Should there be an automatic group balance system to make sure all the groups are evenly populated?

I’ve been trying to do the BMW series but it seems that half of the races are entirely just the P class cars which has been disappointing.

Even the races where I’m going up against 4+ ppl in my group, there’s always another group that has 1-2 people. I just want to know what the community thinks about this. Thanks for participating in the poll.

I think they need to do a max of 3 groups, and also have an auto balance that makes it so no group can have more then two times as many drivers as any other. Also make it so when you join, you select your preferred group and it will try to match as best as it can.

I’m one of the people that only runs C & B in ABCS, so am directly affected by the top-heavy nature of the current lobby. Forcing classes would directly stop me from joining.

Maybe an even distribution of cars across groups shouldn’t be forced in multi-class, but instead perhaps incentivized, possibly with something like much bigger payouts/bonuses for drivers in smaller groups.

Then everyone can race what they want (even if it pays less), but they also have some compelling motivation ($$$) to even out the field.

Or maybe even something like individualized payouts weighted by how frequently a player races in the same group compared to how (in)frequently they race in other groups - the more races a player repeatedly enters/completes in the same group, the more their payouts shrink… giving each player an incentive to mix things up for bigger payouts.

Or maybe a big Challenge Hub reward for a goal like “finish X# of multi-class races in cars from every group.”

I find that races simply aren’t interesting when there’s fewer (relevant) opponents. In single class racing I will often back out of races if they’re going to start with fewer than 10 players.

When you have more opponents in a race/class, you have a higher chance of finding a rival who will give you a close battle, or if you’re lucky 2 or 3 where you can have a proper multi car battle. When you don’t have this, there’s a greater chance of races ending up with you hotlapping in no man’s land, too far ahead/behind anyone else with a lower chance of meeting an evenly-matched opponent.

Multiclass, particularly when there’s 3/4 classes, exaggerates this.

Even with only 2 classes, I feel you need a full grid of over 20 cars for it to be viable.

On top of that I’m not a fan of the way this game treats timed races, as the finish line functionally doesn’t exist due to how races end.

The above issues are why I currently have zero interest in Multiclass in this game. I stick to single class/spec racing where most of the previously stated issues are resolved.

Three classes would be ideal.

In an ideal world, coding in some kind of offer based on the lobby’s active class distribution would be nice. Like, let’s say there’s 10m left prior to race start, and the game offers a pop-up offering a class switch bonus to the first person willing to claim the move. Make the offer increase in value as practice winds down.

I don’t think these particular races need 10+ opponents in each class, but I would prefer to see more lobbies where there’s at least 5-6 individuals in the lower classes.

In my experience, track selection has heavily biased class distribution. I’d say 80% of these races are stacked with S-Class players, but on tighter tracks like Brands, I see much more participation in B.

Think they should drop C from the mix. Or S.

Thanks for feedback.

I acknowledge that the auto balance idea would turn some people off. Its just i dont think that downside outweighs the benefits of evening the groups a little more consistently.

One thing I’ve noticed while waiting in a group with 2-3 ppl is that people will join, but then leave once the time gets low which is why i think so many ppl are going to one group.

My theory is that in any given race where 90% start the race in one group, there are some who would have rather raced against people in a different group, but gave up that endeavor when it seemed like they’d only be up against 2-3 people.

Thats why i think an ideal implementation of a forced group autobalance would be when you are joining in the featured multiplayer menu, have it simply ask what your preferred 1 or 2 groups are, and then match make based off of that. Have a hard limit of keeping no more than a 2:1 ratio of groups so the chances of you not getting in a group you like are much smaller versus forcing exactly even group sizes.

If done with the right balance then the point raised by people like @CPSDIABLO likely wouldnt have to be worried about, at least thats what the goal should be, because i do agree with him.

At least we can all mostly agree that 4 groups is way too many.

I would like a 32 car grid in Forza one day. If not this game in a future update then definitely the next version.

I dont think the amount of groups is really the problem, its peoples preferences for a particular group thats the issue. Thats not to say preferences shouldnt count or are a problem, but in the long run thats kind of the issue. If there was a cap, im sure most would rather quit and find a new lobby rather than race in another category.

Even if there was a choice before matchmaking for preference, people would likely do the same thing, quit until they get what they want. I think anything that could be perceived as being forced wont go over well, this would have only worked if it started out with some sort of structure.

Incentives could work, but im not sure credits are that enticing unless it was a large amount. But it would have to be large enough to counteract what a person would normally win in the same amount of races in their preferred group. I dont think turn 10 would go this route.

So the inventive would need to be something more, like a special livery or driver suit. But same thing, are these actually enticing enough for people to race cars they dont particularly want to and are turn 10 willing to continually make new content for this one type of series.

Perhaps doing something to take away peoples focus off themselves, like racing as a team could maybe work. If the goal is to help out the team as opposed to just themselves, maybe they wouldnt necessarily care what particular class theyre driving in, just as long as the team wins. Scoring could be done by points and maybe make it a larger payout than normal with bonuses for finishing 1st in class.

Its a hard nut to crack. But without some sort of structure it makes it even harder. I dont know how popular this lobby is and ultimately thats whats going to matter if changes are going to be made.

Yes, 4 car groups are too much for a 24-place grid. In real-world multiclass racing, like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, grids often feature around 60 cars divided into 3 to 4 classes, ensuring 15-20 cars per class to create meaningful competition. With only 24 cars, dividing them into 4 groups would result in just 6 cars per group, which is insufficient for proper battles.

In Forza Motorsport, there is no restriction on the number of cars per group, meaning one group could have 10 cars while others might only have 2 or 4. This imbalance can lead to a lack of interest in the smaller groups, as they offer fewer competitive opportunities. At most, 3 groups are manageable, but increasing the grid size and balancing car distribution would be crucial for a better multiclass experience.

let’s not add role queue into a racing game haha.

Completely off topic, was watching a vid by SCDR racing on YT and recognized your name on the grid. Ha!

What is roll queue?

roll queue is a MOBA thing where players are only matched based on what they pick, and they must wait for matchmaking to place them in a game with space for their class.
