Design downloads suddenly stop?

Just curious if this is happening to anyone else? I noticed a couple of days ago my livery downloads stopped completely! I was easily getting 50-200 downloads/uses a day. As of a few days ago… nothing. No downloads, uses, or likes in four days.

mine slowed down a bit I’d say, but didn’t stop.

Still getting downloads, but not my new stuff.

Yes, I noticed that my downloads dropped suddenly a few days ago. From around the usual 200/day to just under 20/day.

My shared vinyls haven’t been affected though…

I’ve heard others mentioning this happening … but it’s not happening to me. Still seeing about the same amount of downloads and credit rewards as usual.

This is because u have already many followers / friends that usually see ur works. For ordinary people like us the thing is a bit different!

I can only say that nobody will be legendary painter with this new standard. Personally I switched from 4000 DL of the last weeek in 20 DL in the current, while i still look that there are many awful (really) but popular desings in the main page that receive a special treatment for some reason and thousand thousand DL.

Hi Nizmo & Nightwalker,

I’ve had exactly the same thing happen to me. I cross posted about this over on the forza reddit here: https://redd.it/6b53jc

No one has been able to come up with a good answer yet as to why this is happening - one theory I’ve seen which seems like it might hold some water is that with the latest patch, T10 changed the default sort order of liveries and tunes so that the latest designs do not appear first in the storefront.

Wonderful! So basically I just unshared all of my five star designs for no reason lmao. Last night, I uploaded a few of the ones that were the most successful in the past and, surprise surprise, zero downloads since then.

Yeah. Totally brutal! I’m not 100% sure why it’s happening - but whatever the reason, I just don’t understand how new content is going to get seen, downloaded, used, and liked under the new system.

PS if it’s any consolation what you did with your 5 star cars, I did with my entire portfolio. All 93 of my published liveries, representing hundreds of hours of work, are now at one star… Guess I can kiss any hope of ever reaching legendary painter status goodbye! :frowning:

PPS I just checked out your storefront - great Ford rally liveries, gonna grab & like them now! Cheers.

Of the several threads about this issue, the common theme is that re-sharing your designs no longer works and new paints aren’t guaranteed a front spot. So the only way to get recognition by the masses is if you participate in the forum-sponsored paint events or generate interest through creating your own gallery thread. More than anything, this sounds to me like a move to increase traffic and activity here in the forums. Shrewd move if that is the case, but I can’t say I blame them for looking for ways to keep the forums relevant when Facebook, Twitter and such have killed so many other forums.

So from now on, to deserve more popularity in the storefront the players will have waste a bunch of time between socials and forums instead of focus only with the game and make designs?

What a wonderful choice!

It’s definitely disappointing. I started out doing some digital camo designs that many on here would probably frown apon I’m sure. Some look great though. Just recently I’ve been doing more complicated and realistic work and I just can’t get it out there now.

Time to start entering livery contest and sharing our work on forums and such?

I also unshared all my five star designs when this all started. Ugh!

Hi Sbus, interesting concept which hadn’t at all crossed my mind. Of course it’s all conjecture – but if this is a move aimed at driving forum traffic, it’s a pretty baffling one. Painters represent only a very small % of the overall player base – would be much more effective to simply offer a credits reward to all players for periodically visiting the forum (in the same way as the forza hub).

If something has changed and if it’s solely directed at those who repeatedly unshare/reshare the same designs over and over to kinda ‘game the system’ to earn more credits … then I don’t see that as an attempt to drive traffic to the forums … but more of a change to eliminate what I would call a kind of loophole in the design sharing system. Not that those doing this are doing something strictly and explicitly prohibited … but they have found a way to game the system that kinda skirts around the spirit of what the design sharing/rewards system was intended to do.

Another good reason to implement a change. It’s kind of like “nerfing” some of the cars over the years for driving above their stated class or weapons that were initially deemed overpowered in other games.

