When I try to launch FH5 it crashes when loading, crashing at the playground games splash screen.
But then when I try to launch as administrator, it loads up fine, apart from the fact that my controller is no longer connected, and the same issue with my steering wheel.
I’ve tried verifying game files (I got FH5 through steam), and even deleting and re-installing the files completely, and still not working.
Hey man, I’m having the same problem, I’ve tried everything (even launching Steam as admin and using DS4 Windows), but FH5 won’t detect my DS4 controller. I’m replying so this thread maybe gets a bit more engagement, sorry I don’t have an answer.
All, make sure you click Vote on the topic in addition to replying so we can gauge how widespread the issue is (There is only 1 vote on the topic as I post this).
I’VE FIXED IT!!!
Probably should’ve tried this earlier, but I whitelisted both the file and the exe in my anti-virus software (bitdefender), then I tried running the compatibility tester on the FH5 exe, and it suggested to launch it with compatibly mode for Windows 8, so I try it out and it works!!
I did some quick testing, and it turns out the whitelisting only enables the game to run, but controller won’t detect unless I run it with compatibility mode on.
Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
Update: It doesn’t work when I launch it through steam, it only works when launching directly from the exe ,or a normal windows shortcut to the ForzaHorizon5.exe rather than the steam shortcut/launcher.
Anyway possible you could explain or show me how to do that please if possible???
Whitelisting from your anti-virus software is different from one program to the next, so probably best to do a quick google or look on their support page for how to whitelist a program with your specific software, but I can give a explanation to how to turn on compatibility mode:
- So first you go to the FH5 folder (can be found by going to it on steam, then click the cog, and hover over manage on the drop down menu, then click browse local files).
- Then once you have found the forzahorizon5.exe in the Forzahorizon5 folder, right click it, then click properties.
- In the properties menu, click the compatibility tab, then tick the box that says “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and make sure the drop down menu says windows 8, then click “Apply”.
Hopefully you should now be able to launch FH5 direct from the exe or from a windows shortcut without the above issues.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for trying but yeah no for some reason it still is not working
@Joao09159282 and @Scythe_YT1854 does this issue still persist after recent updates?
Hello there, yes it does, I can’t yet launch the game through steam… And now the game seems not to detect my controller at all (happened before but just kinda fixed itself).
Thank you for the suggestion, but it doesn’t seem to work. (for me at least)
Nope turning off steam input doesn’t help. Game still crashes when launched through steam (does still work when launched directly with the .exe though), and now with the latest update/season my controller doesn’t work at all. Not through steam, not through just windows, and not even through DS4 Windows, neither with or without steam input off. But my Logitech G29 is being detected. Weird that it’s only Xbox inputs that aren’t working.
Mine is connected using bluetooth, and it’s a PS4 V2 (PS4 Slim) controller. I don’t have any issues in other games (e.g. rocket league), it seems to just be FH5 annoyingly.
Unfortunately still not working after trying that. Neither steam input alone(which is what I normally use), nor steam input off but using DS4 windows with hide controller enabled, neither is detected by FH5. Steam recognises the input from my PS4 controller natively with steam input, and with DS4 windows thinking it’s an xbox controller (I tested it using steam’s inbuilt controller tester), but Forza is just like, nope.
Hi. After of all, thank you all for all the various insight. Wouldnt have figured it out without the information provided by you guys.
Issue:
Fh5 (on steam), with all its bugs, was playable (in my case) only if it gets launched as an administrator and with the full-screen optimization turned off. But once these modifications are made, the game no longer supports controllers.
The Fix: ( which worked for me)
-
Find the location where FH5 folder is located.
(Manage → Browse local files) -
On the fh5 application (.exe) file, open “properties” and under “compatibility”, make sure "disable full-screen optimization " and “run this program as admin” are tuned on. Click on “Apply” , then “ok”.
-
Find the root folder of steam
( usually: program files (x86) → Steam) -
Here, find application file of steam. (Steam.exe). Open
“properties” and under “compatibility”, make sure “run this program as admin” is tuned on. Click on “Apply” , then “ok”. -
Restart the computer. Now you can launch Fh5 via steam. And controller support would ideally be retained.
Note:
-
You ideally dont have to change the compatibility mode for any of these applications. Untick it if enabled.
-
You might get a steam notification regarding compatibility mode change when ever you launch steam. You could ignore it. But remember, now that steam has admin access, make careful with the applications you execute via steam. Always download from a reliable publisher.
-
If in case, you dont want steam to run as admin. You could disable that in the properties window of steam.exe. Especially while playing other games that arent as janky as FH5. And when ever you do play FH5, make sure to revert admin status to steam.
Also, this fix will only work if your controller worked fine at one point of time, and then during some graphic card/ game update, the game turned buggy. And now you are forced to run FH5 in admin mode.
If you haven’t set up your third party controller on steam before. First do that. There are many tutorials available online.
I got it working again!
Thanks, those tips really helped. I have FH5 launching as admin with “disable full-screen optimizations” ticked, as well as compatibility mode for windows 8. It’s now working launching it through steam with steam controller input, with steam not launching as admin, only FH5 launches as admin.
Thanks for the help.
Hopefully this thread can help anyone with similar issues.
