I don't know if i should get forza...

I don’t know anything bout cars, like I would have no idea how to tune or what any of that stuff even does. I’m a pretty good driver at racing games though but like a lot of people that last racing game I played was Need for Speed Most Wanted. I’m already getting an xbox one but appreantly forza 5 is just a gimmick by Microsoft that’s filled with DLC. At the moment this game seems like it can only be fun for the total gearheads which I am not, is it fun for people that don’t know anything bout cars but kinda like racing games?

T10 has reported that there is a wide variety of Forza players, including kids and women in France. That’s because there are a variety of driving assists and quick upgrades to get you into racing without spending gearhead effort. Watch this industry game review from someone who isn’t a regular racing gamer:

i, personally, AM a total gearhead.
that being said, my friend at work plays even more forza than i do, and he seems to know almost nothing about cars. (yesterday, he asked me what i thought about getting a spoiler for his buick lesabre. smh.)
the game has plenty of assists and car classes if you intend to get into racing. the learning curve is simple. the game waits for you. don’t want to try driving a racecar with no assists around Laguna Seca? then, don’t. start off small: a small, C-class car around a simple track. when you’re ready to move up, the game will be ready for you. it is never forced upon you in any way. then, there are other modes where actual racing skill is uninvolved. personally, i have loads of fun in Virus mode (basically, zombies game mode from Halo, but in cars) where, irrespective of what car you choose, it’s all about luck, the ability to fake-out oncoming cars, and luck. does driving skill help? yes. is it essential? no.

now, you said, “forza 5 is just a gimmick by Microsoft that’s filled with DLC.” this is simply wrong. is there DLC? yes. are you forced to buy it? no. are there plenty of fun cars even without DLC? yes. that begin said, do i think the DLC is totally worth it? yes. but then again, i am a total gearhead.

Most people call it a simcade. Half arcade, half simulator. Things that may seem daunting can be worked around. There are physics that can cause you to skid around going too fast around a corner, if you accelerate too fast, brake too fast etc, but you can get around that with driving aids. Traction control to floor it, abs to stomp on the brakes, stability control so you don’t skid going too fast around corners.

You don’t need to memorize braking points or the best line around a track, just follow the suggested line (at this point I’ll note NONE of the aids are perfect…).

If you can’t tune, you can download tunes from others. If you can’t paint, same thing (there’s a paint / livery editor). Heck, the game can upgrade cars for you.

Racing is not clean by any means, either on single or multiplayer player so you don’t have to worry about it.

Really T10 has left it pretty easy for you to get into, that was one of their goals.

As for content… it is definitely down from the prequel on xbox 360, so I’m guessing you’ll only be disappointed if you’re familiar with that game and find both tracks and cars you liked missing. Then you might not enjoy paying for them again through DLC. That is the biggest problem people have.

This needs to stop.

Why the heck would you even insist on driving dirty?

I’d feel better about losing a race with a fast clean lap, than win a race cutting corners and wrecking people. Go back to “Generic FPS 256”.

Because this is what FM5’s drivatars are teaching us… on pro, export, and unbeatable… If you race clean with the first 10-12 cars you will never fiish higher than 12th… much less see 1-4…

Back to the topic… Its a toss up… but if anything, rent it… if you want to buy it, buy it from the xbox store. Now not 100% sure if after you install the disc to the HDD the BDROM isn’t accessed but if it is!..
You will get better performance… but most of all less wear… I just learned this lesson with my 360 and GTA5… I now have a sexy 4GB with my old HDD (thank god)… Oh and GTA’s “play” disc is now installed on a thumb drive… Bonus to this is you get less NOISE!!! and less “Pop-In”… Sometimes parts of the game would now load quick enough from the DVD causing things to appear from out of no where…
Note its $59 from the Xone Store… you can find it cheaper used/retail also note its a 32GB download. Now if you have some extra cash and want extra bells and whistles, find a "Day One Edition aka Limited Edition…

Now my harsh opinion of why you should wait and maybe not even rent…

Wait for it to evolve a bit more… The game HAD to release at launch, in whatever shape it was in… same for all launch the other titles…BF4!. The up side? FM5 will likely be a $29.99 download with all the bells and whistles… *Tiny fear is we might have to wait to wait till FM6.

