So who uses what view and do you think there’s any more/less skill involved with using certain views in game?
I use the far chase view since I like looking at my car. I’ve tried other views and they feel goofy to me. I used to use cockpit a lot but it doesn’t seem natural to me, which bugs me, so I stick with chase.
I hear bumper view is great for hotlapping because you can see the corner entry better.
As for skill, each view requires a different skill set to be able to track where other cars are. I don’t think any view comes without some trade-off.
I use chase view as well. Cockpit just seemed too awkward to me in the beginning. The fact that I kept slamming into things and breaking my windshield didn’t help either I got used to the Chase view and have no interest in anything else now. I’ve turned down several racing requests where they required you to race in cockpit view. Its just not for me.
‘Far chase’ view user here. Partly because I love looking at the livery I’ve spent hours to get right, but also because I get motion sick when in cockpit view. In chase view, you can also see the cars around you better, so since that’s almost a must in online lobbies to avoid other drivers for one reason or another, and I see no point in switching between other views so I keep it at Far chase.
I usually run cockpit unless it’s a right hand drive car or the lobby is really competitive. Then I switch to front bumper as right hand drive skews me a bit and the competitive part is because I’m a bit faster in that view.
Interesting - I always use cockpit because it feels the most real. My main gripe is my son likes to play freeplay with me and there is no cockpit view so I have been thinking of going to a different view. Might try that far chase!

I personally use bumper view, always have and when I switch to others the feeling of speed is not as intense so it feels slow to me. Cockpit is a bit of a guessing game for me but I do see A LOT of fast guys using chase view. I wondered if it was easier to be quick with that view. I can never see my paint job but I know the car looks good to others.
Keep em coming and why you think that view is good
I always use the cockpit view, just feels better for me.
Been using bumper view since the first race driver game on the original xbox. I cant do third person view it just seems to twitchy for me.
has to be cockpit for me, feels more real, the turning feels right (as from chase view it feels like an out of body experience and distant/detached from whats going on) also like seeing the inside of the car. In FM5 as well you hae the sun reflections going on etc, and some interiors are really nice like the Zonda C’s.
wheel to wheel racing gets intense too in cockpit so that adds even more fun (sure it can get tricky at tmes with blind spots, but most of the time you can kinda sense where they are, and rear view mirrors help, though sometimes they are useless and not in view).
I could never switch back to chase or bumper views, if people havent tried cockpit, i’d say give it a go, or if you have tried in the past, then give it another chance, it adds so much more to the game.
For me (this is my FM4 experience, I haven’t gotten an X1 yet)…
Cockpit: I swap between cockpit and hood the most. Cockpit helps to put me in a position where I can feel exactly what the car is gonna do, and react quickly and correctly to it. It just gives me a lot more feedback than the other views do. And I don’t know why, but I’m able to control very slippery cars almost only in this view… Without it I feel somewhat detached from the car. The only real major con is that the interior can sometimes be destracting (Spykers namely… “Ooo! Look at that dash textu–WALL!!!”) and you can’t really see other cars around you. I really would only use this online if I’m completely away from other drivers or I absolutely need to have full control over my car. Well, that, and sometimes the angle of the view itself from car to car makes the track and its surroundings a blinding white glare…
Hood: I typically run hood whenever the lighting engine on a track is too overdone and I can’t see anything but white ground surfaces in cockpit view (like at Mazda Laguna Seca), or I’m hotlapping in a car that doesn’t require too much effort to keep stable. I also run hood view the most when online because I typically can’t see the mirrors when I’m in cockpit (they also look too choppy graphics wise to be of any real use even if I can see them), and I need to be able to keep an eye on people doing stuff behind me. It also provides a very good field of view compared to cockpit. However, you sacrifice a bit of feedback and control when using this view instead of cockpit, though you can see body roll much easier (useful for soft suspension cars).
Chase: I only use the chase views in the beginning of online races so I can try to avoid contact, and when I wanna look at my car (I rarely get to see my designs on track because of this… Lol). My issue with the chase views is that because I’m not in or on the car, I have no real feel for what it’s doing. It also leads to many problems if I try to use chase view while driving an unstable car, as I’ll never notice an issue until it’s too late (I won’t catch the car starting to lose grip, I’ll only notice it once it starts to actually slide), and it’s really difficult to make minor corrections. It also gives the cars a strange “diving” feel when I try to use it while turning, as the car is already going in a direction before the camera really has a chance to catch up. Overall this view makes it very difficult for me to drive fast. I’ll manage, but I really won’t like it.
Bumper/Nose: Only used it back in FM1 when one of the two options for it was right on the tarmac for an amazing sensation of speed, and to check out the ground surface details. Utterly useless for me now.
I got carried away with typing again… Curses!
I swap between driver seat and bonnet view. I feel i have better awareness on the bonnet view, but really enjoy the drivers seat.
also, when did the drivers seat become known as a cockpit? A mig jet has a cockpit, a Ford Focus does not
Well, some of these cars are like rocket ships, so cockpit is actually somewhat fitting. I think its like Hood/Bonnet, Trunk/Boot. Its just a different term depending on where you are from.
I always try to use bumper and occassionally will switch to cockpit.
My only concern with bumper view is that you have do a bit more looking around in order to keep track of cars around you. I feel like you kind of lose sight of how big your car is pretty easily from that view. But it’s my preference to use it.
Meanwhile cockpit is great, put when if you end up with a cracked windshield… not so much. Though I feel a bit more composed and in control, that and I can better understand the cars bearing during a drift or hard corner from cockpit.
Chase view for me just because racing online I can achieve a better all around view. It’s really helpful knowing if someone is diving inside or outside of you mid corner so you can avoid contact and give them more room.
Cock pit works best for me since I don’t drive 3rd person outside my real car. I don’t think of Forza as an arcade game.
Inside works best for me since I don’t drive 3rd person outside my real car. I don’t think of Forza as an arcade game.
I would usually prefer the 1st person view, but with online racing, that’s just not a viable option. A lot of people don’t understand driving lines and where you can and can’t push up for a pass (which isn’t surprising since its a game). I stick with far chase cam but occasionally switch it up with 1st person if I’m in career. Honestly, like people say, each view has a different set of needed skills, which I think adds to the overall experience of the game.
hood view. it has good field of view while still feeling like your in the car. Most importantly it has a rear view mirror so you don’t have to keep looking back to keep and eye on what your compitition is doing.
I use cockpit view.
I can see the nose of the car and the other cars around me. I get the best sense of what the car will do from it. And nothing beats racing the indy oval in a single seater from cockpit view imo.
