I am quite impressed and quite sad that I had not bought this game till now. So should I buy this or wait for the next FH 5 to come? by the way, I play on a laptop.
You missed the black Friday sale, though it may go back on sale over the holidays.
We may be a long way from FH5. Mark Spencer (head of Xbox) made a point of saying that he wanted to give both teams some extra time, and a recent hiring highly suggests that the game that playground is currently working on is not FH5.
It is possible that turn 10 may release a FH or FH like game instead of their traditional Forza Motorsport offering (or perhaps the two versions of the series will merge with the next title), but even then I would expect the next Forza game to be a launch title for the Xbox series X (god that;s a terrible name). So we’re a ways off.
A bit of a tangent, but what’s the source for this? I’ve heard rumors that PG might be working on a new Fable game, and was wondering if this new hiring would support that rumor or not.
Anyways, I hate to say it, but FH5 might be better off if PG isn’t involved and we get some actual car guys building future Forza titles. Just from watching the differences in the livestreams you see Turn10 talking about cars and the simulation quite a bit and can tell some of them do really like cars, but at PG it’s all about the events/rewards and whatever wacky new game mode they came up with, with cars seeming to be an afterthought.
Back to the topic of the OP, it is going to be awhile before FH5 comes out, so the next time FH4 goes on sale will be a good time to buy it. Also consider FH3 if you haven’t played it.
Wow! What an interesting observation. I have been trying (not all that hard actually) to figure out why I love Horizon 1 so much more than the others, and have liked each successive version less and less. I think you have hit the nail on the head.
I very much like the car selection, the routes and the scenery in Horizon 4, but the gimmicky Fortnite emphasis in this game, especially the prancing, dancing and clothes, continues to be a major distraction for me.
Yeah, I feel the same way about FH1. If you look at the intro credits Turn10 and PG are shown, but Turn10 don’t have their name on games after that and IMHO it shows.
If you want more than the base game on gamepass then sure.
Ultimate is £40 on the ms store, you can save a little more by buying a discounted gift card at a 3rd party store, then buying the game with gift card.
Keep in mind though, you may have missed the opportunity to get some of the rare cars, but more rare cars are added all the time.
The game looks and plays great but they love to add features/modes that a large number of players don’t want while simultaneously adding bugs to the game. They just can’t help themselves.
I want the graphics and the physics as they are combined with a bug free game and good events. That’s it, that’s your winning formula.
Nope, just sub Game Pass. Joining right now means you miss out on tons of exclusive cars and need to build your garage from scratch.
With the money you save on buying it, you get a few months of Game Pass and you have access to quite a few highly rated AAA games (including Microsoft’s offers) and some great indies such as Bloodstained.
I’d only recommend buying if you want the Ultimate Edition and even then only if you’re a diehard fan.
I think Microsoft should consider making PG focus on their unannounced RPG and, with regards to Forza Horizon, let the studio work on the map only. The two main features of Forza Horizon that put it above NFS are the map and the physics, but the physics is mainly T10 with PG’s arcade treatment. I can’t say any of the new features in FH4 did much to push the franchise further apart from the route creator and the wheel paint. Even the seasons divide the community, with most hating winter. I personally like the seasons but I’m in the minority.
Judging from the recent updates it feels as if the team does not “want” to work on Forza Horizon anymore, at least not in the way it was originally conceived, that is, Forza on the open road. Why would the studio start to work on something radically different and completely outside their area of expertise (RPG)? They can build great worlds but RPG genre is more than that, it needs a good story, and FH stories are below average so far.
Cars like Rimac C_Two, Apollo IE, Bugatti Divo and 488 Pista are so rare and expensive they might not even exist in the game at all. It’s not about the cars anymore, it’s about feeling special that you have something others don’t. And that’s pretty sad IMO.
It’s a great game, with some feature you are bound to like and a few others you probably won’t. Nothing is forced onto you but there are incentives for playing the game the way PG wants you to. There are a lot of exclusive cars that have to be won in events or bought in the AH. Somewhere near 100 of them by now and growing every week. There is probably a car you want that is in the game, but can’t be purchased the normal way. And there is no guarantee that it will reappear or not. If that doesn’t bother you then you will absolutely love the freedom the rest of the game offers.
Id say its the best current non sim racer at the moment but its not without its flaws Theres a good game there with a decent variety of events to do further boosted by the blueprint/route creation system and offers a lot of customisation on your cars including paints and some bodykit options depending on the car. The season system is good and does impact many routes especially in winter. The Expansions are alright (Storm island is decent but lacks stuff to do after a while the LEGO expansion is in my opinion the worst Horizon DLC if including each game), Car packs range depend on car taste but a good mix of everything besides some Hoonigan reskins
Mains gripes is the the Games as a live service Forzanite approach its adopted like with most games these days with its exclusive cars(theres over 100 at this point 150 if you include wheelspin only + one time unlock cars) if there is any you are after its a nightmare at this stage to obtain some and a good chunk of new cars need online to obtain which is super tedious and require you to play the game when and how it the playlist team want if you dont mind this though its good
id say dont buy fh 4 unless there is a real discount(getting banned now?) and go for fh3 with
I started with fh 4 and when i was done with everything…except the last stupid “superstar creator” for my Capri FE i bought fh3 and for some reason i enjoyed it more, felt more like an open road arcade sim and less a weird hybrid. i enjoy both games but in different ways racing feels better in fh3 but drifting is better in fh4
at 300h fh4 and 100h fh3
and blizzard mountain is amazing while fh4 “expansions” are well…fortune island is way to small but has a good drift zone to tweak your drift tunes and lego speed champs are well…lazy, 4 lego cars you cant build anything which is the point with legos right? and the zone is mostly made with legos but i guess time ran out so there will be a mix of different trees, rocks, houses and so on.
biggest draw with fh3 is that its pretty dead but luckely those who still play are somewhat skilled so you dont run into sunday drivers to often
edit: but if you do buy fh4 dont forget to check out my tunes/blueprints and paintjobs so hopefully i get my capri FE before fh6 comes out, happy sliding ^^
“Virtoz”
I bought it 3 months ago and I a hooked. Disclaimer - I am not diehard gamer so I am not a purist by any means. But this game is super fun. There are almost too many cars to choose from and with the availability of great tunes, with a little practice you can be competing rather quickly. Honestly, the toughest part is deciding which car you want to play with. It like a Cheesecake Factory menu. I would buy it. I have absolutely gotten my money’s worth.
