I still suspect that some of their promo images & videos have been from a custom internal build of the game, and/or possibly running on custom hardware that differs from consumer setups, and/or possibly edited/polished outside of the game.
…In other words: misleadingly not representative of what consumers can expect to see in their own gameplay (bait-&-switch).
Ray Tracing on track in gameplay isn’t the same as ray traced global illumination. On quality mode on series X there is ray tracing on track, however, it’s in the form of a few reflections on the track and RTAO on the track. I’m not trying to defend Chris, but he never did promise RTGI in gameplay. If you just watch a little past 10:40, chris says ray traced global illumination will only be in “non gameplay” or replays, homespace, and maybe some other places, but not in on track gameplay. So yes, Chris did break his promise about it being in replays and the homespace, but he never made a promise about it being in gameplay; in fact, he said the contrary.
He’s just listing it as one of the technologies used, again, he never said it would be in gameplay. He said you could see some of it in the trailer, emphasis on the word “trailer” which is mostly replays.
Again you didn’t clearly listen to what he says on the video I’m gonna copy : “Ray tracing it’s here, on track and most importantly on gameplay, we are not trying to mislead you here, when you are racing when you are playing the game ray tracing is ON”. Don’t you understand?
listen please open the link
He’s talking about Ray traced reflections and ray traced ambient occlusion, which are both in the game. Again, I was speculating about there not being RTGI in gameplay in the old build, so don’t take anything I say too seriously. Honestly we can’t really confirm anything unless there is somebody here who is actually able to spot RTGI with their eyeballs.
It’s not taking what you say seriously it’s about listening other people’s opinions, but know what we are saying. Of course we can speculate and judge but this game since day one release is a let down we NEVER EVER got such a bad launch and bad game in Forza history! The amount of features that they removed surpasses the number 30 maybe more. Good things that were fine in previous Forza they removed and not implemented yet and some will never return. For example this:
When buying a car you could watch the whole car itself and look around, now you just get an image. Even Gran Turismo does this showroom thing like FM7. Of course i want this game makes the best comeback possible because I’m a Forza fan since 2005 ! If they are not launching a new Forza in next year’s they better rework this one out from “the ground up”
I totally agree, we’ve got tons of missing features and content. I almost feel like the devs were doing only a little bit of work each month for a long time, but recently they’ve listened to some feedback and stepped up their game. Tbh there was so much content in fm7 and added to fh5 that it may take more than a year or two for FM to catch up. Obviously recycled content as reward cars was a bad idea, and even getting an entire month of only recycled cars, even if they are just spotlight cars, is very boring. They could bring back cars we haven’t seen for a long time, and like they have recently, bring in new to forza cars.
At least if the game was really good on graphics and physics maybe we would not complain that much about features and content because of the hard work that they had put in making it the best looking car game and the one with best feeling while driving it. We would wait patiently for the content that would come later one but we would know that was good content either brand new cars with top notch graphics and driving physics…
Of they said it’s “on track” meaning not only as photo op.
You can even see front image of Forza Monthly Jan 2023 how that Porsche has almost satin hood, but front of hood and under is full gloss.
- you can see that finish is off
- they cannot even get the lighting in photo mode right
It’s fully understood they have been talking about on track RT, not like GT7 had on replay.
- they really thought Series X would have capacity to do it realtime on track
- and they did try, but something in lighting model is off and they have said “mirrorlike surfaces” will be raytraced. So they reduced where it could be done since satin surfaces or close to are really cpu heavy to do.
If it were in replays there is no need to reduce where it is applied.
But not even promotion material is looking good!!!
- no excuse there lighting is off
- those picking pics for front like FM Jan 2023 don’t react and are blind for these details, it seems to me.
- how they pick which surfaces to apply rt on is wrong
I suspect the new lighting model to handle ever changing time of day and lighting and stuff is to blame.
- they overdid everything that were to be on this release of FM
RTGI is finally coming. While not the only downgrade, it’s certainly the biggest, so I’m happy to see it finally make it’s way to the vanilla game.
I think we’re really close to how the game looked in pre-release materials now.
Still needs some work. Shader quality is not there yet, need HQ textures and the overall level of detail on also could be increased.
But really happy to see them still supporting the game. Kudos to the team!
*This PC-only upgrade
Maybe to optimise for consoles later on. Or not)
That would be crap for the Series x to not get it. Its meant to be the most powerful console but GTA6 is gonna be more graphically advanced and glabal illumination. RDR2 got Global illumination on xbox one, so if massive open world games can do it even on previous gen consoles. Im no expert but FM can acheive it
Two very different processes you’re comparing. There are many ways to achieve global illumination in a game. Up until the current generation, most games employed some sort of precomputed solution, i.e., the effect was NOT generated in real time. What we’re talking about with Forza Motorsport in this thread, is real-time (rendered on the fly, not pre-computed), raytraced global illumination, which the last-gen Xbox One could not possibly have employed.
Looks great. Hopefully they can get something on the XBox. At least Series X.
If memory serves, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora does RTGI on Xbox, even on my Series S. It’s slow, and I can see it calculating out the scene sometimes.
No idea if they have any hope to fit that into the performance headroom the Forza engine is running on XBox, though.
Who was the previous Art Director on the FM23?