For starters FM5 is not even close to FM4… if you don’t already have, I highly recommend starting there if you want to get into “simcade”…
Now If you do own and love FM4, FM5 will crush your feature rich heart…

YES, Forza Motorsports 5, on, Xbox One, is, very, very, pretty!!! (9.8/10)… but sadly that’s where it stops… the UI and features are far from complete… the physics weird at times… the sound stage is horrible… The UI is HORRIBLE (mostly navigation)… Drivatars are wacko… the in-game economy still seems up in the air… can seem to beg you to buy and use tokens (real money)… most of the features are still, coming soon… ex. the market place… and then we have the lack for tracks… which I hope will come as DLC…

FM4 plug again… most of my friends still play FM4… and yes, they do own a Xone and FM5… FM4 is also CHEAP used and even new, much more value, I highly recommend…

Edit: quote went wrong

This is just simply not true, if I race expert and race clean I get to first without any problems on any track with any car, if I race pro And race clean I get to first without any problems on any track with many cars, if I race unbeatable and I race clean I get gold (first to third) without much problems on most tracks with many cars - if not I lower the difficulty, I certainly dont go ramming them and whatsmore I am certainly not giving the davice to play dirty

Its so funny when people complain about drivatars playing dirty, but they do it themselves as well - even more if they give the advice to play dirty…

If you are struggling to get gold (or even to 12th) by playing clean, you should lower the difficulty
Besides its not that the drivatars learn you to drive dirty, its rather the people that learn them to drive dirty, but not the way you would think
Its actually like this: if you drive aggresively, dirty (bump and running, bump to turning etc. - using moves that are more than very slight touches) your drivatar opponents will drive dirty as well, if you are aggresive they are aggresive, they mirror your behavior - my own observation tested after I read this being told by others on the old forum
If you are struggling lower the difficulty and play clean (lower the difficulty so that you can win cleanly - this how i started), and you will see that 1) its is easy to get gold, 2) your drivatars wil play cleaner because you play cleaner… Once you are able to beat that difficulty easily while driving clean, turn up the difficulty
But dont go playing dirty because your drivatar opponents will do just the same as you do, and you will just be complaining about how dirty the driavatsr are, while you are contributing to it youself… Very simple observation…

Just a friendly advice

Now I don’t mean bashing your way up the field rather working you way up the field using clean lines and no unrealistic moves. I’m stereotyping the new to Forza player that may not be use to cars that are very willing to fight back. Only a few games have AI this dynamic…

Its been almost a month since I’ve played FM5 but I’m guessing the Drivatars haven’t improved. The issue that I encounter with the first 10-12 cars is they are not very bright most of the time and sometimes never a safe time to pass. By the time you get to “Gold” 1-2 are unreachable in one lap or sometimes just p1… One of my recent races had was the multi-class race at Sebring… This chrome Veyron was HORRIBLE on the first leg but could always catch up on the strait… That car took me out at least 5 times and not because I was racing rough… It would loose control and take me out or crash into me after i passed… Once it expected me to move over on the strait…

Not saying your wrong but it was my understanding that Drivatars actions were taught by their owner… I’m guessing some if not most users (me) in the past didn’t worry about AI drivers as they basically went around on a rail and were VERY predictable… well except for M. Rossi… :stuck_out_tongue:

haha yeah M. Rossi could be annoying sometimes
I understand your point about the average newcomer, thats exactly how I imagine them to race as well, they try to race difficulties they cant handle and then they play dirty to get to the first place
I started playing FM5 in late december, so I dont know how the drivatars were before, but I read some people claiming that in the first couple of weeks after launch they were worse,
initially I also thought that they play too dirty, but then I realised I should lower the difficulty and play cleaner myself, I came as a stubborn forza player thinking that I can handle the the highst difficulty from the start, but managed to do so with a bit too much aggresive driving, so I tried lowering the difficulty and playing smoother, and it worked for me, eventually reaching the higher difficulties anyway, of course every now then I encounter similar problems as your veyron example, but they tend to be more sporadic now

and yes I understand your point about drivatars actions being taught by their owners, but it seems to me that the drivatars are programmed to reflect how you as their opponent drive as well, so someones drivatar knows how to play dirty, but his drivatar tends to use this knowledge when it gets activated by similar behavior on the track - at least that is my observation - maybe I am wrong… but when I play as clean as possible I get almost no dirty drivatars

Is that a general “you” or directed towards me? I wasn’t saying whether it was right it wrong. I was stating a fact. AI will race dirty if you touch them and so do most people online.

