Forza Horizon 1 is a fantastic game

I finally managed to beat the game after getting it along with my first xbox console a couple of weeks ago and it was a total blast to play through. The game is simply fantastic, it reminds me quite a lot of dirt 2. From the menus, the style, the personalities, thre presentation and the races and everything just reeks of dirt 2. Which is a great thing. The game looks awesome aswell, it’s nearly 5 year old game nad it holds up quite nicely, just like dirt 2.

As I said the game is great, I even managed to get a 100% completition, apart from the last barn find that I can’t seem to get a hint for. I know where the last barn is, but its doors are locked.
It’s a shame, been roaming the map for quite some time, but the hint never popped up. One disappointing fact is that the devs stopped supporting the game and basically shut down the whole store for it. You can’t even buy the season pass cars or the expansion for it, which is really disappointing, I would love to extend the play time by getting both of those, especially the season pass, there are quite a few nice cars I’d like to have in my garage. Oh well.

I started playing the game a few days ago as well. I bought the limited edition and I actually managed to activate my DLC codes on PC (though weirdly enough I had to switch my region to US for the codes to work) but getting the download in game is a different business. It seems to be that the Horizon servers are down for the most part but I did manage to download one of the DLCs but not the other. I managed to download it by going to the car lot and trying to buy a DLC car but some of them that were part of a different pack weren’t available.

The expansion (the rally one I think) is probably impossible to access even if you had a code because the menu doesn’t even let you access that option. It sucks that they pulled most of the support from this game including the big picture feature which allowed you to take 4K pictures in-game. Strangely enough this feature still works in FM4, which is an older game. I wish both games still supported this since none of the newer games have this feature. The 4K pics simply look stunning even for an old game like FM4.

I’m also completing the game 100%. I’m currently at 73% and I managed to get all of the collectibles except for 2 of the barn finds. At one point I was stuck on 99 discount signs and couldn’t figure out which one it was that was missing while looking at online maps (you can’t buy more tokens to unlock the locations of all collectibles; I have 3 since I bought the limited edition and activated the codes). But then I figured it had to have been near one of the speed traps that I didn’t complete and I managed to find it thankfully.

I’m really looking forward to the other games in the series. I have so far achieved 100% completion on FM1, FM2, and FM3. FM4 and Horizon 1 are works in progress. As soon as I get my One X in November I will do the rest of the games in the series (though I look forward to playing FM7 and Horizon 3 on PC).

Yes it’s awesome. Some people find it better than Forza Horizon 2.
I don’t know about dirt 2 though to compare.

About the barn, are you playing with the radio on? Try to roam around, try to get better in some leaderboards or doing the medals of the 1000 club and the hint should appear.

I really doubt that it is better than Horizon 2. Maybe it does some things better but it has some major flaws.

I just managed to get 100% on this game: http://i.imgur.com/CAxSlcH.jpg
My general opinion of the game has shifted pretty dramatically the more I played it. The major flaws this game has have everything to do with the AI. I get that this game is not meant to have realistic AI of the sort that FM4 had but the game runs on more or less the same engine, so it seems like a waste to just revamp the AI and make it worse. Where do I begin. Well, the Rivals races are atrocious a lot of the time. Keep in mind that I am playing the game on Medium because I want the game to give me a challenge as opposed to being too easy. The Rivals races are either easy, OK, or unfair. There is no balance in the difficulty. You get the best car for the track but you still end up losing because the ghost player apparently hasn’t made any mistakes during his lap (which begs the question, in which way is the game running on “medium” then?) so you’re also not allowed to hit anything. Even a tiny mistake can decide the fate of your lap against the ghost player. I used to do all of these rivals races in the beginning but then I just got bored and decided to skip them altogether since they don’t count toward 100%.

There were at least 2 main story races that seemed impossible to me on medium and I have (at this point) several years of experience playing these games. The motorsport games seem a lot easier on Medium or above in comparison to this game. One of the races was early on, on one of those small tracks that have a lot of turns and at least 3 laps. I just could not catch up with the top guy even though I had a good car or perhaps even better than his. And you always start races in last place or close to that which is stupid on its own (it should be random). At that point I had to switch on Easy because I was wasting in excess of half an hour on a 6 minute race. The other race that I found super frustrating, so frustrating to the point where I always smashed my gamepad and Xbox, was the very last race in the game. The second one in the Horizon finale. I had the F40 that was class R1 and pretty much the fastest car in the game I think and it actually had very responsive handling. He has a different Ferrari but on medium you’re really not allowed to make major mistakes during the race even though the AI makes mistakes too. The problem is that he doesn’t make his mistakes at the same time as you so he catches up quickly and since you’re racing in super fast cars he’s always driving max speed. So you’re forced to floor it as well but that makes you make a lot of mistakes since the track is 8-9 minutes long and thus the probability of crashing several times shoots up to 99% (unless you are as skilled as the terminator AI in this game). I gave up and switched to easy again for the sake of my sanity.

My conclusion is that the AI in this game is terrible. Not all of the time but what’s the point of playing on medium with inconsistent AI like that? The Motorsport games (especially 3 and 4) are much more consistent.

Well, Horizon 2 was made with the Xbox One capabilities in mind. So Drivatars and online are there. If some people think it’s not better, it’s their opinion. I can assure the radio is terrible in Horizon 2. You will think, oh well how they managed to ruin the radio like this… But yeah, they’re still preferences and it’s not possible to just consider 2 better because it was made two years later.
If you play the Xbox 360 version you should not compare with the Xbox One version, so think about an expansion for the first game instead. Because such capabilities are not present.

Rivals, I think you are missing the point a bit? Rivals are lap times saved by people, using rewind because this is not Motorsport and they can just try and try several times. What AI have to do with Rivals? Rivals are lap times. The ghost matches the lap time. There’s no difficulty involved.
You can also choose your Rival from the list.
Sometimes the matchmaking does a mistake of picking a friend who used another Class and gives you an impossible chance, yes, but this is not difficulty related, it’s a lap time.
I think perhaps you are talking about other thing, not Rivals.

Some races in the main event are difficult, yes. Somehow I have a friend who gave up against the off road star, Ramona I think. I told him I find the other girl the hardest, Holly, her races are harder than the last guy Darius.
The last race I found very easy with the F40-some-racing-version I forgot the name. Darius was so behind… =P

I’m looking forward to hear your opinion about the Drivatars when you get the Xbox One heehee