Well, I’m sure it will be obvious to both of you by now that I feel a bit hard done by this change, so let me respectfully offer a different viewpoint.

I’m not in it for credits - if I were, there are a thousand and one other things I would do in the game that would net me a lot more money more quickly and with significantly less effort than repeatedly posting and reposting liveries.

As a painter, what I do care about is having my work seen. I work hard on my designs, (harder than I would like to admit, even though that might not be obvious looking at some of my cars!!!) I want as many people in the game as possible to have the opportunity to see my stuff and judge for themselves whether they want it, and it feels like my ability to get my liveries n front of people has just been severely limited.

If we can’t repost any more then c’est la vie; everyone is in the same boat. But I’m concerned that brand new liveries created following the patch also seem to be getting a lot less exposure as well. To test, I painted and posted 2 new designs. The first was a new livery for the Rip Rod, using a design that has been very popular on other cars in the past. The second was a recreation (starting from scratch, in a new file) of my most popular livery, for the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta - this design has always gone 5* within 24 hours of posting. Both files were still at 0 DL’s after 24 hours. So I don’t think it’s just “reposted” cars that are being impacted here.

One thing that has definitely changed is that if you go into the “find designs” area now, you will likely see only 5 star cars. The sort order seems to be 1) Featured Designs, 2) Followed Creators, 3) Popular Designs. Ifthat’s what people are being shown, how are new designs going to get any exposure or gain traction?

Would be great to hear from any painters that have seen a significant uptick in downloads since the patch / expansion, and the relevant details around this:

Did you unshare and reshare any of your liveries either before or after the HW launch?
Did you create any new liveries following the HW launch and if so are they getting downloads?
Did you have any 5* cars in your portfolio before the HW launch, and are these cars getting significantly more downloads following the launch?

Hah hah, yeah Don Joewon Song getting compensation AND millions upon millions worth of CR just for old paint and tune downloads. Makes total sense.

Very few people actually deserve the legend painter rank, as has been previously discussed several times. Matte zinc paints shouldn’t qualify as “legendary”. I don’t know why, but I feel like the people that share such designs will benefit more from this. Just a funny feeling, though.

@MisterGorgon

You and I have now been in a couple of the same discussions both here and on the Forza subreddit … and based on your posts, I do believe that you have a genuine interest in seeing your work promoted and do not seem to be one of the ones out to scam the system and make billions in credits. If that’s truly the case … then my comments were not aimed at you in particular. And honestly … if a change truly has been made to limit downloads because of some individuals’ practices of repeatedly unsharing/resharing designs just to gain more credits … it seems that this is more of a move to close a loophole than any kind of punishment for people that may be seen as breaking a rule or doing anything specifically prohibited. I don’t think there’s ever been any rule or directive from T10/PG about this scenario that I can recall.

As to what is showing up in the Find New Designs section now … there really seems to be some randomness to it. I just went in and searched for new liveries for several random cars … and did mostly see 5* designs … but not always. In several searches … I did see some 3* and 4* designs shown. And one other note … there is obviously some randomness to it … because you can search several times in quick succession for the same car and get different results every time.

I am also interested to try and see what may be going on with downloads now … so I have just updated my DL spreadsheet for all my paints and will watch it every day for a few days and track results. I have never done the unshare/reshare thing … all of my paints are still up from their original sharing (some from the game’s original release timeframe) and I am still seeing downloads on all of them. I will post back here after I’ve had a few days to monitor all my designs stats.

I think that you’re missing the real target here. If you already have triple (or more) of our followers and friends in the game unshare/reshare the same paints is pretty useless.
Obviously you won’t have same our problems man. Maybe you’ve forgotten but We’re all talking about people that have not yet reached the Legendary Level or dont have much popularity (even if their works are great).

Sadly in this situation a simple black cover paint or an amazing design both end up in the same mixing pot and they are easily forgotten very soon. THIS is the heart of the matter.
