Hololens - Mind Blown.

Watch the below demonstration:

Hololens Demo - Build 2015

Dont even think of this for gaming. Think of all the possibilities just in the medical, educational sectors alone.

I agree. I’m on board with HoloLens technology.

It is simply amazing and opens up so many opportunities & possibilities.

I was a little skeptical of the Virtual Reality headsets but HoloLens just takes it to a whole new level. WOW!

And here we go. It begins!

I’m pretty jaded from all of the vaporware technology I’ve seen, but with the Hololens being made by Microsoft I’m hopeful. I mean, the number of things you could do with Hololens if it works as well as they say it will… The future is very bright gentlemen! I don’t know about the rest of you, but I personally cannot wait to see what happens! : D

Hololens was always going to be bigger in other sectors than gaming. Its educational abilities (as now demonstrated) far out weigh any gaming potential. Educational sectors are Huge for MS.

just like what they are doing with Minecraft

Its the new way to introduce kids to computer logic and programming. Back in my day it was all VB and dark basic

I wanna build a building. I can go to the land where I’m going to build it, place a 3D model of it into the world, and suddenly I can walk around it in real life as if it was actually there.

I go to a museum, and there’s a t-rex skeleton on display. On demand, I can have the Hololens bring the t-rex to life. Maybe I can press play on a virtual button for a program the museum has made, and watch a fight between two virtual t-rexes inside the museum right in front of me.

I can ask my Xbox to pull a car from Forzavista into my room, and suddenly I can walk around, sit inside, and interact with some of the rarest cars in existence. Then while sitting in the car, I can virtually drive it onto the track and race, all while being able to look around freely (think Kinect headtracking, except this actually works).

Those are three relatively simple things that (I assume) could be possible with the Hololens. Can you imagine the thousands of other, more imaginative things that could be possible with it?

I would bet my left nut that we are going to see hololens support for forzavista, its just perfect for this. But some people might struggle to fit a full sized car into their living room  However, i dont think that you will be able to look around freely when in cockpit view. Hololens just adds virtual things to the real world, but it doesnt replace your display like VR goggles.

Still, possibilities are endless, cant wait to see whats coming. Does it have a price tag already?

Mhmm. I remember reading and watching previews for it when it was first announced, and it appeared to be perfect. Then I got one with my 360 in late 2010… It worked fine enough, but it wasn’t the major shakeup for gaming that they were branding it as. I’ll put Kinect Sports in, laugh at how inaccurate it’ll read my movements at times (it looks like something out of Garry’s Mod), get tired from flailing around, and switch back to my controller-based games. Voice controls are nice though, I love having those. At least, until it thinks a regular conversation is you issuing commands to the 360, and then anything can happen… Lol

It was the very first thing I thought of when they announced Hololens. I was like “emergawd, AR FerzurVirstur!” Really though, I love cars and I love tech, so it’s a given that I’ll love using the Hololens with ForzaVista.

True, Lol. Wouldn’t it be possible for the Hololens to make the car “extend” through walls and objects though? Basically, if I’m sitting inside the car and I look forwards and my room can’t fit the entire car, couldn’t the Hololens just “overwrite” my wall with the car going “through” it? I don’t know if I’m making any sense, I’m about to go to bed actually…

Yeah, there’ll be some serious limits to this. But, this is V1.0 after all. Who’s to say a future V2.0 Hololens can’t do everything we want it to?

I don’t believe they’ve announced pricing anywhere. I’ve heard people say it’ll be in the $1,500 range, but that number was most likely just a wild guess rather than an educated guess. All I know is, I’m gonna need a bigger boa- wallet…

It might still be a bit early to tell, but I feel MS is finally heading into the right direction after years of strange visions and highly questionable decisions. Their unified OS approach is shaping up nicely and Xbox finally seems to be on the right track (albeit a bit late) after Phil took over, even though the hardware is still rather meh

The decision to go for holographic technology rater than VR (with all the strong competition) and strike a partnership with Oculus instead is just pure genious. I’m 99% certain that we will see native Rift support on Xbox eventually (without all that streaming/virtual display nonsense) once they upgraded Xbox OS to the Win10 core. They just cant leave that to Sony and Morpheus. Instead of wasting resources on VR they are now in a prime position for design, science, medical and educational applications, Hololens’ potential in this regard is immense and thinking about the possibilities is just mind blowing.

However, i’m not sure if its going to be a game-changer (pun intented) for us gamers and for home usage. I just cant see myself walking around with a hololens and reading my mails or browsing the web on a wall. However i have to confess, i bloody like the “TV follows you everywhere” feature.

In terms of gaming, while the Minecraft presentation was mighty impressive, it all depends on developer support, i just hope it doesnt see the same fate as kinect (heck they couldnt even get devs to embrace smartglass). And dont forget, Kinect was working flawless back then when it was shown on stage at E3

Woozie, Xbox is currently in a bad spot. They can’t move any in Asia, Sony has 70 - 90% market share over Europe. All MS has is the US.
Sony PS4 copies of games are outselling the Xbox one and 360 combined.

http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/07/08/microsoft-oculus-rift-will-not-work-natively-with-xbox-one/157870/

Their solution will come as Software as a Service, gaining market share by utilizing the billions of pc’s.

Their ‘free’ upgrade for 7 & 8 users gives them a instant dx12 userbase.
Their partnership with valve and oculus ( with shipping the one controller bundled ) guarantees a baseline input device all VR users will have.

Its a very smart move.

I know, that’s why i added “a bit late”. They botched the XBO launch in every regard, just another height of MS arrogance. And they will never catch up with Sony’s market share, thats for sure. However, with the given hardware and all the mess they created, they are now on the right track, i mean things like the surprisingly announced backwards compatibility or the much better twitch support compared to PS4. .I still cant believe that these muppets didn’t offer BW compatibility at launch, that would have been a deciding factor for many customers. Sony caught them completely off guard with their early PS4 release

But yeah, i’m pretty sure this will be the last console from MS. They lost heaps of money with xbox hardware and the software as service thingy seems to be much more appealing given their huge desktop market share. And they already tried to get rid of the existing Xbox division…

Aww, there goes my 99% certainty, its now down to 5%…but hey, it says they have nothing to share AT THIS TIME, so there’s still hope that they might have something to share AT ANOTHER TIME  But if they really decide to leave the xbox without native VR support…then this will be the last nail in the Xbox coffin.

Hahaha, you should have seen me trying the Steel Battalion Kinect demo…in case you dont know the series, its a semi-hardcore mech sim that went from a dedicated freak peripheral to Kinect+Gamepad for the newest entry in the series. I didnt even complete the tutorial, it was just too hilarious. I must have looked like a complete idiot when i was desperately trying to pull imaginary handles and push inexisting.buttons…one of my most frustrating (and embarrassing) gaming experiences ever  From this day on i knew that Kinect will never be an option for serious games.

Guess what I’m gonna go download (and regret later)? XD

I remember that one of my friends played it when it first came out; he was REALLY angry because he loved the original game, but he said this one was completely unplayable.

Well there it is, so bad in Asia, that MS isnt even going to be at the Tokyo game show this year
