Just curious what some other players prefer to use while racing.
I used the chase cam for a while but found I was over correcting on turns when I would see the car slide even the slightest, so I switched to cockpit view for a while then I thought I would try out bumper cam and have really found it to be the best option for me personally, give me a good rear view mirror and I feel like I’m putting the car where I need it to go, I wish the kinect head tracking worked a little better (or that I had the patience to set it up better) because it would be nice to simply turn my head side to side to see if I’m going to collide with another vehicle.
I use the farthest back chase cam just because its the only way to have anything close to peripheral vision. I like the cockpit and hood cams but I feel like I got horse blinders on. I want to see the cars next to me.
use the right thumb stick. your subconscious tends to follow where your head is pointed so turning your head can turn your car without you realizing it. in multiplayer just ask whoever you need creep into your blind spot where they are at, they dont want to get hit anymore than you want to hit them. they’ll tell you where they are.
and try hood view, its basically the same but you can see your hood and tell better if you have the room to get by on the inside .
i went to hood view on that update that shattered the windsheild if you so much as breathed on it. no more driving thru a spider web.
That’s probably the one problem. The blind spot, if you’re entering a corner and aren’t sure, well ME, I might cut in to get inside… which is blocking if someone was there that I didn’t know about.
It’s rare though, usually when in a crowd, you kinda ‘feel’ where people are at.
I just switched from cockpit to hood view. To much variation in cockpits of different cars with or without roll bars. Only used cockpit view since it was available, but finding the hood view more consistent.
It’s true that there’s a bit of a blind spot when using this, but you lose so much personality if you aren’t seeing the cockpit. I’d like to see some kind of “car is beside you” announcement or indicator to help with the lack of peripheral vision.
Enjoy the immersion and detail of cockpit – and used it almost exclusively in FM4; however, with FM5 I have gone to a chase cam due to the drivatars and need for peripheral vision.
I too would welcome a subtle, but evident, notification of cars in close proximity. Several other games have implemented this type of system with good results.
Cockpit cam for me, adds to the immersion which adds to the focus of driving. Just wish that when making the models they made sure the wheels didnt obscure the dials.
I use cockpit cam exclusively with the exception of races I did in career with that Audi eTron racer. Way too much tunnel vision for my taste. I had to use the close chase cam when I drove it.
Can someone please explain what the head tracking does. I have never set it up. Just use the right thumbstick to see around the car.
I choose far chase view and save cockpit views for replays. It’s easier to see the road and the other cars around me. I find some (repeat some) cockpit drivers have poor spatial awareness when passing other cars. They feel it’s safe to merge back into the driving line once the passed car leaves their view. They do it too soon and the tail end of their car won’t clear and will cause a wreck.
Cockpit for me because I like to see the car as if I am driving it - I enjoy switching to the chase just to check the car out or hear it from a different view too - if the windshield spiderwebs, I go to bumper cam.
Also using the right analog to look around and check corners works just fine most of the time, no complaints there.
I would probably do this, but I’m using a steering wheel, so as of yet, I don’t know of a good way to really know if there’s a car in my blind spots. Still, I wouldn’t give up the cockpit view for anything.
