I Know These Roads, I Know Them Well (Road discovery tips)

Another Forza Horizon game, another hunt for all the roads you can drive.

I’ve done it, within approximately 24 hours of getting access to the full game, I’ve managed to discover and drive 488 of 488 roads in Forza Horizon 3. I never set out to just drive them all at once but found myself on the highway heading out of Surfer’s Paradise and thought I’d do a bit of exploring by driving it until the end. That end found me all the way at the far western end of the map, in the interior of the country. Then, branching out and exploring from that point because it was an area not covered by the demo and not revealed in any significant detail thus far, I started finding more and more roads and more and more areas to explore. One hundred roads discovered led to two hundred led to three hundred and by that time, the hunt was on to get them all.

I smashed boards on the way, unlocked beauty spots, saw the sites, found the barns and got a good general sense of the map and make no mistake, it’s very large and diverse. And there are a lot of roads and they’re not all obvious. Some I found simply be being lucky enough to off-road over them while crashing through the trees or over the dunes and lucky for me, I’m not sure I’d have found them all with the map alone.

A few tips for my fellow explorers:

  1. The map will show them all but you’ll need to zoom in and really study it. The unpaved roads appear as dotted/dashed and can be very, very difficult to make out against the background in many cases.

  2. Make sure a road has been discovered from end to end so that it is properly recorded. Don’t assume because you’ve driven most of it or just what’s most visible at a glance that it’s been recorded. Make sure.

  3. I for one welcome our new drone overlords. The drone is your friend and a great help when searching for anything on the map. Yes, it only gets so high but in [rb] turbo mode it really zooms along. It’s important to note that while your drone will discover boards and barns (after the rumor has been activated), what it will not discover in-game is the roads. That’s not to say it isn’t a very important tool in your search, while it won’t record for you in the game the roads it sees it will show you, the player in real life, where roads are to be found so you can go discover them in your vehicle.

A note on barn finds that I hope to detail in a separate post at some point as they are much harder to locate this time. When you get a barn find rumor, head to the location, drive all the roads in the rumor location and then deploy your drone to look for the barn if you haven’t already located it from driving. Once you find that first barn, examine it thoroughly and memorize what it looks like as all the others will have the exact same building. Then, when out exploring or in the course of normal gameplay, when you run across the barn template, you can make a mental note of where that barn is located for when the rumor at that location becomes available.

[Mod Edit - thread merged - MM]

I spent the morning exploring and right now I’m short 2 roads and 2 landmarks. Unfortunately the game isn’t very specific as to what regions they might be in, or what I have found.

Any ideas?

I’ve gone over the map several times trying to find a missing road segment. Do the Festival locations add roads when they get added to the map?

487! Found one! its those darn red dashed drieways.

Same here … I’ve been trying for hours … can’t find it.

I’m at the same point, 486/488.

Does the red dashed one you missed show on the map at all, or is it just a hidden one?

Edit: Got them both. Red dashed ones too!

I got the achievement so it’s not bugged so thats good but have u tried driving around the festivals? Not sure where it’s at but there was a little off road piece that didn’t seem to connect to anything that I came across.

I just found it i feel so dumb:joy::joy:

Yeah … I just found mine too … feel retarded cause it was grey on the map and somewhat hidden, but also somewhat obvious.

Stuck at 487. So frustrating. Can’t make out on the map what I’m missing. It all looks covered. Argh.

For those of you who have as hard a time as I do distinguishing gray from gray, this is where my missing road was:

Still don’t see it? Here, let me help:

Myself and 4 others have just drove around together and been down every road/ally/motorway and so on just to say we are 4 roads missing. We have all looked on the map for any grey areas and non of us can find them. ???

Do any of the festivals open up new roads?

Turns out the festivals don’t open up new roads.

Mine turned out to be a few off road roads that hadn’t been fully discovered, what helped me spot them was turning off all the map filters and turning the brightness way up on my monitor.

I’m currently stuck at 487/488 and can’t find what I’m missing. I’ve looked at the map several times, uses the drone and nothing pops up. Its so irritating. Been stuck there since Saturday and only thing I haven’t tried is turning my tv color to black and white. Going to try that and see what I can find out. :expressionless:

Hey there Hiero, that is pretty impressive, all roads in 24 Hours. That crazy or dedicated… (previous experience leads me to lean towards crazy, but love ya all the same! - I thought MM was the only one that did not require sleep.)

Thanks for the drone tip on the Barn Finds, I was getting frustrated, I think I literally looked around for 40 minutes for one of them! Tried your tip there and was a lot easier to manage. - Keep them tips coming!

I finished this up yesterday. My last one to find was an alley in Surfers Paradise, only 2 dashes long. But after driving on the wrong side of the road doing it and collecting the Bonus Boards I did find myself making a Real Life driving error yesterday morning. I pulled out from a Stop sign and turned into the LEFT Lane, which is BAD here in the US.
