[INVESTIGATING] Sony Dualshock 4 not working in Forza 7

Hi,

I just bought the game and im having the same problem with the PS$ controller DS4. I have downloaded the ImputMapper program to get it to work on PC and it does very well for other games but not for Forza 7.
When im in the Main Menu of the game it gets very, very glitchy, switching from Keyboard to the controller. Eventually it stops working, both the controller and the Keyboard. I really want to play with the controller.
Has anyone found a way to make the controller work?
I dont want to have to buy an X-Box controller just for this game.

Yeah I wanted a follow up on this issue as I can’t get my PS4 controller to work without any third party software like inputmapper or DS4. Turning these on have been a problem for various issues and linking the game to steam doesn’t even recognize the controller. Exiting steam (which i emulate my PS4 to all steam games that don’t natively support it) isn’t working either. And wanted a follow up specifically for the article mentioned above seeing as this is still marked as under investigation. Are there any updates on this topic?

You don’t want to use that controller really. Unlike GT Sport with the dual shock, Forza games have trigger feedback on Xbox Controller which you really need to do well especially if you want to turn all assists off. You can feel how much you are braking and throttling and feel when you are about to lose it and adjust. Just no way to do this on a dual shock. Regualr Xbox controller is way better and really not that expensive and save you a ton of trouble. Moan all you want about what I am saying but it is what it is.

I appreciate the input on the subject still it isn’t all that helpful seeing as this is the only controller I have and I am not really willing to let go 80€ on an xbox controller specifically to play this game (seeing as I always disliked the controller, especially the dpad). Other than that your comment doesn’t really help that much at all sorry to say, don’t really care how epic the controller might be. It’s a very specific thing i couldn’t care less about, and the moment you start treating players differently just because they don’t and won’t adhere to your views doesn’t really help the community, instead it creates a very elitist and segregated one.

I am going to continue bumping this thread until I head back from anyone from T10

Having to sort this issue on my own without having to spend more money on a new controller has proven to cause more harm than good and ended up having to fix more problems in the long run. With so many patches being released since launch how come this issue hasn’t been fixed yet? Especially considering that, apparently, the Forza 7 Demo worked well with the controller.

Wow, this still isn’t fixed?? Today I decided to see if this issue was ever fixed and found that this old thread was recently bumped. It sucks that this was never fixed. I know people love the Xbox controller, but some people prefer the DS4 for racing like me. I don’t like the Xbox controller for racing. I don’t like where the left thumb stick is. It’s more natural in the DS4/Playstation configuration for me and little details like this make all the difference especially when fine motor control is needed for a precision racing game. I probably would’ve bought the game today if they fixed the DS4 support and started playing Forza 7 again, but it looks like it still isn’t fixed… I guess I’ll just continue to save my money…

btw… you wanted a follow up. No one ever contacted me again after I created this thread. Nitroglitter stopped contacting me shortly after his post in this thread. Initially, it seemed like he would do what he could to get this pushed to the devs, but progress stopped shortly after.

Hey man thanks for replying to this. Honestly I don’t feel like letting this die. Having to use DS4 tool is a pain in the arse and has created a few problems with my pc, namely mouse lag and beeping issue that was common a few years ago with XInput, something that seems is no longer installed until I have to install it to get DS4 to work.

Frankly the xbox controller is the layout I hate the most. Not just layout but also design wise, the ergonomics don’t sit well.

Having said that it would be good if the devs followed up on what was said, especially with the controlling having worked well with the Demo… at one point at least from what I was able to read,

Why don’t the mods just remove [INVESTIGATING] from the title, because let’s face it, no one is going to do anything to fix this problem. This problem is NOT and was NEVER being investigated. However, nice sales pitch Turn 10 by advertising that this game is compatible with the Dualshock 4 even though it was a lie!

This thread is 9 months old so just remove [INVESTIGATING] from the title already…

At this point might as well, and go ahead and lock the thread while you’re at it, otherwise I’m going to continue bumping this (sorry for the spam on the inbox RoqueSteward :\ )

Naw, you’re cool brother. Keep bumping it until they lock the thread or whatever. I can’t believe it still says [INVESTIGATING] on the title though. As if they were really going to do something about it…

I guess why I’m so upset is that I really wanted to play Forza 7 with the Dual Shock 4 on the PC as promised. I’ve always hated the Xbox controller. I’m sorry Microsoft, but Sony has the better designed controller. Problem is I don’t like the PS4 console though. So here I am, stuck with a DS4 that I bought specifically for this game and it never worked as promised. Microsoft was cool though and gave me a refund after owning the game for several weeks, but they did say at one time they were looking into the problem and they would contact me back but never did too. It would’ve been cool to come back after all these months to see that the DS4 issue was fixed. I bet I would’ve purchased the game again right there, but seeing it’s still not fixed, I’m just going to save my money.

