Can't see anything

Seriously, 1/3 of races looks like this:

“Day” often means “late sunset” with everything pitch black against the sun. The game is too dark even during the real day (just watch every Forza 7/GT comparison on youtube), and aside of midday it is real dark. I skip all races like this because they are very uncomfortable and sometimes I have no idea where am I driving at all. And of course there is no brightness adjustment in game for some uknown reason

I agree, this has been from a visual fidelity standpoint the biggest issue for me with this iteration of the game. I can’t get my head around it why they’ve opted for this design choice. My guess would be a cut down in shadow length, shaders and ambient occlusion in order to accomodate dynamic weather and native 4k on the X and also still run the game at 1080/60 locked on the regular console. Reflections on opponents cars are also a big issue, sometimes the reflections are non existent and cars look matte and like a foreign object dropped into the game world. The devs clearly see the issues, they just have no headroom left hardware wise. It’s a shame, but it’s i guess what it is. It has been like this since release 10 months ago. Doubt that they will change it now (and how could they? there is no headroom). I think that will be the last Motorsport we see on this console generation. FM8 will be probably a launch title in 2020 for the new console. Whatever features they have up their sleeves for the 8th game, it’s not possible on the current hardware if the game is supposed to be a step up from 7.

Edit: You can however switch into hood cam. Then the scenery gets brighter with this sort of time of day setting. Sometimes it’s then the opposite and in cockpit cam it’s brighter outside. It’s really inconsistent and annoying to be quite frank.

I drive only with hood cam. It has correct FOV and overall feels more realistic. I also found limited 180 degrees wheel rotation in cockpit view a bit frustrating. The windshield in game eats a lot of light, even during midday cockpit view is sufficiently darker than hood view

I also disappointed about all this 4K HDR gimmicks. Only 1000$ 1080Ti and i7 can handle games in 4K and 60 FPS, and not all games. And consoles are just way behind in terms of pover. So a lot of sacrifices have to be made for 4K&60 FPS and for what? 1080p and 4K are not that different, you can achieve much better looking results implementing better lighting and polygon counts, instead of wasting all you power to increase pixel counts 4x times.

I don’tr even have 4K display

I agree fully, there’s been times I’ve had tomsimply stop playing, which I hate to do, but if you can’t see, how Dan you play. The ‘in-game footage’ they use fir the ads and on display TVs in stores is not a true reflection of what the game looks like in actual fact.

Te FM8, I doubt we’ll be seeing any new consoles after this new Xbox One, not even a S model. With the push for do much of the Forzathone, and the FCRacing now taking centre stage, I expect that all further games will only be Doenloadable, and in fact, now that they’ve let it be known they are working towards a fully cross platform mode, we won’t even need a console to play the game.

It will be playable from tablets, older consoles, for a period, and mostly on the Xbox-One only, and also PS4 and beyond as well as PCs etc . . We are moving to a non-console based gaming platform . . . not a platform specific generation post 2020 ; . .

Most of the ppl I know in the retail circle haven’t even heard of any new machines, which they usually have heard of by now. So something is afoot in the MS camp red gaming into the future. Be prepared to say good bye to your consoles, sooner, rather than later I’m afraid.

Stop ya crying do it without the line on then come back with the line on its easy.

Doing without the line on? Can you elaborate for non native engl speakers please?

Well, this can’t be remedied unfortunately. And it’s irrelevant whether you’re running the game in HDR or not. This is an issue in H3 as well - keep switching views until the brightness seems doable.

I’ve noticed that going from Standard picture mode to Cinema improves the blacks and whites for me as far as FM7 is concerned. The game can look dark, sure, but thank God they’ve done away with the FM5/6 angel rays, super-bright lighting system. It’s way better than that and can actually make the game look photorealistic.

If by “photorealistic” you mean amateur snapshot, than yes. Dynamic range of digital compacts and phones is very narrow

The problem is, eye is completely different story, it has huge dynamic range which is constantly adjusted. The picture you see has nothing common with your iphone snapshot against the setting sun. The game looks extremely unrealistic

I play on a HDR10 monitor and I can confirm that the low brightness issues is completely gone in HDR.

I agree that without HDR the game is sometimes almost unplayably dark – but all issues are fixed with HDR – even night races are well lit when using it.

same issue, many times I cannot see well at all or the racing line disappears into the track

some night time races are just impossible

There’s only 2 track you cant see completely in the dark the last section on cota full and nurburgring nords the rest are easy even without line.

I know the video option is greyed out in-game under settings but from the main menu at the start of the game under video settings you’re saying there’s no brightness adjustment? I usually have 2, one I think is general brightness and the other HDR brightness? Just seems weird because I tend to see the opposite where the game gets so bright during day races it actually hurts the eyes to look at the sun. Besides night races when the headlights have been wrecked I haven’t noticed a race that’d been too dark. Even the overcast afternoon races you get sometimes at Leguna Seca are still plenty bright. Are you playing on a HDR equipped monitor or TV?

I am a big fan of Forza but I agree with you. One reason why visibility isn’t that good in the game is because the decision was made in a Turn 10 conference room to show off these lighting effects. And they simply overdid it. It’s either too dark or sun is shining right in your eyes. From my experience, most racing happens when the sun is above. But in Forza most races take place in an environment where screenshots look great, but it’s not that great for actual racing.

They did the same thing with the replays. I would much prefer a Trackside camera rather than these close ups and zooms. It’s almost like the creative guy in the conference room had the final say in the look and feel of the visuals.

I work in a big company, and this happens a lot. The marketing manager ends up suggesting something that makes no sense but it makes it to the final product anyway.

Replays are a big let down in the Motorsport series for quite some time by now. You can’t even start to compare them to the smooth cams in AC, PC2 or GTS. I really don’t get this design choice at all. It’s actually stressful to watch these replays. TV Cam setting is not supposed to look like a Michael Bay movie. I just guess the broader audience likes this kind of “action” and they sure did their market research before going with that.

Hmm I never have races like that. My races are always bright and I can see perfectly fine. Even when it’s raining. My problem is in the garage. Especially selecting wheels. The lighting is horrible. If the wheel is chrome, you can forget about being able to tell what it looks like. I end up painting them silver before selecting a wheel.

This kind of darkness only happens when I stream to my laptop, it’s absolutely fine on my TV which is HDR

I’m not on HDR and the game looks okay to me. Just takes a little bit of picture tweaking. They’ve just gone for a more dramatic look and I actually prefer it over FM6.

Unfortunately, the headlights do not illuminate the road like they do in real life. It’s the same headlight effect from Horizon 3 - it was too dim then and people complained about it left and right.

The lighting issues do deserve a look - particularly when you see half the cars on a grid with their headlights off and the others with their headlights on. The ones with the headlights off, interestingly have their rear parking lights on. Also, during those overcast and rain races, the headlights on my car automatically go off during the last few laps or right before the final lap.

One other thing I want to point out is the brake lights either being really, really dim or overly bright - like, bright orange, nearly white kind of bright. And people have reported that despite having HDR10.
