Thrustmaster TX or Logitec G920??

Both are similarly priced. Which do you guys recommend and why?

Leaning towards the Logitec for now.

tx has a better ffb mechanism, g920 has better fit and finish. comes down to your preference of form vs function

I bought the G920 when FM6 came out and took it back. I find the TX to work quite a bit better

All things equal, definitely the TX (get the Leather if you can, though that will bump up the price).

TX is a solid unit. It also offers wheel upgrades like the TX Leather which is a very nice full size wheel. Thrusmaster Pedals and shifter are also very high quality, less toy like. I am biased though and have not used Logitech. I was considering it but after reading reviews decided on Thrustmaster - which can be hard mounted also.

YEAH… WHAT HE SAID! I have the TX and the add onFerrari
S99XX wheel it’s nice. The shifter is awesome for the TX to

I’ve owned both. Kept the TX Leather Edition. IMO the TX just feels better.

I can give you my perspective as a G920 owner. I think it is a great wheel, but it has some flaws. First, if you are going to use it with an XBox, it doesn’t have a jack to plug in your headset. That might not be an issue for you if you don’t want to communicate with people online. It was frustrating for me trying to chat with some buddies I was racing with: I had to plug in a second controller to drive the headset, and poke it every once in a while to keep it from going to sleep. I now primarily use it connected to my PC, so the headset issue isn’t as much of a problem. However, on PC it also feels a little unreliable. Sometimes the ffb doesn’t work in F7, and I have to reboot to get things working again. It has crashed a couple times. I had F7 crash when I unplugged my wheel. Also, if you buy the shifter, be warned, my first shifter didn’t last very long before it started malfunctioning. It would get confused between first and third gears (this was not in my head, it was very consistently broken). This made it unusable. I replaced the shifter and the second on has been reliable so far. On yeah, the brake pedal is really stiff on the G920, it is way too hard. Apparently you can fix it by opening up the unit, but I haven’t bothered yet.

This sounds like a bad review, but I actually like the wheel quite a lot. The wheel itself feels well made, and the layout of the buttons is good. It just could have been better. I keep holding out hope that Logitech will update the software/firmware for it, but I doubt that will ever happen at this point.

TX=belt driven vs Logitech=old school gear drive,TX is a smoother wheel,i have 2 of them.

Owned a G920 for two years.

If the G920 is substantially cheaper than the TX (which was the case when I bought), the G920 is good value as an entry point into having a FFB wheel.

If the price were similar, I would have gone for a TX.

Nothing inherently wrong with the G920, but overall the TX is a better wheel.

G920 no over heat issues…tx smoother slightly. G nice leather wheel good finish. Tx needs upgrade wheel to compare.

As for the stiff brake that is simply incorrect calibration. As the wheel calibrated you simple press the brake three times it then responds to lightest of touches and the resistance after a couple if inches of travel feels very realistic.

Both decent that said the threads on here show more issues with thrustmaster and FM7 than the Logitech, go on price I would say.

Been playing racing games since the days of Microprose and whilst ancient by many people’s standards it means I’ve been playing racing games since the days when having a calculator at school was high-tech. Experience counts and I’ve learned over the years to dig below the gloss and look at the internals before deciding which product to buy.

Had many, many consoles over the years but moved to PC for the higher framerates and (generally speaking) better graphics, plus the ability to play in 3 screens from 1 device
As a wheel user I started out with the good old Logitech DFGT (got mine 2nd hand), this used a geared drive with teeth set in line with the gears shaft, after 2 years of abuse from me in Grid 1 and Dirt 3 plus whatever from the previous owner, it clattered like 1960’s diesel bus because the teeth had begun to wear down introducing excessive play. It also used optical sensors with physical limits to their accuracy (like a roller ball mouse vs laser). It was a great wheel for entry level but the pedals were… well… Entry level would be the polite way to say it. PANTS tbh…

Moved on to the G27 which had great pedals, used helical gears which have the teeth set at an angle on the shaft, this gives a larger contact area, allows tighter tolerances, decreased noise and also reduced the amount of wear. It still used optical sensors but with better accuracy than the DFGT, this meant it was a much smoother wheel with more informative FFB, paradoxically though I felt the DFGT had stronger force-feedback but I got used to it.

When the T500 arrived in 2011 I began considering replacing the G27. There were a few reasons why and two that stopped me. The T500 uses a dual belt drive system rather than gears, even less noise and massively reduces the effects of wear over time. More importantly it uses Hall-effect sensors instead of optical increasing accuracy massively.
The only reasons I waited were, I didn’t like the paddles being mounted on the base and not the wheel rim and my G27 was still working just fine.

Ended up getting the T300RS in 2014 which used the same dual belt/Hall effect sensor design internally but, the paddles are mounted on the rim worse pedals than the G27 so I got the T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter when they arrived on the market. Massively improved FFB vs the G27, smooth as silk operation, incredible accuracy, half the noise level and no worries about wear over time…

Along came the G29 and G920 in 2015 complete with Hall sensors! but skeeeech STILL using the helical gears from the G27! even worse they removed logitech profiler which allowed to to set up specific profiles for different games. Makes me glad I got the T300…

All the T series Thrustmaster wheels (T300 TX TMX) use the same internals (with minor design alterations and a console specific ID chip) same as the G series from Logitech, same internals different button layout and console compatibility…

If I upgrade my wheel again it’ll be to a direct drive but I don’t see that happening for some time yet…

Not sure what the case was when you first evaluated the G920, but it certainly allows different profiles for games in software currently.

the tmx has a hybrid gear-belt system unlike the other 2, but it’s also priced much cheaper as an entry wheel. still better than the logitech stuff

Skip both! Fanatec CSL Elite is worth the extra cash! Miles better and will last longer.

Nope. I had 2 years of joy with the TX, then “upgraded” to the CSL due to CSP V3. It is stronger and quieter, yes, however the FFB is damped and not as direct as on the TX. Also the P1 rim for xbox is garbage. And using the Xbox Hub will cost alone more than the TX with the leather combo. The TX combo with T3PA pedals and leather rim is the best value you can get.

I own both and the Thrustmaster TX kills the Logitech G920, IMO. The G920 has a “gritty” feel to it due to its helical gear construction, whereas the TX has a smooth, seemless feel to it. I can feel the nuances of car handling through the TX much better.

Secondly, the earlier G920s (of which mine is) had a tendency to have a conductor break in the cable between the wheel and the base. I got to where I couldn’t turn left with my G920, and I had go in and patch the conductor myself. It was a lot of work and took me about 3 hours to perform, but I wound up with a more reliable unit as a result. The problem is it feels like there’s sand in the bearings instead of grease… it’s hard to explain, but the TX just seems to be so much more fluid in comparison.

I totally agree with this.
My G920 died on Sunday so I ordered the TX Leather edition. Love it so much smoother . The G920 the buttons all just crapped out , it had been getting a little glitchy so I wasn’t surprised when it finally gave up . Sad part is I only had it for 10 months.

Similarly priced? I got the G920 for $250 on Amazon. The TX goes for $150 more usually. On top of this the TX stock pedals ad not good and you have to pay to upgrade them to get a clutch. The Logitech shifter is $60. The TM shifter is $150. For the price you pay with upgrades you might as well get a Fanatec CSL over the TX.

I guess it depends on when you were in the market. I paid $400 for my G920, two months after its release and seven months later paid $250 for my Thrustmaster TX, at B&H Photo & Video. I’m glad to read that the G920 is now $250 at Amazon; I felt it was way overpriced at $400, but I was so desperate for an XBox One wheel at the time that I gave in.
