I’d have to check with Fred to see if he remembers the exact numbers but back when I was checking garages in FM3 and FM4 for him (Never you mind why you cheaters!) the average player didn’t even remotely have an issue with the garage limit. The overwhelming majority of players never even reached more than a third full during their entire careers and the garage limits were only ever a problem for a handful of players, certainly far less than even a whole percent. Dan himself has said in an interview that the average player uses only seven cars. Seven.
While we’d all love for everyone to have all the options they could possibly ever wish for, the reality is that that isn’t possible. The garage limits exist for a reason, time to make peace with it and find an alternative collecting strategy.
Everything is possible if someone wants to achieve it bad enough. Storage limits are just that… storage limits. Of course the easy route for Turn 10 is to say “this is it, we dont change it, deal with it” Or actually the even easier route for them is what they do now and what they are so incredably good in: say nothing at all.
Cloud storage can be expanded. What if tomorrow FM6 goes on sale and thousands of new players buy it? They will need garage space in the cloud as well. It will be available for them. What if FH3 comes out? And FM7? All those players will need storage space in the cloud as well next to their already used space for FM5, FH2, FM6. So please, saying that expanding the garage storage space in FM6 to e.g. 700 is impossible is just wrong.
And let’s even assume for a second that indeed for whatever reason cloud storage space can’t be increased. There is always the option as well to save cars locally on the Xbox. Either a complete garage storage or else they could implement a stockyard like in GT6 where you could transfer cars from your garage (cloud save) to your stock yard (local save) and back. That way people don’t have to delete cars but they can transfer cars from their garage to a local storage and back.
So again… impossible? Nah, certainly not. Possibilities? Ooh yeah! It just depends how willing Turn 10 is to fix this garage limit problem.
Yours is a problem shared by a very, very, very small group of like-minded players, those who chose to play a collecting game of their own volition. Not to downplay or in any way trivialize your concerns but your problem is not necessarily Turn 10’s problem. Your problem, among the laundry list of problems raised by countless others, is, because it only affects less than 1% of the playerbase, well, statistically insignificant (Everyone with an axe to grind make sure you take this comment out of context and rush to the Twitter and book of faces to show how downtrodden and oppressed you truly are by something or whatever it is passes for conspiratorial nonsense in your fevered imaginations).
The storage limits exist for a reason. Could they be altered, quite possibly. Will they be? Not bloody likely for the current iteration of the franchise. And I don’t want to be here on the forums when it turns out garage limits were adjusted while problems that plague incredibly large swaths of the playerbase remain. I’m taking that month off and you can try explaining why it’s more important that garage limits were raised.
I’m hopeful that the garage limits, whatever they may be, will increase for future games in the franchise so this incredibly silly problem can be put to rest but in the event they don’t, the problem will likely still remain statistically insignificant as it affects less than 1% of the playerbase.
If I get to the point of being able to own every car in this game here is the strategy I will use.
Create or use a 2nd gamertag to buy and drive the cheapest cars in the game. It would not take long to build up a garage of 50-100 of the cheapest cars in the game and to do so I would have actually driven them to earn the CR to buy some more.
This leaves the 600 slots on my main account for my 600 favorite cars.
Personally I believe we should all have the opportunity of owning every car in the game. We can then choose whether to take up that opportunity or not.
At the moment we don’t have that opportunity but there are ways around it.
Or he could buy 1 Chevrolet, 1 Ford, and 1 Toyota NASCAR as the rest are all identical vehicles differing only by a livery.
I’m even sure many skilled painters who enjoy making NASCAR paints can and will be making duplicates, so you could buy 1 car and find a different paint scheme for it if you’d like.
I know the total car count is still over 600 but this takes the 24 cars in the NASCAR expansion and drops it to 3. Do the same for the Formula E, some of the Aussie V8s, and the Honda and Chevrolet Indy Cars and you’re easily within the 600 car limit.
Further on, is anything possible, Yes, but is comes at an expense. In the case of the garage limit, the expense would be the need for more storage. I think that some think that Cloud storage is this magical place with unlimited resources. This is definitely not the case. The more storage that is allocated to users also will mean more storage is needed for backups. Another ‘cost’ will be that of search time and perhaps even load times.
