Huge Ring Around Spinning Wheels

Anyone notice when you drive over 14 mph, that it create a huge flat rings around all the spinning wheels?

I can’t remember it the huge flat rings were there before the latest update for the Hot Wheel expansion pack. Or maybe it is just a bug or the wheels on the cars are wobbly. LOL! Either way, the huge rings going above 14 mph is not normal.

Here is the real car of the Audi R8. The detail of the wheels or Rims are more detailed information while in spinning movement. And no huge flat rings around the wheels:

Huh? These aren’t flat rings around the wheels, and this has always been there.

There comes a point in a video game where it cannot render wheel spokes spinning as fast as they are so they are “morphed” into the “fast spinning” stage where you can see through the spokes. The more material there is the more opaque it will appear, and that is the case with the “fat rings”.

I probably explained that poorly, but go into your living room, turn on the ceiling fan, set it to low.

Then set it to fast, look away, and then look back at the fan. And this method simulates that.

Badabing, badaboom.

So no, the “flat rings around the wheels” aren’t something they’ve added. Its just something developers do so the framerate doesn’t dip from wheels spinning too fast, and it’s been that way since before the update.

It’s also probably worth mentioning that the Audi R8 ingame and the Audi R8 you have pictured are different models and likely have different rims.

Yeah, I think MasterMedic basically hit the nail on the head. Video games commonly swap out fast-moving objects with less detailed ones that are designed to look like they are moving fast. It is likely an effect of that process.

Think about the insane amount of motion blur that would have to be applied to the wheels to get them to look right at high speed. If you replace the default wheel with a wheel that is designed to look like it is spinning fast, thats less processing you have to do, since the wheel itself already has the blur applied to it.

I think the problem here is that there is not enough RAM in the Xbox One console to display the spinning wheels. Maybe the new Scorpio console will solve this problem. All the wheels will display the flat ring around the wheels, especially all the silver color wheels because it is more visible. I tried all the stock wheels and the custom wheels and all display the flat ring around the wheels. If you drive around 10mph or less, the spinning wheels do look normal and realistic with no flat rings.

It’s a minor issue and I am sure T10 will just ignore this little minor issue anyway. I just notice this because I watch a lot replay videos after the race.

You don’t understand. This is not an issue or bug, and every racing game does this. This has been a thing in every Forza game and most other games for that matter. Unless you want your FPS to tank below 1 a second you will prefer the morphed version.

Some people just have WAY to much time on their hands!!

Take it easy my friend. Just trying to improve the realism for the future of Forzamotosport.

Here is the R8 in GT6 with no flat rings around the wheels:

Project Cars Audi R8 with no flat rings around the wheels:

Let’s just say that different game engines on different platforms will likely have different limitations and possibilities, but on another note, I must say that this is one of the most nitpick-y complaints I have ever seen in my sixteen years.

Forza has been on (essentially) the same platform for however many years it’s been around. It’s an Xbox exclusive. Yes, there are differences between the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Namely hardware differences, but even those are slight (especially when comparing the 360 to the xBONE). But I doubt the hardware is as “limiting” as everyone claims it is. PS3 and PS4 have similar spec changes. Gran Turismo is exclusively for PlayStation, has a similar release timeline, and is constantly referred to as “sub-par”… but even Gran Turismo doesn’t have this issue?

I guess I should be happy because none of the Subarus have th– oh wait.

Your comparisons only mean anything if they are using the same rim, and even then you are ignoring the issue with your post.

This is something that every racing game does, including the stills you included. Differences between that and your case being lighting, camera, yada yada, and more than likely the rim being used.

No bug, and more importantly, there is nothing wrong here.

See? Inner lip detail.

What’s different here? The rim design.

Again, the difference with the “flat rings” are the rim design.

If that isn’t enough to ease your mind, here you go:

There is also this Forza Horizon 3 video featuring a stock 2013 R8 Quattro with the stock rims, the player uses side view quite a few times - you can see inner lip detail, so that is also not the issue.

We all appreciate the good bug report but you are not on to something here.

Are you sure the wheels pictures in the first post don’t just have a larger lip on the wheel or that it is a two or three piece wheel creating that effect?

Don’t use the Photo Mode to do the testing. I see the Forza Horizon 3 logo on your pictures from using Photo Mode feature. Photo Mode will always make everything looks good. Use your digital camera or cell phone camera while in Free Roam Mode. The picture will not look so good as you can see from taking a picture of your tv.

Below is another look from an angle view of the wheel while in stop position:

Now in spinning position and see how the flat ring just got larger:

Like I said in my previous post, does not matter which rims or stock rims you use, you will always see the flat ring. And I do not see any custom wheels in this game that got such a huge lip like that.

We dont really care car go fast is all that matters. If this was stopping the car from going then we would mabey care. Question when in game and driving is your car moving or staying in one place.?

I’ve noticed this same issue.

This seems to occur on certain rims. On the rims of certain cars when the wheels are spinning, the lip of the ring is abnormaly big than what it should be. I normally notice this when choosing custom rims to replace the stock version. I’ll try to take a picture sometime later.

Wow you dont want much do you, you honestly expect a car in a game to have the exact same detail as a real life car, most likely taken with a camera with over 12mp for a single frame, if that much detail was put in to every frame of the game you would not fit it on your hard drive.
Try to remember there is more than just the car in the game there is all so the rest of the mapping as well. Over 500 cars and a couple of hundred rims plus the other visual mods and then the artwork all running a 1080p is a dam lot to process 30 times a second and you want even more detail.

You would need to process over 140MB per second

Well guess you could get it if you used the correct hardware but I do not wish to have to pay over 3,000 dollars for a gaming consol. Besides having to buy games on 1tb hard drives.

Glad to see that I am not the only person who see the mystery of the spinning wheels. LOL!

I am an Industrial Designer and have experience in Concept Car design using CAD design software. I used other design software to simulate the motion of the moving cars and of course moving wheels.

The mystery of the spinning wheels. LOL!

I was thinking of the hardware issue but when I look at GT6, Drive Club and Project Cars, I don’t see a problem with the spinning wheels for those games. Maybe it is something T10 overlooked during the design process of this game because being perfectionists, isn’t important for them.

But if it is a hardware issue, maybe they can take out some bushes to make the wheels spin correctly. After all, this is a car game and not a bush game. Take out some trees as well. All the trees and bushes just look awful anyway. LOL!

I have found these wheels in the MULTI PIECE RIM STYLE > ADV.1 ADV08 M.V2 CS:

And painted these wheels in the SPECIAL COLORS > ALUMINUM BRUSHED. These wheels does not even have a lip on them at all. And here you will see a massive flat ring around the spinning wheels:

All I can say is WOW!!

Looks like a simple flub on the high speed model used for some of the rims.

If you’re paying attention to the rims of a car when you’re racing, I think you might be doing it wrong :stuck_out_tongue: As long as the photo mode renders it correctly, I don’t see an issue.
