what is this about?
be the badlands champion before doing either playlist event? seriously? do the whole thing in a week and then . . . what?
am I missing something?

Thatās the way they decided to do it, and there were similar reactions in the other Rally topics (Maxās and the first impression topic). I think someone mentioned that Hot Wheels was the same way, though I donāt remember myself.
Nope, donāt think you missed something. Thatās the way it looks. Just like it was with Hot Wheels. And there were negative comments about it then so of course nothing changes. Binge rush the heck out of it, growing to hate it, then only doing the weekly chores after that because itās just the spirit of Horizon. Letās send a great big thank you.
They maybe should have turned gatekeeping off for the first month. Orā¦ the gatekeeping could be ādid you buy the expansion?ā Seems like that ought to appeal to the bean counters. But I donāt know that the players care who all can do the extra playlist functions. Keep it simple.
You buy the expansion, you should be able to do the two simple playlist chores for it. Simple as that.
Gatekeeping them is a total bonehead move made by some GP-metric obsessed āmanagerā that never actually plays the game.
There are so many of these little middle digits that PGG keeps giving us and we will remember them, if and when a decent competitor product arrives.
TDU/SC? Motorfest? Gavin Raeburnās new franchise? Competition is surely needed to keep PGG in line.
I usually try to be a playlist completionist (even though thereās no practical reason to be at this point), but screw it, Iām not dealing with that nonsense again. It was bad enough for Hot Wheels, but even then I think you just had to unlock up to the S2 races (or was it S1?), which was still a ways into it but left you with at least some of the progress left. But this sounds like you have to all but finish the entire thing in order to play one measly championship and PR stunt.
Like, even in terms of āengagementā I genuinely do not understand how a dev can sit there and think that this is a good decision. Do you really want your playerbase to fly through the entire expansion in less than a week, and then barely play it afterwards? Doesnāt it look much better if your players are spending more time working through the expansion content over several weeks?
It works as planned. First itās the shareholders, then itās us.
Devs realize that most players are completionists and you can easily get locked out if you donāt buy the expansion immediately. Itāll only take you around 3 - 4 hours to finish it, but itās still immoral and low even by Forza standards
I think that their drive for constant āplayer engagementā hours is ruining the franchise
An unfortunate common factor shared by all of MSās big first party franchises in recent years.
I wasnāt happy that this was implemented in Hot Wheels, as I had very little spare time then, so missed out the Playlist activities for a while. Then I felt obliged to rush through it. Now it seems empty. Doing the Weekly chores means waiting ages to maybe get one teammate in co-op, thatās if it connects at all.
I hope the Rally expansion doesnāt turn into a ghost town too, but at least it has aspects that might encourage Event Lab creativity beyond "jump this far, go this fastā.
I agree that blocking the weekly activities off until the Expansion is completed (or nearly so) is a bad move, that immediately sours the experience. After waiting so long for these pre-paid extras, itās somewhat deflating. Having an immediate negative reaction is surely not what Playground wanted, but why did no one there foresee this? Surely itās fixable?
Like many longtime Forza players on this Forum, Iām getting more and more disenchanted with every new feature, none more so than the recent Motorsport showcase which revealed nothing new that the existing fanbase wanted.
I accepted that the first teaser was just that: an appetiser. That the second trailer was a showcase for the graphics. But this one should have had real gameplay showing off the new āground upā features.
Sorry this turned into a rant. I guess Iām more āground downā than āground upā.
ah, right
it looks to me like itās sufficient to do a minimum, so beat the three team bosses then presumably win the big race
Iāve only done a few of the challenges and have gone up several levels, so unlocking quite a lot more stuff to do without having completed all challenges, if it keeps going that way then it might not be too bad
thereās then still lots of stuff to do, Iāll try and remember to write something more descriptive when Iāve been through it
I think itās definitely focused on FOMO for the expansion, but I agree that forcing full completion just to unlock weekly challenges has no value other than inflating the first weekās engagement metrics as an indicator to the success of the launch.
Iām also not concerned with completing the playlist or expansion just to unlock two weeklies & will play it at my leisure, but I agree with others that it will take no time to do based on what Iāve already finished.
Unfortunately, there are still some major bugs resulting from the latest update (tune=crash at the top) which have added to this frustration with no apparent resolution currently. But itās pretty clear player numbers are up, for now anyway, & Iāve seen a large number of new players on the map.
Also a definite increase in AH activity, particularly around the Rimac. Iām typically able to purchase the new series cars fairly easily on the first day, but no such luck yesterday, despite the number that were being sold. I eventually gave up & āchored it outāā¦
So, letās see if I have this correct: āPlay the game the way you want to, as long as its the way we want you to play it.ā
There should not have been a playlist this week. I finished Apex 100% Not really feeling this. Dirt next. I think I will enjoy that more. I thought I would like it. Itās just more hairpins. I wouldnāt even bother trying multiplayer.
How long did it take to unlock the Hall of Fame in the base game? Couldnāt do the Trial in the playlist without it. People without the early access from the premium edition had about 9 days between release and the start of the second weekly playlist to do it. Was there much complaining about that after launch?
Was there exclusive content attached to that Trial like the Apex t-shirt from the seasonal championship in the rally DLC this week though?
Doesnāt matter if itās just a shirt nobody will ever wear itās a piece of content that may never return for months after this.
Iām really glad Iāve broken away from the completionist part of me. I used to force myself to own every car in the game. Around the time that stupid XPeng came out, I said screw it, sold off every rare car I didnāt want, and now I only collect the cars that actually matter to me. Iāll grab the CT5V and LC this month but I have no interest in the (second) Rimac and the CT4.
I know itās difficult to break away from wanting to complete everything, but it makes the game (a bit) more enjoyable when youāre not pressuring yourself to do things you donāt want to.
I donāt think it makes being a completionist wrong though, I think itās admirable of anyone to go into every single nook + cranny within a game and collect/explore/complete them all.
Yeah, not saying itās wrong, just figured Iād drop my two cents since this decision from PG really screws over the completionists.
Depends on how you define exclusive when it comes to non-autoshow but wheelspin eligible cars, since it was the Mini X-Raid.
Going back to the first playlist after Hot Wheels dropped, both HW challenges were Super Wheelspins, but then the second week had the Hot Wheels Tee for winning the championship. That extra week ok? Still a problem for completionists who want that gold sheen on their series history (though it disappeared from some of my series history after checking them, so perhaps another bug introduced), but good for content hunters (the tee came back 7 series later).
For me itās largely the unnecessary time gate for PAID for content. Why ? What would break if they just made it all available ? Iād guess nothing. In fact I think those who donāt see the complaint wouldnāt even notice, and those who do wouldnāt be complaining and actually enjoying the game (current bugs and crashes excepted of course).
Even including the example of the Trial. Getting to the Hall of Fame level in that case doesnāt prove youāre a better driver and able to beat Unbeatable, examples of that abound every week in the Trial. It proves you have/had the time to grind (hard if you wanted that Gold completion from the start). Nothing else. So whatās the point ?