The reality is that every game cannot be everything to everyone… Compromises need to be made. In the case of the garage storage is has been shown that less than 1% of the players actually reach the limit so why make it possible to collect all the cars when it will come at the expense of something else. Collecting all of the cars is not one of the intended goals of this game. It has been stated over and over that there is a limit. It is not possible to own all of the cars at this poiint. This is not a bug. This is not a flaw. It is part of the game and those who have reached the garage limit now need to make choices. The game does not quit functioning as a result of not owning all the cars.
Really, this is no different from any of the other limits in the game. We are limited to the number of racers in a race. We are limited to which modifications can be made to which cars. We are limited as to which wheels can be used on which cars. We are limited to a set number of laps in a given race in Career mode and lobbies. We are limited to which views are available for use. Not all cars can be upgraded to X Class. I could go on, but my point is, there are limitations. And I am sure that there is a limitation that irritates each and every one of us to a certain extent. Mine is the lack of ability to turn off the narrators/presenters. But these are limits that I chose to accept in order to play the game. No biggie. I am sure I could find a handful of users who I could get to rally around my cause, but in the end, most users are probably not bothered by this limit, just like the 99% of users who are not bothered by the garage limit.
So in the end, you have two choices: 1)Keep bringing up the subject at every opportunity or 2) get on with life. The result in the game will be the same. The end result for those who choice to get on will life may find that they are not as stressed over this obsession.
I don’t think Turn 10 helped when before Forza 6, they added a garage metric under Forza Rewards so that we could get more free cars day 1 of Forza 6’s release.
I remember going back to old Forza games just to boost this stat up. Not sure what the limit was in those games but there was never any issue (for me) to get every car.
Perhaps now this may be an issue with the large amount of cars in Forza 6 and Turn 10 should up the limit?
However, collecting is part of the game (you don’t have to but some do), Dan mentions it time and time again, Forza is about car culture, etc. If users want to collect then so be it, understand there are limits, but at the same time, shouldn’t be telling them “too bad”, they feel its a valid concern, so they should feel free to bring it up. I will agree if doubles/triples are taking up space, then delete them. Thanks to cars having different exterior mods, you can build new cars (BMW 850 CSi - M8 Prototype), so I have doubles/triples as well.
Taking the Don Mattrick approach of “deal with it” isn’t smart, because of him X1 was almost ruined and now behind PS4 sales by at least 20 million, MS won’t release numbers, I wonder why.
Q: The response to the backlash over the Xbox One requiring an internet connection
Don: “…fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity, it’s called Xbox 360.”
Thanks for all the responses about OCD, obsession, etc. Much appreciated.
Because for me it really IS an issue of OCD and obsession. I play this game with/for my son, who is autistic. It’s one of the things we do, get all the cars in the game so he can drive them from the “my cars” garage. Now we have a new issue introduced into the game; “cannot buy car (which is free, anyway) because your garage is full”. For those of you who don’t have autistic family members or friends, be glad you are not subject to the OCD issues that come with that. For those of you who DO have autistic family members or friends who have these OCD issues, you fully understand.
It may not be an issue if I can remove some cars from my garage which I have duplicates of (even if I have to get rid of my VIP gift cars, etc.) I have very few true “doubles” of cars with a few exceptions like the P1 or certain Vipers, or Vettes.
I’ve never tried to remove a car from my garage and get rid of it. Is that possible? Can it be done? I might be able to make it work that way. Between the various “Rivals” Lamborghinis I’ve won among other cars (where I have the regulars) I’m sure I can clear up the garage enough to add the NASCAR cars, and still allow him to have all of the cars in the game.
Thanks for the help and for understanding my issue (for those of you who care).
Oh come on! Not one person in here is making fun of your situation or your son. OCD and autism are very real and I am sure all our members here are sensitive about subjects like that. But at the end of the day it is a game and the game has it’s limits. Being an adult you should know how to get around adversities (if you can call a game garage limit an adversity) and in this case it is to remove cars. There are much more glaring issues T10 will need to address but it is doubtful they will be in F6. Sorry I can’t share the feelings you have on the garage limit’s just like I am sure you can’t share my disappointment that the E36 M3 no longer has the option to add the BMW Motorsports front splitter and rear wing ala the M3 Lightweight or the fact that the 997.1 GT3 RS isn’t in the game. I posted that in the wishlist thread a few years back and that’s that. Sitting here obsessing about it will not change anything., T10 does what they do for reasons that they know, and they do a frigging great job too. I do not believe they do anything that disenfranchises it’s faithful fans. We as consumers just have to deal with the product we get.
