A couple guys and myself had this idea last night while in a lobby together to help remove the problem of newbs wrecking people online.
A license system. Before anyone gets to go online you have to race around a track, in a predetermined car and set a time. Depending what you time is depends on what license you get, gold, silver or bronze. After that you can only race with people in the same license group, gold, silver or bronze.
Another positive of this would be that people who aren’t as good at forza, can actually have a chance at winning.
Obviously this could be overridden by parties, also, it wouldn’t be a one time only thing. You could take the driving test as many times as you’d like until you passed into the next tier.
This wouldn’t be able to be implemented without dlc or most likely until Forza 6 but what does everyone think?
Sounds like a great idea, can’t keep from getting wrecked out in EVERY single lobby, I honestly don’t play Forza that much anymore ONLY because of the wreckers and n00bs.
Yeah I’m not sure why that person posted the link. Is it required to post those ideas in the game features wish list? That’d be weird if forum moderators started getting mad at forum visitors for, you know, trying to talk about stuff. Weird.
I think it’s fair discussion to have and doesn’t belong being dumped in the one size fits all ‘wishlist’ thread. A decent online gaming experience isn’t something that should be on a wishlist, it’s expected as a given.
I’m sorry to say OP that T10 have MANY things they could’ve done and so far nothing has been done apart from a token (and it’s a joke in Fm5) bit of sticky grass. The problem is most punishments to trolls and wreckers can easily be maniupulated to affect innocent people. For every reasonable solution, there’s always a forum member who will come along and complain they’ll be living in some 24/7 victimhood if it’s implemented. Not that I think T10 listens to the community, but it’s more ammo to not do anything.
The small amount of people on here (ie approx 0.2% of all Fm5 users) are simply not important to T10, we’ll buy the game irrespective of our concerns. T10 is far more business savvy to going out there and keeping the trolls happy, ie moving the game further and further away from simulation racing, no penalities for online trollery etc. If people were seriously into ‘sim’ racing they’d be off to another game/platform. This is a car lovers game with some sim elements incorporated, it isn’t a hardcore dedicated racing simulation game. With a casual game comes a casual audience.
What would stop someone from sand-bagging to be able to race with people in lower “brackets” and get free wins all the time?
On the flip side, what happens when someone masters the test laps, but really can’t compete with racers in that bracket at other tracks?
It also still doesn’t help with one of the main problems in the online lobbies which is the trolls who would rather ruin other people’s experience than actually race with them.
Turn 10 used to have a “True Skill” system on the older Forza’s and this caused problems all the time. Players would lose on purpose just to get their true skill ranking lower so they wouldn’t get kicked from races all the time. Right now I think there needs to be a system put in place where if you are about to get lapped twice you automatically get put as a ghost or you get kicked from the race/lobby. The races online are only 3-5 laps anyways, so there is no reason to be that far behind unless you are trolling trying to wreck other drivers. Even then that probably wouldn’t work, especially with multi-class racing.
I honestly just don’t understand how people have fun intentionally wrecking other drivers.
Trolls arent good enough to race in higher brackets. Id like to see one troll keep up with me if he actually tried.
The reason they troll is because they suck at the game.
Obviously there would have to be some kind system to eliminate sand bagging. Example: if you race x number of races in silver class and your time is x faster than the predetermined pace than you get promoted to gold whether you like it or not.
Trolls are still gonna troll and its still not gonna be perfect but I think it would help level the playing field.
I think it’s a mistake to think like that. Trolling is not necessarily related to driving ability.
Players troll because they gain enjoyment from getting the attention of others. You can defeat the troll by not giving them the attention they crave. Ignore, report, block = troll defeated.
some troll because they are jerks, not because they aren’t fast. and all it takes is one troll to invite his friends list.
your example of sandbagging prevention has a seriouse flaw. people will start learning what times will get them stiffer competiton, and they’ll slow down to not hit that time. then they get passed by second place? yeah…unless they wreck them. remember sand baggers wouldn’t be the most ethical people to begin with.
rather than time based a good system would have to be contact with other cars based. eventually the wreckers are going to have a higher % of wrecks per lap, mile, etc that clean racers, a far higher %. lobby people together by wreck% and type of wreck. noobs “wreck” alot but alot of their wrecks are going off track or smacking a wall. they aren’t trying to crash into people, they just lack skill to keep the car under control. you pair those people together, they are eventually going to improve. they lack skill not ethics. the crashers you throw in lobbies together and they can play their little wrecking games.
