Question regarding making logos. (Not a request)

Hey guys, I’m trying to get back into painting on Horiozn 2 and have already completed one of my first designs which was a 2008 BMW M3 Safety Car and it came out pretty well. This car after looking at the logos didn’t really need any custom fonts. The only one that did was the Pirelli/M logos.

I’m currently in the progress of creating the ‘Castrol’ logo which is a custom font. How do you go about creating custom fonts exactly? Is the way that I’m doing it a good way at going about it? What do you guys do to create a exact replica logo?

This is how far I have currently got.

I’m looking for help so that I can make the best possible designs I can.

Thank you for your time

Solid shapes are your friend. Forget the game has fonts unless you’re working on something that is reeeally close to what we already have in game, and use shapes to create the letters curve-by-curve and serif-by-serif.

I know, it’s time consuming and sometimes you won’t be able to figure out how to replicate a letter and it will be frustrating, but the making of logos is 90% of the difficulty in making liveries in Forza.

(Mods, please merge with previous topic, thx)

Also, I guess there’s not one way to replicate logos. I eyeball it, some others may decide which shape goes where in Photoshop, some others may print an image of the logo and tape it to their TV/use a TV with picture-in-picture and PC connectivity. Find the way that suits you the most and stick with it. You’re doing good so far!

Thanks for the tips, they’re rather helpful

Just got the ‘a’ finished a couple minutes ago. Definitely time consuming haha

Good tips from Clyde there. I use Photoshop because the reference grid in Photoshop is identical to the reference grid in the vinyl editor (squares divided into 4 smaller squares. Find a good hi-res logo and open it up in Photoshop to use as a reference. Also, the eyedropper tool in Photoshop will allow you to exactly match the colors using the numeric HSB values.

Damn, that’s dedication. I just eyeball them!

Ahh yes … but not all of us have the creative genius that you do …

Oh stop it you.

Arrr Ace, feel the love lol.

For the record, I’ve just reached for the A0 trace pad for the task of doing all the Gumball logos AGAIN.

We all know Ace is a logo freak of nature, hes got his own bracket entirely!

The way of the Grid is a good way to paint the decals! Probably the best, but will be a slower way overall.
One trick I use now and again (more to get the correct overall dimensions) is with a good old school plastic rule after that I use the visual approach till it looks as close as possible.
Tracing paper stuck to the TV is another ive heard of in the past.

There is no real best way to paint each logo, just good reference pics are key to accuracy the rest is down to you.

Good luck, so far your doing rather well

Means a lot coming, especially from you mate. I think tracing paper is actually the most practical of these logo creating methods.

Credit where its due mate is all!!
But with tracing paper, makes sure the TV will take tape (take most the adhesive off using clothing) or it will remove half the screen when you peel it off lol

I do almost all of my logo making with the grid turned off lol. If doing fonts, I usually stretch a square to give me top and bottom borders for size, and do the rest by shape forms. I’ve dabbled with the idea of using photoshop for some design mock-ups, but I’m useless with that program so I’ve never really gone and tried it.

Like most have said, if you have a method and it seems to work for you, why try and fix something that isn’t broken.
