Horrible exposure changes (picture too dark or too bright)

So, there are two ways around this the first is to just kill the HDR in game, when you want to take photos. The 2nd if on PC and you are letting Windows control the HDR, there is a SDR content slider under display settings in windows. I found by moving this all the way left (i.e. removing HDR from impacting SDR content) my images no longer were completely under or over exposed in the game (no more black frames). This also happily fixed the Windows snapshot and xbox overlay screen capture functions which I always seemed to have an issue with on my Using a LG CX 48", anytime I tried a screen cap of HDR content it would always be overexposed - this setting fixed the issue allowing me to grab caps of anything on screen on the CX without the blooming with both the Windows Snip (Windows Key + Shift + S.) or the Xbox Screen Capture overlay (Xbox Game Bar)… note the display and windows are still running in HDR modes on. Hope that helps.

All my HDR are off.

Really starting to get annoyed with the skybox being blinding while the rest of the world looks like I just put on the darkest sunglasses I could find, and my cockpit looking like a basement with only a small shaft of light making it through. Turning off HDR helps a little, but it’s still really bad.

My lights at nighttime feel like bicycle lights, and in the daytime with no clouds I can put the sun directly on my dash and I still can’t see my tac in some cars, but exiting any tunnel or turning some corners in the city my screen goes almost pure white and as bright as it possibly can, to the point where it causes me pain.

I turned back on lens effects and that seemed to help a little as well, but the game still looks terrible during sunrise/sunset, and looks unnaturally dark at midday without clouds. I’ve been going mad experimenting with different settings. But what little progress I’ve made to improving the experience are pepples off a mountain.

I just played FH4, some night races. It was immediately apparent that the lighting is much much better, also the headlights worked to properly illuminate the road which isn’t working for me in FH5 where they are like candles. The devs should look at this. Most people I assume at least on PC are not using HDR screens and should be catered for with normal lighting. Dirt Rally 2.0 suffered a similar problem on release.

I’ve captured a gameclip that portraits the change in darkens/brightness depending on the camera angle, even when driving a roofless car.

Capture info: Xbox Series X, performance mode, HDR off.

Hello, deleted the game. Because there is a serious bug. When in a race, the car can suddenly stop, and the speed of the car is zero. It’s terrible. It’s time to make you, not a monotonous version of the game. The same type, the third part and the fourth, and the fifth. I’m tired of it already.

I checked the brightness setting to make sure it’s the same as FH4, it is, both are set to the default of 50.

Here’s FH4 vs FH5 in similar conditions.

And another. Surely it isn’t supposed to be this dark.

I don’t see this with any car. Only car that gets even close is F1 GT in storm where hood, bumper, chase and chase far cameras look depressive and only two cameras inside look bright (not blindingly of course like some players claim) and clear. I don’t even see black ground “issue” when sun is low at dusk or dawn. Benefits of properly calibrated HDR.

I have the same problem while in the dawn phase or before sunrise. I can baresy see the road. The should be at least an ability to turn lights on.

Ditto

I have the same issue with a Radeon VEGA 56 , on Win10 PC (Steam) . Tried many drivers versions, including the latest non WHQL. Tried many different options in the drivers ou the settings of the game , but not the SSAO will do within a couple of hours.
The Cockpit and driver views are awful depending on the cars. The worse so far for me is the Forsberg Racing Toyota (the NASCAR)
So it’s not Nvidia ou AMD, It’s the game by itself.

I opened a ticket , and i didnt find the pinned one that someone talk about in this thread

The HDR is messed up in this game, and is causing all of these problems. I usually play the game in 1080p with HDR off, but in 4K with HDR on the colours all look dull… yet most of the problems with colour changes go away. So something is messed up with HDR inside the game itself. When you come out of a tunnel, and you see a white flash that is also the messed up HDR. A few tweaks from the programmers, and the game should look very nice. Currently, no setting is working properly. It’s possible that HDR is switching itself backwards… so 4K is switching HDR off, and 1080p is turning HDR on, and both working with the wrong RGB palette.

Ran a long race (5 laps) on Goliath last night, with the entire race fixed to “night” time. (I think they have done an incredible job with the lighting at night, it is the Dawn / Dusk transitions that are just wrong.)

When driving thru the tunnels on the “bridge/highway” portion of the route, the scene DARKENS as you enter the tunnels, and then gets brighter again as you leave the tunnels. Tunnels should be the brightest part of the whole circuit at night, not the darkest.

Badly broken.

ive not had any issues at night seeing where im going either in cockpit or out of it. it looks great on my oled.
far better, and more realistic than in fh4 where stuff looked bathed in full moonlight even when it was overcast

no issues coming out of tunnels either. or tunnel walls ‘glowing’
ive watched formula 1 monaco gp many times and fh5 mimics both entering and coming out of the tunnel there perfectly.

…With cameras which struggle with changes in lighting…

Sometimes i wonder if some of you are playing the same game than the rest of us… really.

I have an amazing monitor, IPS oled as well, and i suffer from the same problem AS EVERYONE ELSE. And unless you are playing a different copy of the game lol,
you should not be different at all. This is a game engine issue, it doesnt matter if you have a better monitor, or whatever lol.

And dude, get some glasses. FH5 looks way worst than FH4. By a mile. Horrendous in comparisson. Of course im assuming you played more than five minutes, right?

The latest nVidia update has somehow put a stop to this, at least leaving the last tunnel after the bridge in the Goliath. I can now see the checkpoint and don’t get the ridiculous amount of flaring that’s previously blighted the game.

I’ll try that. My drivers are only a few weeks old, but there is a new driver.

Anyone got any opinion or feedback about this? Is it a bug?

Basically the interior of the car gets lighter or darker depending on whether you're braking? I also noticed in photo mode that the windows can be almost opaque until you zoom right in. I have never noticed this behaviour on FH4. I just tested FH4 in the same car and it didn't act like this. I don't know if it affects all cars in FH5 but I assume so, I haven't checked others yet.

looks like a bug to me. or…

you sure that it isnt caused by something on the incar dashboard lighting up and illuminating the player?
although it would be a very strong light.
