How do you get the logos so good

I’m really curious, how do you guys get the logos so perfect, it’s almost like you have made it in photoshop and uploaded it to forza! this is where I’m really struggling when it comes to painting.

I tend to go to a fair size bigger than I need to to get scale correct, then increase the size even further (usually one letter/logo) per page to refine edges and corners. Also, when copying skewed/oddly sized logos I create a square in the.background as a guide to creating the components to the right scale and separation. It’s a tough thing to learn but practice makes perfect!!

I only started painting in Feb last year and its just a case of time and patience and being your own best critic.

Yep, pretty much sums it up.

Make them bigger than you need. You can line the edges better and also use less layers as you can see up close.
Does take time making logos (more then you think) but patience now will mean you can create some stunning cars from them.

Hope that helps, but post up WIPs of them and can advise more.

Pretty much what these guys have said it’s hard staring out sometimes you just need a push in the right direction good luck

There is some great advice in here already. One thing worth noting on actually making some shapes is that some of the shapes do some odd things when you skew them that really work to your advantage in some circumstances. Spend a little time skewing some things to see what happens. Skewing and changing the X axis without changing the Y and vise versa can also give you some interesting results. Knowing how some of the shapes distort can really work to your advantage. Sometimes it can be annoying too. The quarter circle outer arc., ugh. That thing was great when I needed the tail of the C on the Cams in Competition Cams but it can be useless when you actually want a quarter arc of a circle.

It does take a lot of time as was mentioned though and the more you do it the more you learn what shapes need distorted in what manner get get what you are looking for.

There are a series of shapes that you can almost make any logo you choose. See below and I have highlighted them for you:

Back in FM4 I did this design for a comp just using the 4 shapes on the left…so anything is possible.

Just takes a lot of practice and patience!, listen to critique and ask questions.

I started in FM3 with this

And now I can create things like this…

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Totlxtc is right on the money… The most basic shapes will be your best friend once you’ve had some practice seeing how they stretch and skew… Layering is crucial though, learn to look past the actual shape and think of what a group of them could make, especially because they can be used to mask portions of other shapes to create specific lines and angles… I made this car using almost exclusively the shapes he has highlighted for you

Best of luck, it’s frustrating at first but there’s a learning curve and once you have it the sky’s the limit

…and before too long you can actually look at a logo in real life and take it apart in your mind in forza shapes

Same here. It’s like an addiction. Hard to stop, for sure.

This, I do this a lot.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. 99% of anything I do comes from the primitive page. I also use the odd wedge-shaped curve with the almost-flat top fairly often, in addition to what he highlighted.

Google is your best friend when it comes to just looking up the logo and having it beside you while you work. At first it really is just trial and error. Sometimes you’ll get to the very last piece of the logo before it makes everything else look wrong and you have to go back and tweak everything from scratch. Once you’ve gotten a decent feel for the editor though, it comes more and more naturally - at that point it’s really just a matter of imagination and inspiration.

It’s always good to make extremely universal stickers too, the more times you can reuse something instead of making new stuff the better it is. No sense doing extra work!

I can’t stop doing it. It’s like a sickness.

+1 I also find myself doing that.

Trial and error is also the best way. Make the logo and then look at it and see how you can change it. And like everyone as said on here for painting bigger is better.
Also make they logo and if you get stuck put it up on here and 99% of the time you will get help on how to make it/ finish it

Oh god the amount of times my girlfriend has to tell me off for taking pictures of things because I want them for Forza. You start seeing logos and colours as shapes and layers. On second thoughts OP, steer clear, it’s a dangerous addiction!!

i know what you mean, when i go to a car show and see something i like phone comes out and take a pic of that, its all down hill from that point

Here’s a tutorial/vinyl breakdown video I recently made which you might find useful;
