I had been holding off making a post about this because I haven’t really seen any reports of this happening and wanted to make sure the problem didn’t magically just disappear. The first night of the Porsche Pack’s release I had FH2 crash to the home screen on a couple of occasions. This continued with no consistent game actions being the cause but it would happen 2-3 times a session or not at all. I went several days with no issue at all but it eventually came back and now it doesn’t show any sign of going away. It has now manifested into different types of crashes/hang ups but I’m so used to it now that I can predict when it’s about to happen.
The first type of crash happens on loading menus that aren’t post race. When I launch FH2 it now takes 3 attempts. The first crash to home screen happens when on the initial Hurican load screen. The spinning circle will freeze and within 10sec I’m out of the game. The second crash happens on the 2nd load screen, when I press A to start and it normally would take me into the car meet it does the same thing with the loading circle freezing, 10sec later I’m back on the home screen. The third attempt goes smoothly though I will say load times are extremely long as it takes at least 5min from FH2 Launch to get to the Car Meet screen.
The second type of crash happens once I’m into the game. It will generally happen either when fast traveling to a Hub or when trying to load back into the world after completing a race. This crash differs in that the audio will begin to get choppy and 5sec later the game will get stuck in a sound loop. It never crashes to the home screen and I have to force close the game using the home button. I can’t do much about crashing when loading back in after a race but I have become accustomed to fast traveling just outside draw distance of a major hub and avoiding it that way. While the fast travel to hub crash is 100% repeatable, the crash when loading after a race is about 1 in 4.
I’ve tried moving FH2 back to the internal drive. Fresh installing to the internal drive. Fresh installing to my external drive. The only thing I have yet to try is a complete wipe/reset of my XB1. Reading through several pages(unless I’m completely blind) I’m fairly alone with this issue. If anyone has any other suggestions before I do a wipe, I’m all ears.
Have you done a full power cycle of your console - close all apps, games etc, then turn off console, then unplug the power pack from the wall and wait at least long enough for the light on the power pack to go out completely (or go make a coffee/scones/do the washing/whatever), then plug in and restart. The Xbox One really needs a power cycle to sort itself out with updates and the like from time to time (just like a PC).
Indeed it has been. I actually carried my console with me this past weekend to our lake cabin and then back home again so it’s been power cycled twice. in the last 5 days.
Edit: Now that I think about it, my consoles get power cycled almost nightly. I have them all connected to a UPS that I turn off before going to bed.
I’m having the same problem as your first issue. When loading the game it will freeze frequently, make a stuttering noise, and then crash to the home screen. I’ve tried waiting a while and letting the intro play for a while before hitting the button to start the game with no effect. I can tell one thing consistently though. When I hit the button to start the game it finishes out the cutscene of whatever car is currently being shown and then tries to load a picture of the Porsche 918 Spyder. It is at this point the game will crash. If the Porsche 918 screen loads then it will continue normally.
For about the past week I’ve noticed it isn’t as bad. Like you, I was having to try to start the game multiple times before it would load. For some reason now it crashes only occasionally.
I do think that adding the Porsche 918 in the middle of the startup sequence is the root of the problem though.
When Big Mek posted about this a couple of days ago I replied that it hadn’t happened to me yet, but now that you mention it - it has happened once, and it was that picture of the 918 that did it. I think you’re right about putting that pic in the middle of the startup - it was a mistake.
TBH I haven’t booted FH2 much lately - I’ve been madly buying cars in the older versions to build my garage count for the FM6 Garage Bonuses (up to 11.2 mil now). Ha ha!
While I’ve never been “dashboarded” by FH2 (unlike FM5), it does seem to have developed a crash bug after the Porsche pack (posted about it a couple days ago).
My game crashes the first time I launch it after console powerup. 2nd launch is always successful. It’s like my game has turbo lag, or 1st gear is too tall.
