APEX FAQ: HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
Will Apex run on AMD systems?
Yes - There is no Intel-only requirement; processors that have the equivalent number of cores and processing speed as in the above chart will perform similarly.
Make sure your system is ready
Windows 10 64-bit and Direct X version 12 are required in addition to the minimum hardware and 30GB drive space.
- Find your system specs: Windows key + R > dxdiag + Enter (see support.xbox.com)
- Update your Windows 10 software and drivers: Windows key > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update (s)
- Install the most recent video card driver for your system (see below)
- Set your app installation drive in Start > Settings > Storage > Save Locations (see below)
- Ready to Install the Xbox App and Forza Hub app for Windows 10 and Apex app from the Windows Store (see below)

Download and Install

Can I choose the install location?
Before downloading Apex, connect your preferred physical internal or external drive to your PC (the destination cannot be a different mapped drive on your C disk). Then to set the destination drive for Win10 apps, press Start > Settings > System > Storage > Save Locations > New apps will be saved to: and set your destination drive. Then download and install Apex. Otherwise, the default is to save to C:LocalAppData\Packages.
Is Xbox Live Gold Membership required to play Apex?
You must have a Microsoft account to play Apex but the Xbox Support FAQ does not mention Gold.
Is an active internet connection required to play Apex?
“You’ll need to sign in to the Xbox Live service via the Xbox app when you launch Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. Once successfully connected, you can continue to play offline as long as you’re signed in to the Xbox app. If you play offline, some features, such as the ability to purchase additional items from the Windows Store, will not be available. Additionally, any leaderboards will be unavailable while you’re offline.” (s)
Does Apex require or support Kinect functionality?
No.
Is a wheel controller required, beneficial, or supported by Apex?
- Apex won’t have wheel support at launch, but: “As development continues, players can expect to see updates and improvements to the game. For example, wheel support is coming to Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and Turn 10 is busy working to ensure that Apex delivers the kind of wheel support, performance, and features that racing fans expect from a range of available hardware. In addition we plan to support additional features that we know are important to PC gamers, such as the ability to disable Vsync and an in-app framerate counter.” (s) | (s) | (s)
- Wheel controllers are not required for Forza even when they are supported, and many of the world’s top Forza drivers are just as comfortable or more comfortable using the standard Xbox One Controller or Elite Controller. In the driver Assists menu, Simulation Steering is designed for wheel users.
Does Apex support pedals and shifters?
Unlikely given the lack of wheel support.
Does Apex support the Xbox Elite controller functions or third party brand controllers?
Download the Xbox Accessories app from the Windows Store to configure the Xbox Elite controller.

Xbox App for Windows 10
You can download the Xbox App from the Windows Store. “The Xbox app brings together your friends, games, and accomplishments across Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. Stay connected to the Xbox Live community, see what your friends are playing, share game clips and screenshots, and view achievements across devices. Start party chats, launch into cross-device multiplayer with games like Fable Legends and Gigantic, and stream your favorite games from Xbox One to any Windows 10 PC in your home while using your Xbox One controller.” (s)