As I stated in my previous comment, the only answer, At This Time, is to remove enough cars from your garage to make room for your NASCAR cars.
I like to believe that Turn 10 considers issues like this carefully, and prioritizes them accordingly. If they believe it can be done efficiently, without compromising something else and without creating bugs, I believe they will adjust it. If the garage limit was tied to some other significant part of the game, or cloud storage has to be re negotiated, they may not even consider it.
I could easily remove 100 cars from my garage right now. They would mostly be the smaller street cars and SUV’s that I would rarely use. They would all be very low cost cars that could easily be replaced without making much of an impact on my credits. I have not had to do that yet, because I have only owned the game for about 3 months, but it will happen, just like it did in FM3 and FM4.
I hope some of the information you got in this thread was helpful, and you can make enough room, without losing any of your core cars.
Best of luck to you and your son.
OP just had a question and the answer is - yes you can get rid of cars in your garage. Just get in a car that you will keep, then go to your garage, click (A button) on the car you wish to get rid of and you will get the option to sell or remove it. Most cars you can sell for credits, but some like the T10 gifted cars, VIP cars etc. you can only remove.
I was fully aware of the garage limit when I bought the NASCAR expansion. I checked by garage. I had 576 cars. I bought the expansion. I now have the limit of 600 cars. No problem.
I know I have to clean out my garage a little. I do have a couple duplicate cars due to VIP gifting. I can clean out a few of the Indy cars and the Formula E cars. I have all the DLC except the Hot Wheels. Once the garage is cleared out a little, I will have room for the Hot Wheels DLC.
I’ve been debating on getting rid of inexpensive cars I don’t drive and lowering by garage size to about 590. This way I could always repurchase one of the cars without breaking the bank (sarcasm) and I’d have room for the next DLC.
I am learning to live within the limits of the game. I don’t like it. I think there should be enough room in the garage to hold all the cars in the game. There is definitely no problem of earning enough credits to buy all the cars. This was not the way it was in FM3 or FM4. That is why the garage limit was not as big an issue.
So about this 1%… where is this coming from? Was that in previous Forza titles where money wasn’t so easy to obtain? Not a correct comparison then. And do they look at the amount of players exactly AT the cap? I now have 595 cars in my garage but I consider myself at the cap because buying a DLC pack would push me against the cap. Do my 595 cars count towards that 1% as well or not?
Still so very silly to argue about this. There are obviously people who like collecting cars in this “car culture” game and for us it sure is a big deal we can’t have every car even once in our garage! For people who don’t care about it and just want the top 50 leaderboard cars in their garage, the least you can do is to acknowledge the problem and move on. The situation IS one big joke and it sure should be dealt with soon. With each future DLC more and more people will run against the cap and this WILL affect sales for sure. If people are doubting to buy a DLC pack, well having a full garage sure can tip the decision towards a no. The question won’t be anymore if a person wants to add 7 new cars to his garage or not, the question will also be which 7 cars he wants to delete (if any at all).
Perhaps it’s just a matter of perspective. Unicorns, DLC, VIP, gifted cars etc I full understand people wanting to keep. But the standard cars that are available to everyone aren’t something I see as “collecting”. You can move these in and out of your “garage” any time you want for just a few credits. To make space for cars that aren’t available to every player surely you just clear a few inexpensive cars that you don’t use in game but can get whenever you want. Everyone has these standard cars anyway it’s just that they aren’t ready to race until you “buy” them.
If you think about it that way it takes the pressure off
Storage? C’mon, we pay for overpriced DLC’s and Expansion Packs (like NASCAR) so we could expect Turn 10 to get more servers to store our cars and settings in cloud. It’s not even the cars, they only need to save the information (which car, which setting, which livery, screenshots, game settings, carrer progress). The main part of the data volume is on our Xbox’s hard drives.
Probably the real idead behind the limitation is thet they want us to buy and sell cars (for half price) more often, so we potentially spend more tokens when we’re outta credits.
The new Forza money-greed policy is a p. i. t. a.
I’m tired of this, most likely this is my last forza.
The CLOUD and having the saves there is a requirement by Microsoft and they own the servers these saves are stored on. Not only that, but they impose certain restrictions on the save files (like how big they are), and given the variety of things that are included in a Forza save those limits are very much a problem. The only realistic solution is that T10 improve their save coding, but like so many things that is not likely to ever be improved much, let alone fixed.
