Here’s my issue with this. It’s an issue that I’m certain many others here have. And no matter how you or anyone else choose to interpret my words, at the end of the day, someone has to question the editorial choices of this team (for lack of a better descriptive term).
Every car has to be licensed, balanced/rebalanced, analyzed, so on and so forth. If that’s the case, why are we getting repeats? Why are we being drip-fed cars that, perhaps more than any other Horizon to date and arguably more than any other racing game to date, well and truly should have been in the game Day 1, free of constraint? Why are these cars, new and returning, timegated and then vaulted until PGG decides they’re bored and want to dangle those carrots again? Back in Horizon 4 when PGG instituted this godforsaken Playlist mess, they did so in such a stringent manner that anyone who missed a single daily challenge missed out on the final prize - which in that instance was the Capri FE, a prize rendered unobtainable afterward unless you completed all of the later-introduced Star Cards; a simple enough task until you realize that one of the cards is effectively tied to social media. Not a major influencer or don’t have the photographic eye of Annie Leibovitz? Well, sucks to be you.
My second point of contention: the choices of cars that end up in this game. Who asked for the Wuling? How about the Extreme E car? I love Porsche 911s, but was it really necessary to put the Speedster in the Car Pass, or in the game at all? I love Aston Martins. But the DBX is entirely unnecessary. Why is it here? Do you see where I’m going with this? You say that you understand, and you continually point us to the car wishlist. Then you (meaning PGG and Turn 10) make car choices that don’t just go against your previous words, but make everyone wonder why. And then they look at other games that do have the choices that make sense, and the puzzlement deepens (and hang on, we’re going to address that bit in a moment). There are cars that have been repeatedly requested that, frankly, will never see the light of day in any Forza. There are cars in the lineup that have been updated in reality several times over, yet their digital avatars remain in a time capsule of indifference. This whole EV update seems to be a particularly blown chance, given the genuine plethora of EVs that could have made it in - like the Audi E-Tron GT, for instance. So, do you see now how when you tell us you’re listening and you’re taking that into consideration…we don’t particularly believe you?
My final point: Forza may be developed independently of other brands, but it’s not developed in a vacuum - regardless of how much the current state of choice for racing games on the XBox may suggest otherwise (and if anything, that makes things worse). You’re on top until you’re not, and when you continually make questionable and honestly careless design choices, people are going to wise up and look elsewhere. And that’s something I really hope Turn 10 figures out for Motorsport, sharpish and quite clearly. Because eventually, you’re going to hit the point where people start reevaluating things, and all that’ll be left are the casuals. And if you think you have issues now…
