In the HUD-Options you can find the Option “Ghosts” described as follows: “This setting allows you to choose when you will see your ghost or your opponent’s while lapping. By setting it to “On” your ghost will update and show up on track while you set laps in Freeplay. Setting it to “Rivals Only” will only show your opponent’s ghost in Rivals events.”
While setting this option to “On” and playing in Free Play (on a track where I allready set a time) I observed the following: your ghost will appear right after finishing the first round. If you drive a faster second round your ghost will not update. It still shows your ghost from lap 1. This will go on and on till you are able to beat your Personal Best time for this track and only if you beat your Personal Best.
So the ghost is not updating with your fastest time in this actual session but only when you beat your own Personal Best time.
To see your own ghost is a huge bonus to train a track and improve your time for this track.
I’m using the One X, I have Ghosts to ON in options. I play Free Play all the time and never see a Ghost. I have played Rivals a few times, and in those few sessions I saw a rival ghost on one track only and none ever after.
Is there a trick I can use to get ghosts working? I am working on lap times against friends but its much harder when ghosts dont work.
Well, many hundreds of laps later I’m beginning to think this is the #1 problem with the game right now, at least for anyone who is trying hard to get faster on a bunch of tracks.
Why on earth doesnt the ghost update to match the best lap time shown? As it stands, the delta times shown on a hotlap are based on your best time, but the ghost is based upon the first lap of the session - until you break your own record for the division.
The first lap is always going to be slower than subsequent laps due to the standing or rolling start, so there is no point having a ghost based upon first lap of session.
I think the ghost should always match your best time in the division (ie your leaderboard lap) and if you have no times on leaderboard then, and only then, should it default to first lap of session, then best lap of session for subsequent laps.
I concur with other posters that it should be possible to select a ghost of another player from a leaderboard but as we’ve never seen that in FM7 (only in all the others) I hope we can get our own ghosts fixed first.
