything and the next race I could feel everything as is except for when I was supposed to get a bump sensation, which I’d assume thats the vibration issue that Owen pointed out and that’s what I’m mainly talking bout. Also to be clear to fix the issue, I’m not restarting the wheel at all, I’m restarting the game itself so it’s definitely something in the game, not the wheel.
You are talking about Vibration, not FFB. It’s vibration that makes you feel rumble strips, bumpy roads & lose of traction. FFB is the resistance you get when turning your wheel. The loss of vibration on Xbox One FM5 is a software issue by T10/MS. I can’t wait for November & see if @WMDCars got it right with Project Cars.
On the PC, the wheel works fine with no loss of vibration at all.
Yes I realize that now, but to be fair the “vibration” isn’t what you’d expect, normally vibration just means vibrate but in this instance it means the wheel turns in slight movements back and fourth, you can see this by opening up the control panel on ur computer and testing the bump road simulation.
Done! Thanks for the suggestion, also supposedly they updated the game today to “increase the feel and performance for wheels” so hopefully they fixed the problem.
Turns out it does not lol lost vibration after bout 20 minutes of racing, backed out and restarted the game and played for another 2 hours with no problems. I will say the wheel definitely feels differently ever since the update though, can’t quiet explain it but almost as if the FFB is a little less strong?
Yeah the Vibration Loss is still happening. Yesterday i did a 1 Hour Race and after about 45 minutes the Vibration cut out. It is very anoying, but Turn10 and Microsoft apparently does not care. It´s a shame!!! The Thrustmaster TX Wheel is designed for Xbox One. And in the Product description it says: This next-generation steering wheel allows unprecedented impressions in Forza Motorsport 5. NO IT DOESN´T! The Wheel doesn´t work as it should with Forza Games! And the overall FFB is bad too. Absolute no FFB around Centre and the FFB effects compared to other Sims on PC is just bad!
On The PC the Wheel works as it should and it´s amazing.
It doesn’t happen with me after a long time of racing. It can happen with me only after 15 minutes or so. Go to run another race after I finish one and it comes back. Very strange feeling when it does disappear.
