The blurb on the shifter. This sounds different…
If anyone knows this, please answer. Did the G25/G27’s shifter “click” into gear?

I was referring to the L3/R3 buttons, the +/- and the dial which, for a game like Project CARS, would be extremely functional.
Also shifter lights are functional and pretty cool.
^Yes
Ah…
So the shifter is carry over. As are the pedals, it’s just different color spring casings. Everything else looks the same.
Hmm. $400 is starting to sound steep to me as well.
well move to PC and buy a G27 for 300.
Beggars cant be choosers…
I already own a working wheel. It’s not the best thing ever, but it works. So I don’t need a G27 for PC gaming. And 90% of my reluctance to move on to any of the XB1’s offerings, comes from comparing what I’d get, to what I’d lose. Yes, the CSR isn’t better than a G27. In many accounts it’s a lateral move in performance. The G27 is more reliable, but it is weaker. Wheel bases aside, the pedals are huge steps backwards, and I only have the basic CSR pedals.
Worm’s pretty much nailed my dilemma. He’s been paying attention to some of the things I’ve wrote, and to that; I’m gonna pass on the G920. While Logitech’s dependability is comforting, there has to be a lot more done to the wheel, shifter and pedals to justify it’s price. For now that doesn’t seem to be the case. Take it down to $300, and it’s a deal. At $400… Sorry. Not worth the coin.
And my change of mind happened when I realized that the shifter and pedals are carry-overs.
If a Fanatec breaking on you a couple times a year is worth what it costs the weaker Logitech is worth every penny given it lasts forever.
+1! I’ve always been about quality first. What good is it to make a wheel that may function better, yet break so often that it’s being repaired more than played? As for the price, I can bet you that after 6 months to a year after release, the price will go down. But IMO, if the G920 turns out to be just as reliable as the G27 is, then it’s the best option out there. Fanatec have kind of put themselves in a place where no one really wants to wait for their less expensive offerings and if they do bring out the less expensive offerings, how will the quality be on them.
The TX is a good wheel, if it doesn’t die. The base itself is awesome, but the standard 458 rim it comes with is a piece of plastic junk and the pedals are average at best. I use mine with the Ferrari GTE wheel, a basherboards and Fanatac CS pedals v2. Its awesome, but expensive.
The wheel rim of a DFGT is better than the standard TX rim, and while the G27 tech may be old its tried and true and its not bad by any means.
So cost wise, in Australia anyway, the options for ffb xbone wheel are; TX, Fanatec, Madcatz and G290
$ all AUD
TX (by itself) $549
Additions:
Shifter $224
3 Pedal set $189 (T3PA) or $349 (T3PA pro)
Rim $195 (458 GTE) or F1 ($219)
Fanatec
CSW Base $850
Xbox Hub+ rim $530
Pedals $99 - $380
shifters - $80 - $230
Madcatz - $680
Wheel and 2 Pedal set
Logitech
G290 - $500
Wheel and 3 Pedal set
Shifter - $$$?
Logitech wins on price and what you get for it. DFGT, G25 and G27 has some of the best reliability, not to mention there are so many mods out there for the pedals, so if the pedals are just rehashed G27 pedals then there’s so much already on the market to improve them. They might not have the newest tech but definitely reliable and logitech wheels definitely aren’t terrible FFB wise
I’m totally thinking about selling my TX and buying the G920. The cost of the wheel and shifter is less than the combination of the Thrustmaster TX, T3PA pedals, TH8A shifter and TM leather 28 GT wheel I’d like to get for my TX. The reliability and 2 year warranty make it worth the price. My first TX lasted 30 seconds and my second has thankfully had no problems, but who knows how long that will last for?
In Canada the breakdown is as follows:
Logitech G920 $500 (2 year warranty)
Driving Force shifter $60
TOTAL: $560
Thrustmaster TX $399 (1 year warranty)
T3PA pedals $125
TH8A shifter $180
TM leather 28 GT wheel $200
TOTAL: $904
What are the G27 pedals like? Are they any better than the stock TX pedals? I know lots of people mod the brake pedal, but is it at least more progressive than the TX?
I don’t really see myself using the shifter much (most cars are paddle shifted anyhow) so the $60 for the Logitech shifter makes it a better value for me. Never understood why the TH8A has 7 forward gears either. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the current Corvette Stingray and 911 were the only two cars produced with manual 7-speed transmissions? Aren’t all other cars a 5-speed or 6-speed tranny?
LOL, I don’t think Darin has ever given a real opinion except when he left Fanatec and blasted Thomas’ wheel on a real level.
Well… I hope he’s honest. That would be awesome.
LOL
Honest? Good luck with that…
Has anyone seen this video on the G29/G920? Clearly indicates that Logitech has made changes to the wheel and that it is not just a G27 in a new casing.
Logitech has made changes to the pedals in the G29/G920. It has a rubber damper now to add more realistic brake pedal progression (see 3:56 in video link). The wheel uses a Hall effect sensor versus the optical sensor which became faulty in many G27 wheels (see 6:35 in the video link). I also like that Logitech offers a 2 year warranty. Thrustmaster only offers 1 year.
I’m going to wait on some reviews but I probably will pick one up. I just think the price would have been more reasonable if it was $400 including the shifter.
A new video review is out for the Logitech G920/G29: - YouTube
Thanks for the second video Skunkworks. I didn’t get to watch it until now.
It’s still interesting. When you get yours, please share your thoughts. Be as honest and brutal as you can when comparing it to the TX you currently have. Hopefully you will have both wheels in your possession so you can directly compare the FFB strength and fidelity, as well as the feel and any other details you might find worthy to be discussed.
Thanks ahead of time.
Looking at the diameter of the G27. According to wikipedia, it’s 270mm (approximately 11" in diameter.) It’s the same diameter as a Momo Mod. 27, so at least it’s right sized for an open wheel car (I think.) I am going to assume that the G920 has the same diameter, so that’s not a bad thing.
I am not against the wheel base it’s self. I can’t get around being stuck with the pedals. Maybe looking at G27 pedal modifications will change my mind.
The shifter is an unredeemable lost cause. Hopefully there is an adapter that will allow a TH8A or a CSS to work on the XB1.
Still not liking the asking price.
Wheel Stand Pro uploaded u boxing videos of the two new Logitech wheel and one video of it in use in Forza 5:
I seen the unpacking video earlier today. It’s a neat and tidy packaging job that Logi has done with the wheel. Probably to no surprise seeing that they had all types of practice with the wheel and packaging it. (A bad jab at it’s similarities to the G25 & G27)
I am probably going to go with the Logitech. Even after all the hate and discontent I kicked up about it’s price. In the end, it’s kind of par for the course when it comes to what you spend, for what you get. If the wheel proves to be as reliable as the G27/G25/DFGT then I am sold. To me the wheel being dependable, weighs a lot more than whether or not it’s full of the latest tech. On top of that, a rather cool mod (or two) to the pedals, will alleviate my contentions with the pedals. I am watching the reviews of the G29. If that wheel is solid, then I am as good as in, when it comes to the G920. I plan on getting rid of the CSR with the CSR pedals on Ebay for about $150.
I didn’t watch the Forza video yet, but I am about to. I can’t wait to have the wheel in front of me.
