Inconsistent AI Difficult

I don’t think my example is anything unreasonable, 15-20 seconds slower than what’s possible over just a few miles is a huge difference and often wouldn’t be near a properly good Rivals time at all even for a weak car.

I can’t possibly agree with what you said about an AI running away on a regular basis either simply because of my own first hand experiences, you’ve seen yourself I used to post my Trial races every week in the season thread when I did it properly, with a proper car I lost to an AI….once, and I could easily default to deeming that must have been a runaway because I drove well with a strong car + tune for 2 and a half laps of Estadio that I’d tested on there beforehand and only ended up right behind it at the finish.

What I’d be doing then though is discarding the fact I spent the opening half a lap faffing about with passing a clearly slower teammate too cautiously, I’m not exaggerating when I say that throughout my whole time with the game I’ve never had an AI in a Trial that I couldn’t possibly catch if I’ve had a proper car/tune and got the driving side right which I didn’t do there, occasionally I’ve had them in my 701PI attempts but there’s no basis for any complaints when I’ve made the choice to be 90 odd PI below them, their inconsistency is actually the only reason it’s even possible for me to do those, if they were consistent and went a pace befitting of the difficulty level the game claims they’re at in the Trial then a PI deficit as big as that wouldn’t be possible to make up.

And on the flipside barely a week goes by when I don’t see at least one AI running away from the entire field. I understand that I run stock but there are other drivers on my team with upgraded cars, who drive a clean race and by all appearances have at least some basic driving competence, and they can’t get close to said AI either. Based on all the evidence I’m of the firm opinion that the PI level displayed by AI cars doesn’t have any basis in reality, because their own speed can vary drastically throughout a race due to what goes on around them. Case in point: if a human driver does manage to track down and catch one of those runaway AI, they magically start driving significantly more slowly, and it’s very likely that other human teammates will now be able to catch up and pass them despite having no chance of doing so beforehand. I’ve seen this directly more times than I can count.
