Thrustmaster VG TX Leather vs. Logitech G920

So I’ve been in the market for a racing wheel for some time now and I’m finally in a position to make a move (Have my own apartment now and a living room to myself!!!). I can’t seem to make up my mind on which one to get. That being said I have the opportunity of buying a pre owned VG TX leather and shifter with light use for around $350 or a brand new G920 on amazon for $250. My only concern with the Thrusmaster is reliability. From what I can tell the G920 is old tech but more durable.

I will mainly be playing Forza 7 but I will branch off in to Project Cars 2 and Asseto in the future.

Hope you guys can point me in the right direction! Any help is much appreciated.

The G920 is amazing for the Xbox version of FM7 and FH3 but don’t expect to get fast times without a lot of trial and error in settings. Can’t vouch for PC2 but PC1 isn’t any easier for me with the wheel.

I’d spend the extra $100 and get the TX assuming it’s in good shape. I’ve had the TX for almost a year and I haven’t had any issues. I upgraded from the TMX, which was great, but the TX is a beast compared to it. Especially for PC2 and Assetto. Those two games really show what the TX is capable of. Works well in Forza 7 but like mentioned above it takes time to dial it in to your preferences and get used to the wheel vs a controller. Once you do that then you realize how much fun the wheel is.

I own a TX. I love it and use it 4-5 nights a week for 30min-1hr. I’m hesitant to recommend a used one. I’ve read so many posts about failure. I bought mine in 2015 and it failed in April. Luckily I had read enough that I purchased a 3 year protection plan. It failed at 2yrs 10 mos. So I just got a new base as a replacement (and bought a 4yr plan this time). If you’re going to buy a TX, I’d say buy new and get some kind of protection plan. I think Amazon doesn’t even offer it anymore for the TX. I got mine at Walmart.com just to get the plan. If people are running their FFB settings too strong or are abusive to them, they can go. I’d be wary of getting a used base. The actual wheel and pedals (and stick) are pretty durable. But buy the base new or get the Logitech if you can’t handle the $. IMHO.

I own a G920 and it’s awesome!! However, it is my first wheel so I have nothing to compare it to. By all accounts the TX is the better wheel, but as suggested above, I wouldn’t advise getting a used one.

One other thing to consider is a decent wheel stand. I use this one https://www.nextlevelracing.com/products/next-level-racing-wheel-stand/ and it is rock solid. It sets up and folds away in 2 minutes.

Thanks for the help guys! Ended up getting the Thrustmaster wheel. The wheel was purchased in December from the original owner and it’s in great shape. Happy with my purchase. Now time to go crush those lap times!

Hey, how is the wheel? I just ordered mine.

I’ve had the G920/G29 and ended up return it after 2 weeks (I had a G25 previous to that and the G920 was weaker and very nearly as loud, and they are pretty damn loud wheels at times). I now own a Thrustmaster T300, same as the TX pretty much and can say it’s much much quieter & considerably more powerful, with better detail in the Force Feedback too.

To me, out of Logitech and Thrustmasters T300/TX, it’s worth paying the extra.

I’m sure the TX is a good wheel but I ended up getting the G920 because of the much better stock pedals. If you add the pro pedals and shifter to the TX you end up with a price thats twice what the G920 is and close to a Fanatec, which is a better buy. For me, I had to stay within budget, Have to also get the wife things.

TX stock pedals are weak plastic work, but more playable than Logitech totally awfull brake pedal…

If you get the TX Leather Edition then you get the T3PA pedals for free which are miles better than the stock TX ones (as well as a much better wheel).

The brake pedal on the G920 does take a bit of getting used to. Had a mate over the other weekend, had to tell him to really step on it on a number of corners before he got the idea.

I did a bunch of career races with my wheel yesterday & finally starting to get comfortable with it. Still suspect I’d be hands down faster on controller but it does feel good when you’re on the wheel & seeing some decent if not quick times.

TX is the way to go,belt drive is much better than gears, also more powerful motor!!

Get the Logitech and install the GT Eye brake spring mod.

Cheaper and more reliable than the cheap T Master wheels. And the pedals will be a lot better.

Later on, upgrade properly, to the Fanatec and flog the Logi on Ebay. Simples !
