License system for racing online

by the way fm1 had what you are talking about. they picked the car and the track for you. the car you needed was given to you and you had to win the race in that car before you could go on to the next race. and you couldn’t buy the upper class cars until you unlocked a certian driver level so lower level drivers couldn’t get into upper class events. some cars you couldn’t buy until after you had won them. and forza started off with tutorials, it taught you how to race. there was still the turn 1 pile ups. usually caused by “elite drivers” in a skyline trying to avoid the wrecking by trying to pass everybody before the wreck in turn 1. sometimes fixing things only makes them worse. people are going to be the same people under any set of rules.

I dont know whats with the few attacks but Im not complaining about trolls at all.
If anything, in my opinion, the best part of this idea is that it would allow people who aren’t as good at Forza to have a chance at winning online.

So you would have 3 tiers. Example: If you did a time of infinity to 2:45, you would race with tier 3 or “bronze” license people. If you did a time of 2:45 to 2:35, you would race with tier 2 people or “silver” license people. If you did a lap of 2:35 or better than you would race with tier 1 or “gold” license people.

Like I said, it has flaws and its not perfect but I think it would help.

This is done in a sense in the races that take place at TORA ad VM. If you’re that into racing those would be the places to avoid the trolls and find people of similar skill level. T10 has been dumbing the franchise down since FM3 with no end in sight. The odds of them changing course doesn’t bode well.

Well then lets b**** and scream until they hear us. Thats what this forum is for isnt it?
We all know the xbox reporting system is kind of a joke. Theres no way to get rid of trolls but at least we can make it harder for them.

leveling the playing field is what im most interested in though. I dont mean this to sound like cocky but im kinda sick of blowing everyones doors off unless im playing with my friends, I want everyone to have a chance at winning but I want it to be challenging for me

Awesome maybe T10 will pay everybody’s bills and raise there kids so they can give you a challenge. Alot of circumstances you’re not taking into consideration. As I pointed out head over to Tora or VM and sign up. You’ll find what you’re looking for there. One of the best thing’s about Forza is the non T10 groups who provide support to enthusiast such as yourself.

whats with the attitude? Can we keep this civilized please? Your attacks are not needed or welcome.

True skill needs to return, it’s not as flawed as the above poster points out. Yeah you may get kick from some lobbies, but why would you want to race with people that want to kick you anyway. Plus you can’t kick someone who just joins a lobby now. It needs to return, who doesn’t enjoy a good multiplayer ranking.

True Skill was very flawed. Not just from a getting kicked from the lobbies angle either. There was just a lot that needed to be changed with that system. I’m glad it’s gone, and it doesn’t need to return anytime soon.

Of course it needs to be implemented better, it needs to match you up correctly. If it does it’s intended job, you shouldn’t be kicked as much.

Plus as I stated before, you can’t get kicked before your first race now, you need to atleast do a race in the lobby before being able to be kicked.

Like Wormburner said, they would need to keep it hidden. Even if you can’t get kicked right when you join a lobby, how annoying would it be to run a race, then get kicked because of your TS ranking, join another lobby, run a race and get booted cause of your TS ranking. I mean just because you can run 1 race, doesn’t make it any better than before.

I personally think multiplayer rankings are a waste of time. Often times they reward solely based on time played, rather than skill. Ah well, we each have our own opinions.

True Skill wouldn’t be so bad as long as we couldn’t see it. Think about how you are sorted into lobbies of people along the same level. I’ve noticed I don’t see very many crashers myself but have noticed others do.

I agree though, it was awful as something visible. Getting kicked from a lobby before you even race. I’d have to go to drag races about once every week or two and get dnf’d every heat to drop my rank just to get in lobbies.

That’s a very good point. If the game could somehow keep track of True Skill without letting the players know what their rank is, it could solve a lot of kicking problems. Also if nobody outside of the Turn 10 servers knew what their true skill ranking was, it would prevent players from purposefully losing to lower their ranking.

This past weekend I tried to do some online racing and kept getting put in lobbies with trolls - the ones who drive just fast enough to make it possible to collide with them. It was one of those deals where I’d either get wrecked by them, or the people I was racing with got wrecked by them and it just ruined the racing. I only got in about 2 races out of close to 20 races that were with all clean racers. I honestly can’t wait til more of my friends get an Xbox One so we can do some private lobbies, but alas that won’t be for a little while.

The easy fix route for T10 to fix this would be to make non-collision lobbies (not ghost, that’s just horrible). It wouldn’t fix the issue for the players that want collisions, not wrecking, but I said easy fix.

On a different note, they could implement a Racing License system for online (I would like to see it offline too, not meaning to WL), and tinker with it. Add a difference between wrecking and rubbing, and use a system like R* with GTAV. There system is somewhat bad, but T10 could do it better. The more you deliberately wreck offline and online would put you into different tier lobbies.

I don’t believe lap times would fix the issue due to sandbagging, so I’m throwing that out of the window.

All I’m saying is, put in an easy fix for now. Make non-collision lobbies and that will put a well placed bandage on it for FM5.

What is the difference between a “non-collision lobby” and a “ghosted lobby”?

I use cockpit view and need to see my car. There for with collisions off, I can see my car as it were solid and all other cars the same. Only until you get close enough do the opponents cars look transparent.

With ghosts, all cars are transparent all the time. Makes it a pain for people like me who need to see a solid car.

I do think that there should be some type of requirement before moving up in class…you have to have so many D class, then C class and so on…a lot of the problem are new people that jump straight into A or S class and they can’t control the car or understand tuning.

As for what Loco said…if you truly want to avoid the noobish lobbies definitely need to go try Virtual Motorsports, TORA or 2old2play has a racing faction 2old4forza…they have a lot of cool series and pretty much something going on all the time. No trash lobbies for sure.

I liked the unlockable element that f2 and f3 had it meant you had to put up with slower cars until you knew the Curtis and could handle them.tying this into a license system would work well in educating novices but not frustrating experienced racers.

This title collects enough metrics and telemetry to properly rate a player and identify sand bagging. I work in computer gaming, specifically cheating, fraud and security. We write code all the time that has to separate good players from cheaters and it’s on systems with far less natural metrics than this. The company I work for uses player grading to try to make match making more fun for players in MMO play so they are playing against people with similar skill.

Personally I think this is a great idea and achievable by the game designers and builders if they want to do it.

I think he is referring to how you don’t have to finish 1st to get gold…which is actually kind of silly. Sure finishing 2nd is better than 3rd and 3rd better than 4th and there is nothing really wrong with that…but what he is referring to is the game is set up to reward just finishing in the Gold…which doesn’t necessarily mean much of anything I guess. And I’m pretty sure he didn’t mention anything about winning only.

Matt, no one has done anything wrong from what I see. From the ToS

IMO, I see nothing wrong. Please don’t try to over police your own thread, sometimes that escalates situations quickly. No one likes the mods for telling someone to keep it in the guidelines of the forum, they darn sure aren’t going to like a user doing so.
