How do you find good paints?

As the title…I bought a Golf MK4 went to find a good paint for it…50 mins later i still could not find one.

Can someone give me tips please.

I add the winners of livery contests to my favorites to make their paints line up front, but of course not every winner makes a paint for every car.

The system for searches and suggested liveries needs a lot of work. When it lists suggestions for liveries, it lists some generic ones. When it pulls liveries for Drivatars, it pulls the same handful of liveries repeatedly. There’s people that took two minutes making the most basic liveries and we get those as recommended liveries, like someone just selecting gold paint and uploading that as a livery, like there’s anyone that can’t spend three seconds going in and selecting gold paint on their own.

When we search for “Racing”, “Realistic” (or whatever our preferred categories are) it should then sort the results in order of popularity but it seems to list them in random order.

Im finding whenever i look for Racing/Realistic 90% of the cars are bog standard and dont actually have a livery on them.

Also should the search not put them in popularity order? All paints are rated out of 5 but they dont seem to get put into any order.

I spent 20 minutes last night searching realistic / racing for a Nissan GTR paint and found nothing I wanted. There is no sort by rating which is stupid as well. I searched the forums as well using Nissan GTR and whilst finding some skilled works again not what I am looking for. So will make my own one, wont be complex but will at least get what I am after.

Other than investigating the painters forums here for good painters to follow I have one suggestion. Pay a wee bit of attention during a race to paint jobs. Not enough to distract you but enough to say, “hey, that paint there looks interesting I should check it out.” Then after the race save the replay. Go back later on and view it and go into photo mode and fully check out the paint. Most of the really good ones are signed and you can look up the the creator. This is not fast nor efficient but it is effective. Remember to like and follow skins and creators. They will show up more often in your recommended designs section.

Good luck.

Other than that, create some yourself. It’s hard I know. I’m not the least bit artistic but even I’m managing a few that don’t suck.

try checking out this

Search places the items by the newest first in the list, except for “Recommended.” Also, if you Follow a Creator, that gamertag’s items will be shown among Recommended.

If you’ve done a Search for “Racing/Realistic” three days ago, why not view the latest offerings first today instead of having all the previous ones foisted on you by a “popular” Search? What might be “popular” to you, may be brand new and not even viewed yet therefore have no “popularity” but with the current method of Search, you’re being given all the latest choices.

Under your question of “popularity order,” the newest ones - unrated and therefore lowest - would be a long, long scroll away from the highest rated.

I’l have a look.

The forums are a great place to start.
