I’ve got back to back 48hr shifts coming up next week starting next Tues evening so I called my local Gamestop to see if they were doing a midnight release in hopes of being able to play FH2 starting at midnight since I’ll be staying up til daylight that night anyway to change my sleep schedule. Unfortunately being an exclusive release on the worst selling console in history(his answer, not mine) isn’t enough to warrant a 12:01 release. I even reminded him that Shadow of Mordor which is also releasing on the 30th is a highly anticipated release across both platforms but it didn’t help.
Guess I’ll be heading over there to remove my preorder and order from Amazon tonight in hopes that maybe I’ll get lucky and get it delivered early like the last game I preordered from them. Otherwise it’ll be Sat or Sun before I can sit down and play.
None of the GameStops in my area are having one either. One of the reasons I went digital for the first time. It took almost 20 hours to pre-download the game but at least now I can play it right at midnight.
Yeah. They could have gotten a BUNCH of more people with forza fuel, but the way they “explained” it, 90% of the Forza fans didn’t know what was happening! Let alone new comers! By hiding the 360 version & simply in my opinion not promoting the game enough in general, they risk flopping and not having midnight releases.
I think Horizon 2 should get a mid night release, but I guess not this time. Hopefully for H3, if it ever comes, that they do better.
I thought it was one of the 4 big racing releases… Horizon 2, the Crew, Project Cars and DriveClub. but DriveClub and Horizon 2 are the smaller releases of the 4, since they only appear on 1 platform.
I’d say Project Cars and the Crew will have midnight releases, they’re the real big ones.
Just be happy you get to play it on the 30th and you don’t have to wait 3 more days. Kind if ridiculous that the US gets it first and the rest of the world needs to wait. That is so outdated and I’m sure that there are more games sold in the rest of the world then in the US.
PCars is the only racing game out this year. Horizon is an arcadey sandbox style game, much like TD and Crew. There the kind of games it should be compared to.
On the subject of midnight release worthiness, nobody I know who doesn’t play Forza is in the slightest bit interested in this game, and those that do play Forza, only around half have any intention of buying it, and even less have preordered it. I’m pretty sure that these intentions of around 40 gamers provides a pretty accurate representation of the Xbox community.
A midnight release is not up to me, or you, or Turn 10 or Playground Games. It is entirely up to the retailer whether or not they want to do a midnight release. Racing/Driving games are a niche market and it is highly unlikely any retailer would do a midnight release unless they had enough pre-orders on hand to make it cost effective to bring staff in late at night.
It’s cute seeing Americans complain about not getting to play it on the very first second of the 30th when the rest of the world has to wait until the following month.
You know what’s even better? Seeing a non-American trying to incite an argument with Americans over a simple discussion of a midnight release…
How dare we Americans be excited for the release of a new Forza game in one week, while another part of the world just so happens to be less privileged in terms of release dates!
Exactly. Getting pretty tired of nationality bashing simply for the fact of it. Seems some just try to take the dig whenever they get the chance to. Very sad indeed…
It is entirely up to retailers whether or not it’s worth the expense of a midnight opening. For example, the staff have to be paid extra time for working unsociable hours, in the case of my local Game, they need special permission from the mall they are in. who then have to employ security for a night shift, which is then passed on to the store, so more expense. All in the name of a few extra sales. If it’s a big release like GTA V, they do it, but something like Forza isn’t go to sell many copies per store, so they won’t even consider it unless it’s along with something else the same night.