I agree with your last paragraph, but that’s what you get when you try to mix “rubbins racing” arcade racers and sim orientated racers.

My Advice is YES get it.
You can find out loads about tuning online.
There are a lot of tuning APPS you can get with instructions of how to tune.
I have a tuning app on my Iphone LOL (Sad I know).

If you can drive then the rest will come … Forza is the best one out there in my opinion.

Happy Driving

You haven’t got it at all. The game retails with more cars than any racing game other than previous FM titles and Gran Turismo - four or five times as many cars as many top racing games, in fact. Nobody ever has to buy a single DLC car at any point and no other microtransactions are ever necessary.

I’m a ‘moderate’ gear head and have been with the Forza series since the beginning.

(this was before I could even legally drive a real car - I spent so much time trying to drift the mid-engined Toyota MR2 I’d credit the game with my purchase of a real one for my first car!)

As others have pointed out; the difficulty isn’t too great; there are plenty of scalable difficulty options - its definitely not a full-on simulator (although you will hear some people act as if they cant tell if they’re driving a real car or a game…haha)

As to whether you should buy it - depends on what hardware you’ve got - if you are buying an XBox one for this (what I did) - I would say; flat out, 100% no, don’t waste your time. If you already have an Xbox One; AND a 360, I’d probably recommend picking up Forza 4 instead. Sure the graphics are slightly worse; but there is MUCH more content and things to do. It’s not just the cars (although there are a LOT LESS this time around) but the TRACKS that you will notice. After doing a single series chances are you will see most of the tracks (there are 14). Also many more features are in Forza 4 that didn’t make it into Forza 5 (won’t go into that here, look on the forums and you’ll find out what)

IF you only have an Xbox One, and you want a racing game right now that has some depth to it, then I’d say go for it.

Go for it, its a good game, im no pro but i love it

you dont need to be a gearhead to enjoy this game, if you like racing games the possibility that you will like Forza is pretty high, of course the game is different from the NFS type of arcade racers, but with assists you will be fine, and maybe you will eventually turn them off, and maybe you wont like it, because there are a bunch of players who only like arcade racers, and there are a bunch of players who will never play arcade racers anymore when they try out a sim racer like Forza, you have to know yourself to determine whether you elong to former or the latter category, just ask yourself whether you would like driving real-life tracks or whether you would rather stick with some arcade fantasy - if the latter xbox one has NFS: Rivals and you should stick with that
and no FM5 is no gimmick from MS, its actually the best (racing) game I have ever played, and I was a long time GT player before,
if you think its a gimmick because of the DLC than probably every current game is a gimmick, because thats the way gamedevs do their business nowadays,
you are not obliged to buy any DLC to enjoy the game, if you are just a casual race gamer you will enjoy the game without the DLC cars, its usually only the gearheads who complain about the DLC, either they want the cars to be non-DLC or they want other cars to be in the DLC packs (the latter usually dont complain about DLC as a concept, but about its content)

Every game every system everything in life will have its detractors. I for example love my Harley. I built, I customized it I ride it every day. Lots of folks don’t like Harleys. Especially ones like mine on a rigid frame. but I didn’t listen to detractors when I bought my first HD a long time ago or when I start bulding this.

Some folks think the 2012 M5 I have is horrible I love it. It however has its detractors.

The point is only you can decide if you like it or not.

It also doesn’t bother me that some folks say it is arcade like. As someone who is a total motorhead, I can tell you there is not 1 PC or console game out there that is really anything like driving a really car. Regardless, of what they say- Some games may be better than others but I have owned some pretty cool cars over the years and when you push a car through turns overseer- understeer- weight shifts, etc are experienced much differently.

So there is no such thing this side of a major F1 teams training simulator that will give you the full meal deal.

So if you can set aside your worries, and commit to using the game you want to have fun that get it and enjoy.

Take criticism of this game or others with a grain of salt. I personally had MANY MANY hours of fun with Need for speed Shift. I found Horizon to be a total and complete bore. Took me no time at all to lose that game disc somewhere in the house.

If you play I hope you enjoy it, there are some REALLY smart people who are so very willing to help you.

Microsoft doesn’t make Forza and Forza doesn’t make you use any micro transactions. You never gotta buy a car pack or a token.

Im pretty sure that Turn 10 is a part of Microsoft
