Hanling physics feel better in hood view?

Hello. I always use cockpit view for immersion, but yesterday i switched to hood camera and the cars felt more stable! Anyone else notice this? BTW i use a Fanatec csw v2\xbox hub.

Since switching from controller to wheel, I have heaps more control of my cars switching to hood from cockpit.

However I am of the belief that it has nothing to do with the handling of the cars, but two other factors:

  1. Less obstructed view of the road. No A pillars to stop me from seeing the apex makes it much easier to place the car.

  2. Not viewing an extra pair of arms and steering wheel that do not rotate as much as I rotate my wheel. I think this was causing all sorts of errors when I was driving in cockpit view.

So while I am using my new wheel, I’ll be using hood view.

Wouldn’t this then make sense for both wheel and controller users???

By similar argument, wouldn’t this make cockpit view the worst possible view to use. Hood and Bumper would then be the preferred views and the two Chase Views would be on par with Cockpit view?

In terms of apex spotting, I think that’s the case, sure.

The steering wheels and arms however were a reasonable reference point for me using a controller. Felt fine from FM3 to FM6 until I got my wheel. Dunno, I prefer having the wheel and arms when I have the controller in my hands.

I love cockpit view as I love the extra immersion I get seeing the wheel and dash and other interior bits but I really don’t adjust well to it with a wheel.

Always get my best times with hood view,so yeah,i think you are right!! I use a wheel also!

Chase view feels like driving a remote control car!!

I’m strict cockpit, but I’ll give it a whirl to see if I agree with your findings!!!

Also bumper view would be ok if we had the FM2 style speedo and tacho in the middle of the screen. I was very fond of that view.

I believe hood gives you better control over the car due to the improved FOV and the fact that you don’t have the toy-wheel animation distracting you. Furthermore, in a game, it’s very difficult to simulate inertia, g-forces and speed from the cockpit view as it isn’t a 180 view representative of actual human vision. A tripe-screen setup will give you the best perspective from cockpit view and will improve driving a lot, unfortunately, FM6 doesn’t support that.

Due to lack of proper steering wheel animation in the cockpit view, which I think is an essential indicator of what the front tires are doing, I also find myself mostly playing the game in hood and bonnet/bumper cam. Even if I get a wheel down the line, I would tend not to use the cockpit view as it throws me off due to the FOV and severely limited wheel animation.

I agree. Hood view is better for fov and I think it gives you a better sense of speed. However I just love the immersion cockpit view gives. I think I would get better times and it would be easier to play with the hood view though.

I wish I could always use cockpit view. But there are 2 reasons why I keep switching and use a mixture of different views.

  1. You dont’ have a good overview in cockpit view. You can’t know what is going on around you, especially using a wheel (no right stick). That’s why I mainly use other views during online racing. I don’t want to get involved into accidents.

  2. Actually I’d like to ignore the reason above and to drive with cockpit view, no matter what. Cockpit view could be immersive and nice, but there’s one thing which drives me nuts:
The driver always does some nervous stuff with his hands. Every 15-20 seconds he gets his hands off the wheel to rearrange his fingers. This is never a good idea, especially when I’m taking a corner at 180 mph or when im shifting gears. It looks stupid and no-one would do this. I think they should get rid of this animation, or at least make it rare. I could deal with it if he did this every 5 minutes, instead of all the time. They never should have done this. Also it would help to be able to let the driver’s hands or even the wheel vanish, like in Project Cars. This way you would never have this double arms and double wheel effect. Sadly this game has no options on cockpitview and many other things.

It’s a preference thing, some will find they are able to go faster with a particular view. I use Bumper when hotlapping and Chase Far when in Multiplayer, and can get identical laptimes with both. Put me in Cockpit or Bonnet however and I won’t do as well.

All I know is that I’m way more fast and precise in hood view. Why? I’m more aware of the car’s behavior than in cockpit view.

Im faster in hood view over cockpit view… Online racing though I like to use the view above the car to see all the idiots around me or who are going to drill me from a blind spot…

I think it’s all preference - and our ability to interpret what you are seeing on the screen to the inputs on the controller. Hood is my preferred, then bumper, then cockpit and chase - I pretty much get worse as I progress down the list with bumper being pretty close to hood and Chase being my worst. There are times my turning is just horrible in chase (exaggerated).

I doubt there is any difference in physics or handling just the way you perceive it and imagine you can get equally as good in one or the other with practice but will find one or more views more intuitive.

So many persons have said this - but I don’t understand as you can’t see whats behind you until its too late. It does help you with side vision awareness - but for me the most popular place for me to be hit is from the rear - when the offender “forgets” to use their brakes and hood w/ rear view on I find allows me to avoid those incidents nicely and when some one goes side by side with me I do like I do in a real car - have a bit of faith and look over at them occasionally.

For me its you control the car and the car moves/pivots around YOU. Switching to hood view effectively moves your seat 6ft forward. Therefore effectively changing the pivot point giving you more car behind you. I hope I’m explaining this right the logic works in my head at least
Likewise in cockpit you have more of the car in front of YOU

Personally I find ill be hanging the rear out more in hood view. Plus I actually drive. I don’t have the ability to drive whilst sat on the hood or hovering 6ft behind it. So you just get used to it.

Although the point about 3rd personview for the sake of crashes is a valid one. Would be useful if these kids weren’t complaining about cockpit seating position and we could actually see some mirror!

I completely agree with your assessment. Although I prefer to drive with the hood view only because it’s much easier for me to judge braking for corners and to see over crests, I feel like I have far better control over the rear end of the car in cockpit view.

Cockpit and hood is all I can seem to use. I’m almost always in cockpit. For me, chase is impossible. I know most players use chase, but I can never seem to get it to work for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I really do feel a physics difference. I’ve never had fov Change the way the cars feel in any other racing game. Either way if i want to be faster i guess I’ll use hood camera.

for me, as others have said, it seems to have better sense of speed than cockpit view.
i love cockpit view, but in this game i simply have a hard time using it because of the sense of speed being slower.
