Liveries, reccommended liveries page and the average Forza Player

I feel that there is something wrong on how the reccommended livery page works: i see a lot of “”“liveries”“” made by…just the base paint. Honestly, how is it right that someone who just put a random color on the car can be featured in the reccommended livery page more than someone who spend one, two or more hours to create a good looking livery? And maybe the first player get so many downloads to obtain the “legendary painter” status by just sharing some cars with just the colour from the factory. I feel that this method must be reworked. And also there are a lot of players that, when buying a car, can’t see that if they press a button they can choose the color they want. Instead they just go for the basic colour livery shared. Also this behaviour doesn’t help to get rid of this disparity that doesn’t reward properly a lot of very good painters that deserves more downloads.

An example could be the most downloaded livery for the Charger '69 (as the last time i checked it): an only black paint, with 20000+ downloads, just because the file name is “Dom’s Toretto”. Seriously? The third one livery for that car was at the time a fine, cool, and well done flame livery, with flames on all the front of the car that for sure were painted by hand, since they where different from the stock vinyls flame provided in game. And at that time it has like half of the downloads of the first livery.

This happens for the same reason why people buy stock cars out of the auction house for more than they are worth in the autoshow, or why the majority of players feel it’s necessary to shove and ram teammates in a co-operative game mode.

Well its similar with tunes, needs to be rereleased every season with some EZ or some other flashy wording, even tho its useless.
That’s why I’ll probably never hit legendary status, not that I care or could have any use anyway.

There is a system to how the game shows you paints, it’s not one I’m a fan of but there is a system to it.

I think it’s something like friends & Favourites/ most popular/ new. PTG Wildcat* has posted how it worked in FH4 in some threads - given time I will try and find it. We’re sort of assuming it’s a similar system here. A paint can also be featured for a limited time by PG if you win a livery comp.

So a paint that was uploaded day 1 and caught the eye of a lot of players will have a significant advantage over one you uploaded a week ago that nobody bothered to download - as your paint is likely not considered ‘new’ any more and will have been replaced by the latest uploads.

As they add/ unlock more cars in the game - it might be you get lucky and just happen to have a paint ready for it and magically hit that sweet spot, where your paint is new/ popular and gains traction enough to stay on that recommended paints page.

If not, you’re relying on people either favouriting you as a designer because they’ve liked your previous stuff or someone actually going looking for a certain design and using the search function (pretty sure hardly anyone does this).

I honestly think allowing us to put a price tag on our paints might be a better system, similar to the storefronts on the 360 games - if only because a player might think twice about applying ‘ultimate black’ or whatever nonsense is selling at the moment if they had to pay credits for it.

*EDIT

Thank you for the explanation! I heard that to share a livery right before midnight (UK time) Is the best time to have higher opportunity to be into the recomended window, Is that true?

Think the refresh of the recommended liveries happens between 2:00 and 2:30 am in Germany, if I’m not mistaken thats 1:00 - 1:30 am in the uk. But it also seems, that you just stay in the recommended section for 24h instead of 48h (or whatever the maximum time for new is,…) when beeing close to that time.

This is another one of the many “broken” features of the game without proper oversight or regulation of those who choose to exploit it. You will always see the usual suspects dominate the new recommendations pages on all the most critical weekly cars & this is not just from their popularity level. These same players have a way to game the system to ensure their liveries are always posted there. During the refresh you mention, their liveries will appear with the exact same amount of downloads & likes immediately when it occurs, typically between 5-7, which will ensure they stay there. So for those honest players who are trying to promote their liveries, it makes it nearly impossible for them to get their work on this page. This creates the same frustration for those who spend hours creating designs as to those who try to progress through the leaderboards legitimately, only to bumped back by the cheat culture’s impossible speeds/times, etc.

Bucket 4 is the only one that is problematic. The featured designs bucket is typically a maximum of 1 or 2 designs, and only for two weeks. The designs from creators you follow is solicited by the user. And new designs seem to only show up for a maximum of 48 hours.

The popular designs bucket, however, tends to quickly get filled with static content, that only stays popular because it is on the popular designs page, and most people don’t bother to do a deeper search. Often, they are designs that just had the benefit of being published on the first day a car was made available, or sometimes even before the car was made available. They really need to find a way to add more entropy to this bucket. Maybe aging them out of the front page after 3 months or something like that?
