Forza Horizon's car roster has been on a downward spiral

I’d say passenger cars could be bought on the back of a game. If there’s a bunch of cars and you are spoilt for a choice, a car that you played on a game, might be the car you choose. That’s not that implausible.

Supercars/hypercars less directly so. But those cars appearing does get more people talking about the brand.

If they ever did add daily drivers back, I feel like they would make more sense for Motorsport than Horizon because track games are really the only ones in the genre to include such cars. Even old Black Box era Need for Speed games usually started you out in a slow hot hatch or sports car that was sporty enough to not be classified as your typical daily driver.

oh yes those things realy happen

Media marketing isn’t new, product placement in movies has been a thing since the '70s. How many JDM FanBois couldn’t wait to get their hands on a Skyline because of Gran Turismo? Fast and Furious? Only to find out the company “legalizing” them for the US was one big scam and hundreds of R34s got crushed. Why did Black Panthaaaaaaa buy a R34? Was he influenced by the games he played? I would bet yes…

May be more so due to the movie industry than video games. But both raise good points.

While there might be some influence I doubt there is enough to attract advertising money to invest in video game sponsorship. Or if there is then the game companies aren’t going about it in the proper manner.

Maybe Forza isn’t going about it correctly, but games like GT have a pretty good handle on it. Exclusive rights to certain manufacturers, A license with Hagarty insurance for the “special” cars. It’s there, just not planned out the same in each game.

I agree with every part of this post. It’s really sad at this point. This game has gone into a downward spiral. And PGG does NOT care. As long as they get their 10 million casual gamers who don’t care if they put out complete worthless garbage, they’re happy. As for the last time I was genuinely cheering when a car got added to Forza, it was probably the Jesko in FH4. I’m not buying FH6. Screw them. This is the last straw for me. If they’re gonna keep being lazy, I won’t buy their games. They don’t deserve my $100 anymore.

The thing is there’s plenty of models the playerbase has been begging for that are in older Forza games.

Two prominent cars I want in the game where most of the community agrees with me are the Lamborghini Murcielago and the Lexus IS300. I want these cars, the players want these cars, I see them all the time on people wishlists.

Not only are these cars under prominent brands who are very familiar with Forza, they’ve ALREADY BEEN PUT INTO FORZA GAMES.

Look, I hate old recycled models. But seriously why can’t they just touch-up the old Murcielago and IS300 models like they did with the 22B and add them to the game? They’ve been liscensed before, they probably could easily be liscensed again. Heck, they might not even need to be licensed since Forza already has the rights to use Lamborghini and Lexus. Where are they?

I get the chances of the obscure models like the Honda Orithia have basically no chance of ever being added. But it’s like even the most popular, requested models that aren’t either modern or high-end are easily ignored.

Some wishlists are longer than the games.

962 Porsche and FTO were heavily requested cars. I will happily trade out one V12 Dorito for those two.

Oh, they do an awesome job of ignoring the modern stuff, too. There’s a Looney Tunes gag scroll worth of cars, high end and entry level, that have never seen the light of any Forza game because the developers, PGG in particular, are far too concerned with making sure you can see the lock cylinder on whatever meme car they’ve been eyeing up.

I was hyped for the new RS4 Avant and it made it in the game. Probably my farvorite car right now.

I’am not a huge fan of all this extrem hypercars. The fastest car I drive in races is going to be some S1 911. Most of the time I drive A or B class…
Many of these cars in this class are more civilized or just older cars from late 90’s early 2000.

I would like to see the missing italian cars and more customisations instead of some crappy fantasy Hotwheels.

Again: every car has to be licensed for every game, regardless of its past game history. Every car has to be rebalanced for each new game regardless of its base game history because ongoing work with the underlying Forzatech engine affects physics, lighting, audio, car functions, car perks and value. And every car has to be analyzed in the context of the entire game design; when the game design indicates that other models should be a higher priority, previous game cars may be delayed even if they reappear. The way Forza develops its games is also independent of other games and brands, so making comparisons is not apples to apples.

We understand every player has their own passions about which cars they want and think should be in the game, but game development is more complex than what you are suggesting.

The lack of actual “NEW” cars is the issue. There was a laundry list of new sports cars or other interesting cars Ive had in my head ive wanted to play in Forza since around 2020. That list has only grown. And only a very very small few have shown up, A few ferraris, Technically a porsche but the wrong type since PG cant be arsed to add a “remove wing” option to give us the actually interesting version of the new GT3, and the BMWSupra.
Few old cars would be nice, OG Veyron, OG 2010 Camaro SS.
But a lot of the released cars are a hit and miss, A new trim for a Lexus ISF, A new trim for the 370Z, A new entry in the “This is a Mclaren flagship” car line that all looks the same and I couldnt identify after the P1.

