seeing posts about this on Twitter.

"Forza Motorsport 6 is coming to PC Windows 10 as a free to play title. The game will be a slimmed down version called Forza Motorsport 6: Apex according to a post on Reddit.

The post indicates that at a media event last week in San Francisco, Microsoft focused on the extension of Xbox Live to PC Windows 10. This Apex version was announced amongst also trying to expand the Xbox Live to all platforms including mobile. This Apex version will also show off the gaming potential of Windows 10 to developers. During the event, Phil Spencer was quoted as saying “The logical extension for us is from television to expanding to television and PC,” Spencer said in an interview. “In the long run, we want Xbox Live to be anywhere somebody wants to play.”

With such a large PC gaming community, it makes one wonder why Microsoft would release a “dumbed down” version of their most successful racing franchise as it would most likely sell well. What are your thoughts this Apex version of a game for Windows 10? Let us know below."

Because there isn’t a huge PC audience for racing games. The Forza games sell 1.5+ million each on Xbox. The best selling PC version of a racing game that’s comparable to Forza is PCars with 370.000 owners on Steam. It makes little sense to alienate your existing million selling platform for a worse one.

PCars is poor compared to Forza, perhaps that is why. Poor gameplay, poor presentation, and lacking in content. There is no Forza or GT quality racing game on the PC.

Game sales on Xbox include bundles. FM6 has dropped to 1.3 million copies, FM5 2.1, FM4 4.6, FM3 5.5…looks to me like the audience is dwindling and doing so rapidly. Take out your bundles and those numbers drop even more. Also, PCARS on PC and Forza aren’t really similar. PCARS devs were openly insulting people on their forums and released an unfinished, garbage product.

@PJ - no way.

In that case, not interested.

lol how would he know. jsut wait till it is released to find out how it will work. you might be surprised

Its not ruled out, there is no information to say either way. It will still use Xbox live.

It’s insane to see the amount of backlash on the PC news, I see it as growth, especially for the franchise as a whole. I don’t see how the community is assuming they are ‘alienating’ or abandoning the Xbox platform, the news isn’t even official at this point! Simulation racers LIVE on the PC, the community around that is undeniable, the market can be tapped for sure. If they are releasing a free to play version (which seems likely), I assume that comes from above T10, to get this whole Win 10 movement Microsoft wants to start, and I’m all for it.

There is nothing like Forza or GT on PC.

They would have that market all to themselves. And worse platform? PC is the biggest gaming platform. It makes no business sense to not include it.
Race Room Experience has 2.4 million owners (being F2P)

And it looks it’s only on Windows 10 as well, which is a shame since most of pc gamers are still on Windows 7 because it’s literally the best option for gaming.

DX12 is only available in Win10…

What are you talking about? I game on windows 10 and haven’t had a single issue with any games. I can’t wait to see what my 4790k and 980ti can do with Forza 6.

Steam stats show windows 10 getting ready to overtake windows 7. That doesn’t sound like the definition of ‘most’. Even if we include 32bit copies it’s still a pretty even split considering 10 has only been out for 8 months now.

Windows 7 64 bit
34.31%
-0.50%

Windows 10 64 bit
32.77%
+1.52%

Can you point to where this fact is located?
Your opinion is certainly not fact.Imo and many others that have made the switch windows 10 trumps all previos microsoft os on every level. No idea where or why you would say that.

Overall market share:

Steam breakdown (more gaming focused marketshare):

So, even for steam users, Win7 still represents a slim majority (about 42% to 35% Win10)

Win 10 has many issues IMHO, chief among them, it’s propensity to phone home with data to mama Microsoft.

Does everyone just use the word literally when they’re trying to impress their own, often incorrect, opinion? That is not the meaning of the word and is in no way the right way to use it. And on top of all that, Windows 10 bests Windows 7, no matter what you’re using it for. And how would I know… Because I’ve owned an IT company for 22 years, and I’ve been a gamer for 38.