Just buy an Xbox controller that actually has trigger feedback which yes you need. You are right they care less about a PS4 controller. When the battery gets low and I forget to change it, first thing you lose in the trigger feedback and it is horrible without it. Generally I will do worse at that point so you aren’t helping yourself by using the dualshock. Stay away from the Elite controller. Forza breaks them. Funny thing is I got faster when I stopped using it.

let me try this one more god damn time

WE. DON’T. CARE. ABOUT. THE. XBOX. CONTROLLER.

We get it man, it’s the best controller in the history of controllers, you’re selling this harder than microsoft, we get it you’re endorsed or just a salesman, we still don’t care. If you can’t get this through your head, don’t post on a thread because it has nothing to do with the ps4 controller, which newflash i’m not gonna change. Been using it since launch and it’s perfect. We just don’t care.

Actually you know what? you can keep commenting about it, might as well have more people bumping the thread.

Don’t know what’s happening with my car? Well i’m not blind you know… If I want the epitome of the experience I wouldn’t buy that controller, i’d rather buy a steering wheel.
Oh man you use the dualshock? feelsbadman, must suck for you to have to stoop so low. In fact why are you even playing GTSport if it isn’t compatible with the almighty xbone controller?

As I said with a PS4 controller you won’t know what is happening with your car without the trigger feedback. You have to understand how important that element to the game is. You won’t know when your brakes are locking up or you are losing grip. Look I want to play GT Sport with the Xbox controller but I can’t so I use the dualshock cause I have to.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do whether you like it or not. That’s life buddy. You don’t care about feedback than I feel sorry for you and the trouble you are going to have for being stubborn about a controller. Ridiculous. Don’t drop that Dualshock they break super easy. Way easier the the mighty Xbox Controller lol. Once it feel on the floor from like 2 feet and the trigger just fell off.

Oh I sorted it out myself. I’m just protesting against the devs for false advertisement. Best for them to sort their mess out other than the players.

The only thing ridiculous is your continuous endorsement of a controller nobody cares about in this thread.

If feedback is so important I’m surprised you’re not playing in a full VR set with a pneumatic chair and steering wheel… oh you’re not made of money? Well neither are we to afford a controller specifically to play this game.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and play with the tools you have, if the devs [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D], we have to sort it out as usual. As far as other forza games go, won’t support a team that won’t support their players and falsely advertise their product. Until then, I’m gonna bump this as many times as I can.

also dropping the controller? LOL butterfingers much? seems like someone got salty and threw the controller. They don’t break that easily unless you got a cheap knock-off which would explain a lot. And yeah, the mighty xbox controller, i’ll get one if I ever go to war, I’ll use it as a helmet piece or just throw it at someone, that thing is like a tank… which i do not need to play games. Also ergonomically speaking I’ve seen potatoes with better ergonomics…

I’m not endorsing anything just telling you what works best. I’m not going to not play GT Sport cause I like one controller over another. Yea it sucks no feedback in GT Sport but it makes loud screeching sounds immediately when you hit the brakes too hard with abs off. Forza doesn’t let you know as well and relies on the feedback its giving you. It took me much longer in GT Sport to get used to the braking than in Forza due to lack of feedback. Why the PS4 Dualshock does not have trigger feedback is baffling at this point.

Just a heads-up to a possible cause of this issue:

My older Sony DualShock4 controller which was Version 1 worked flawlessly in FM7 on PC connected either wirelessly or trough USB cable.

Recently, I bought V2 of DS4 and is not being recognised in FM7 anymore, in either of the connection methods.

In case someone is unsure which version of DS4 they have - V2 has lightbar on the touchpad and V1 does not:

I would have never thought this to be the issue but you’re absolutely right. Plugging in my V1 PS4 controller actually worked fine. Game recognised the controller without need for any third party software. Thanks for this man! So the game does recognise the controller, just not the most recent version of it for some reason. Looks like the community did more investigating than the devs did through the lifespan of this thread. Pity the V2 doesn’t work but alas, at least it’s something.