there are tag lobbies designed for the people that like wrecking into eachother. i dont get it but they really enjoy it. some have competition to see who can knock who into the air the highest. thats fine. then there are trolls who wont go to the tag lobbies because their enjoyment comes from destroying other people enjoyment. they want to control other people, its a power trip. and those people need to be removed from the game. some of the trolls wreck people just to prove they can, its not because they aren’t fast, its because beating you cleanly isn’t going to upset you. its a gang banger mentality. they want to prove they are above you and above the rules, that they are a god and must be feared and respected.
they need to be restricted to playing off line. if you throw those types in a room together its going to end up in meeting somewhere for a real life fight. and since microsoft has more money than both of the chumps and their gangs put together who do you think is gonna get sued? and even a racing game is going to get accused of causeing real life violence by people not smart enough to realize violent people cause violence. there was violence before videogames were ever invented. hitler never played a videogame. if he had ww2 would be blamed on videogames when it is totally irrelivant in real life.
If the trolls can’t keep up (who can in a Jeep SRT8?), then they stop, turn around, and go in reverse until they catch up with the group, roll forward slowly just enough to undo the ghost mechanism, and then wreck everyone a 2nd/3rd/4th/etc time. I think if you look a the leaderboards and you group up the top 500-1000, then the next 5,000, and then the next 15,000, you’ll end up getting players who are on a much more level playing field and subsequently we will have much CLOSER races, increasing car proximity and hopefully forcing casual players to improve their skills of door-to-door driving. The slow wreckers can be in a lobby with all of them, and the leaderboard guys can run fast and clean and compete all the more amongst themselves.
Honestly I jump into lobbies and am usually either the fastest or 2nd fastest, and the rest of the lobby is WAY back there. If I could race with a bunch of very equal people or people slightly better than me, that’d make the entire lobby bumper to bumper and the racing would be heart pumping and exciting!!
Seriously, this is a genius idea that I think Gran Turismo has been using for a while now. Separate the masses by skill. We do it in sports (jv, varsity, state, national, regional, wold champion/olympics), we do it in chess (chess ratings), we do it in education (regular, honors, fastrack, AP, IB, college, post grad, post doc)… why aren’t we doing it in Forza again?!
hotlapping is not the same as racing. some good hotlappers just memorize the timing of the track, they cant drive in traffic because it throws the timing off. they dont think their way around the track, they remember it. its like a blind guy walking around their own house. some you wouldn’t even know they are blind until something is out of place. putting some hotlappers in traffic is like rearranging a blind mans furniture. you could groop them together with collisions off but not in the lobbies we have now.
you have to use the same type of racing that is going to be done in the lobby to sort the players. some drifters cant race, some racers cant drift and mixing the two styles just ruins it for all. sort them by win% and wreck% for the type of racing in the lobby.
A bit of truth to that. Hotlappers aren’t the issue. It’s the no aero nit wits who believe if they can blow your doors off in a straight you will lose. After the straight there off the track then rush back on hitting on coming traffic and causing pile ups. Wreckers are part off the experience, you just have to deal with it. There a minority anyway.
FM5 is the special Olympics of Forza. You get a gold for a top 3 finish, a silver for top 6. It’s laughable at how many more people want to put there chest out, and act like there competitive in a game that is built to reward mediocrity. This game can’t be taken seriously as a racer. Licensing test like in GT were offline play only so it wouldn’t change online at all.
Expecting first place to be the only respectable finish, second and third suck, and everyone below that should quit because they’re horrible is a primitive and simpleton perspective. If you watch the Daytona 500 and meet the fourth-place finisher after the race, are you going to tell him he is incompetent and should quit because fourth is mediocre? What about the third-place finisher at Monaco? Indy 500? Good drivers can’t always finish in first or even near the top. F1 awards points to almost half the field and I’m wanting to say NASCAR gives points to all finishers, not just the top few. Finishing high up the field is still a respectable accomplishment. It’s just in outdated video game mindsets that only first is good and anything else is mediocre.
Infer much? I said none of that. Big difference between Forza and any professional series of racing. Using your logic almost everyone who plays Forza wouldn’t be eligible to do so. If people could do what they do in Forza and get away with it how serious would you take that series? First gold, second sliver, third bronze. That’s how it used to be in forza. They don’t award points like in rl and there is no cup we are chasing. When T10 does that I’ll be ignorant until then you wear the tiara lovely.
