[Balance] AI unfair cornering, traction, speed

AI speed seems barely affected by smashing through obstacles or bodies of water.

Doing the summer B class off-road championship (on Pro) it’s really noticeable. These things barely have power enough to pull up hills so plowing through walls and such along the route really hurts the speed; but the AI just breeze on through like there’s nothing there.

Yes, the AI is unfair and doesn’t make a mistake.

I can live with them driving their “perfect” lines at “perfect” speeds as they’re still beatable by out-breaking/cornering, but this is too much. It’s faster to keep them in front to clear the way and try overtake close to the finish of the race. smh

Man, I should give you my copy, they’re going so fast that they forget to turn sometimes and fly off the course or into a tree/house!

Agreed, the AI’s cheating on the cross country races is extremely annoying and makes the effective difficulty much higher than expected.

It’s so dumb, badly needs fixing.

I’m winning road races on Pro, but then there’s some dirt and CC races that I can barely win on Expert and only after many tries or dirty racing. The AI aren’t slowed by water at all which means on the courses where you spend a while in a river or the sea, they completely blitz you

True and true.

I picked up on it real quick. That needs to be patched.

Seems like they care not about the heavy rain of autumn too. Noticed I’m having to scrub a little more speed to maintain traction on corners while they stick just like usual. RIP advantage.
Sort of makes me want to compare some lap times between seasons…

EDIT: Looks like I don’t need to:

Could you make some footage of that specific dirt race where this has happened to you?

What I have noticed about the AI is their strange “magnet” physics. Allows them to handle on dirt as if they were driving casually on asphalt, this makes them extremely tough on dirt courses. I’ll have to record the anomalies where my friend and I are racing next to one and the physics in our cars go haywire and start jerking back and forth across the road, or completely flung off course.

Pretty sure they run full assists whilst also “railing” the driving line (which is fair enough I guess) so their handling wont be directly comparable to a lot of us, but these extra bonuses they get like negligble effects by weather and environment, on-top of their already boosted accel/speeds; make higher difficulties a chore sometimes. Others it’s not even a challenge?! I like to beat a challenge - not a cheat!

Now, I could understand if the AI drivers were using different vehicles but they frequently use the same ones as the player. But I’m frequently noticing that they can take corners at much higher speeds than my own car without spinning out of control. Do they get some special bonuses to car handling that isn’t available to players?

They do run full assists. They’ve always done that in Forza, including Motorsport. In Horizon they even have damage off, even if yours is on. In Forza Motorsport 5 and maybe 6 they had damage off, even if yours is on. I think FM7 is the first time on Xbox One that Drivatars take damage if damage is turned on. Cone to think of it, I do recall AI taking damage in Forza Motorsport last-gen, so they lost it this gen except in FM7.

I am so glad someone else has noticed this… I’m tearing out what little hair I have left because of this. It’s really giving me the rage and a want to go back to FM7. I really hope this is patched quickly!

If you want to barrel through walls without slowing down in your off-road vehicle, use a heavy vehicle and don’t use Weight Reduction. If you want to pass the AI in water, have some ride height. If you want to see something hilarious happen to the AI, do the Cross Country circuit that goes around Bamburgh Castle in D class.

It seems like it and your perspective may seem correct depending on the car you drive, but I’m afraid the AI is absolutely affected by the conditions. Put cross country races on ‘Anything Goes’ and jump in a Ford F-150 for example and then watch how slow the AI are through water in something like a Dodge Charger compared with you. They’re also very much impacted by hitting walls/fences/trees etc., what you’re probably getting is the draw distance issue where the lead cars are sufficiently far ahead that the walls only get drawn in behind them which means they carry on without any issues and you get horribly slowed down by hitting them. As Ti Hsien says, use a heavy vehicle and the impact is reduced. I’ve also seen the AI missing checkpoints and they definitely get reset, just like the player.

You have to drive with far more finesse in poor conditions, if you attempt to carry on as if it’s dry and summer then yes, it’ll look like the AI is cheating when in fact, you’re just driving poorly. Case in point is the street race from the current James Bond seasonal, you really have to be careful with the DB5 in those conditions and feather the throttle until the car is straight, if the AI was cheating as you say then there’s no way I’d have been able to win that event on unbeatable difficulty.

What needs to change about the AI is the aggressive blocking, ramming and brake checking, the amount of times one of the AI drivers has massively compromised their own race just to ruin mine is ridiculous.

I have to completely disagree. They are not slowed by water or walls whatsoever. For example; Coastal Rush Cross Country. The river after the big jump near the end of that. You get bogged down while they glide through frictionless. Also smashing hay bales out the way without slowing down, and insane speed bursts from behind you. There is definitely something wrong with it.

(edit - I forgot to say river lol)

They get slowed by water. Do a Cross Country race set to Trucks in an A class Unimog and you’ll go through the water like it’s not there while the Tankpools and Iron Knights get bogged down by it. Do a race where the AI drives a Peel P50 and it’s easy to see as well.

They also don’t drive slower on wet road, for them it’s like the road is perfectly dry, the AI is really horrible, and also their car classes don’t make any sense at all, if you drive a 900 huracan and the drivatar drives a 850 golf XYZ, he still has the same speed like you, it’s just horrible rubberbanding AI and nothing else, if you get off the road they make mistakes too, just horrible. Calling this an AI at all is a shame.

You might be right, there. I can’t tell because I don’t slow down for wet roads myself.