Here’s my issue with this. It’s an issue that I’m certain many others here have. And no matter how you or anyone else choose to interpret my words, at the end of the day, someone has to question the editorial choices of this team (for lack of a better descriptive term).

Every car has to be licensed, balanced/rebalanced, analyzed, so on and so forth. If that’s the case, why are we getting repeats? Why are we being drip-fed cars that, perhaps more than any other Horizon to date and arguably more than any other racing game to date, well and truly should have been in the game Day 1, free of constraint? Why are these cars, new and returning, timegated and then vaulted until PGG decides they’re bored and want to dangle those carrots again? Back in Horizon 4 when PGG instituted this godforsaken Playlist mess, they did so in such a stringent manner that anyone who missed a single daily challenge missed out on the final prize - which in that instance was the Capri FE, a prize rendered unobtainable afterward unless you completed all of the later-introduced Star Cards; a simple enough task until you realize that one of the cards is effectively tied to social media. Not a major influencer or don’t have the photographic eye of Annie Leibovitz? Well, sucks to be you.

My second point of contention: the choices of cars that end up in this game. Who asked for the Wuling? How about the Extreme E car? I love Porsche 911s, but was it really necessary to put the Speedster in the Car Pass, or in the game at all? I love Aston Martins. But the DBX is entirely unnecessary. Why is it here? Do you see where I’m going with this? You say that you understand, and you continually point us to the car wishlist. Then you (meaning PGG and Turn 10) make car choices that don’t just go against your previous words, but make everyone wonder why. And then they look at other games that do have the choices that make sense, and the puzzlement deepens (and hang on, we’re going to address that bit in a moment). There are cars that have been repeatedly requested that, frankly, will never see the light of day in any Forza. There are cars in the lineup that have been updated in reality several times over, yet their digital avatars remain in a time capsule of indifference. This whole EV update seems to be a particularly blown chance, given the genuine plethora of EVs that could have made it in - like the Audi E-Tron GT, for instance. So, do you see now how when you tell us you’re listening and you’re taking that into consideration…we don’t particularly believe you?

My final point: Forza may be developed independently of other brands, but it’s not developed in a vacuum - regardless of how much the current state of choice for racing games on the XBox may suggest otherwise (and if anything, that makes things worse). You’re on top until you’re not, and when you continually make questionable and honestly careless design choices, people are going to wise up and look elsewhere. And that’s something I really hope Turn 10 figures out for Motorsport, sharpish and quite clearly. Because eventually, you’re going to hit the point where people start reevaluating things, and all that’ll be left are the casuals. And if you think you have issues now…

Licensing doesn’t last “forever”, and maybe they want to spend money licensing NEW cars, not old cars from the game 5 years ago?

It’s all about money for licensing things, and they have to make cuts to something in that budget when say, that fancy new Ferrari or Lambo you adore gets released, right? Be patient… they are releasing more cars.

…and some of the new stuff I’ve seen at Goodwood this year alone - I don’t give a eff about some old fords they had in the game before.

Goodwood sucked this year though.

I do find it funny that some people think that each car is individually licensed for each game. If you see a large number of cars in game from a particular manufacturer, the negotiations were for the group, not each car. PGG/T10 have their eyes on certain cars, so they negotiate with that “list” in mind.

What makes me the most disappointed is they went to Dodge, who holds the rights for Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler/Jeep/American Motors/Eagle, and only came away with a handful of cars. Multiple variations of the same Challenger/Charger/Durango, a couple of Jeeps, A Gremlin and that’s about it. They didn’t “renegotiate” for anything “new”. Maybe we will see some return (The Machine, Javelin, Hornet, Coronet WO23, or even “Christine”). But some of the most iconic cars from that group of owned licenses are, and have been M.I.A. in Forza, while showing up in other games. It’s not that they can’t get said licenses, they don’t want them.

The downward spiral is not helped with the missing Alfa Romeo and Lancia roster……don’t miss Abarth that much. I understand licensing aspects….very disappointing none the less.

The car roster has improved over the course of the game, don’t get me wrong but still needs work. Too many missing cars from horizon 4 still.

I really, really want the Plymouth Fury and AMC Rebel Machine to return. Those are my two favorite cars in FH4.

At this point, I’m calling bull on the licenses. Both Gran Turismo 7 and GRID Legends had Alfa and Lancia at launch, and they both came out after Horizon 5. Either they have better licensing deals that predated this alleged restructuring, or Playground got chintzy with the licensing budget for the cars this time around. Or, better yet, they probably decided to hold both manufacturers as well as Fiat and Abarth at ransom behind the Festival Playlist further down the line. After all, that’s easily two months worth of “new” content, especially if they added some of the Alfas from Motorsport 7 and some of the Fiats cut from Horizon 4.
