Seriously, try downloading any random free app from the Windows store, or reset both the windows store and Xbox apps from the apps menu in settings, or open a command prompt with admin rights, type wsreset.exe then hit return. These are usually the quickest fixes. Unfortunately my hard drive is full of random free apps now because I keep forgetting to uninstall the blooming things!!!
Updated my Windows to 1709 (Fall Creators Update) and had to do a full system reinstall to install the damn update and now even the windows weather app doesn’t work. Reinstalled FM7 from scratch as well and nope, doesn’t work. Tried wsreset, some powershell script and even the store troubleshooter and none worked. Same thing every single time Windows gets a major update!
This keeps happening to me randomly after updates, you could try logging in and out of the MS store/Xbox app or downloading and uninstalling a free app from the app store. These are some things people say works, however, they have not worked for me …
Check your events logs so you have some idea what may be going on. You guys don’t even bother to check. Part of being a PC gamer is learning how to troubleshoot. I never had the game not start on my PC ever not H3 not F7 and it is updated and working fine. PC has the latest public build as well as both H3 and F7. I even due to an unrelated problem installed a preview build, rolled it back and still the Forza games start fine.
This seems to be a common problem that a user found by looking in the event log yesterday. To get to these logs type Computer Management into the search. Expand windows logs like I did in the screenshot. Check system and application logs for any errors related to Forza/Apollo Game base
"Unable to start a DCOM Server: Microsoft.ApolloBaseGame_1.114.3624.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe!forzamotorsport7 as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error:
“317"”
This Apollo base game is Forza 7 and here is the existing topic on this subject https://forums.forzamoto…crshing-to-desktop.aspx
Without giving Turn 10 any information other than it doesn’t work, how can you expect them to get to the bottom of this. You have to try to narrow it down because literally could be 100’s of different things. I worked as a Win System Admin for many years and this is one of the first steps of troubleshooting.
People like Leetorts think we should be fixing T10s game for them. I refuse to believe they are not aware of this nagging issue including others that have been in the game for the past 3 months. This is not some isolated crash under some niche specific hardware or circumstance, there have been dozens of posts about this … But then you have that one guy that says “But the game works fine for me! you guys are wrong !.” I’ve never had more trouble with a game 3 months after release than Forza 7.
Same thing happened to me , I have been able to play from launch until 12-12-17 after a windows update, reinstalled it wouldnt take , finally I did a uninstall and re installed from beginning did everything with the app updating installing and same thing everytime I click start on forza the screen flashes back to where you click start again, I even tried to turn the clock back on the computer but the last windows update was named critical and could not be back dated to a previous version . Now I am dead in the water after 6 x 5 hour installs.
it seems like there is no communications between t10, Xbox, and Windows update team.
it’s almost like they do not give a cramp about the pc players. I will not get xbox since my high end wheel and pedals are not compatible , not willing to spend $2000.00 just to play forza on the Xbox.
if this does not get fixed soon I will never a purchase Microsoft racing game ever again and just stick to Iracing
Dude you have to give them more than it won’t open. Of course they are aware of the issue, they do read the forums. Everyone has a bunch of junk running which they are oblivious too, so it is really hard for Turn 10 to diagnose the problem. It could be your permissions are set wrong, you have a virus scan running in the background, and old driver a new driver that is faulty etc… etc… etc… The list goes on and on. Like I said it works fine on my 3 yr old gaming laptop and I am extremely diligent about what programs I allow to run in the background. I have been a PC gamer for about 30 years and you have to have some know how to be able to do that. In fact the knowledge of PC’s I gained from gaming when I was younger is what brought me to becoming a sys admin in the first place. If you don’t want to put in the smallest amount of effort like checking a log than you should stick with consoles. Lots of PC game have problems like this, there is nothing unusual about that. It is not a console there are 1000’s of permutations so if you provide no info how can they fix it? If you check the logs, send then the error message than they will be able to figure it out because they will know the root causes of the issue. It isn’t like you can call a tech who can remote access you PC to see what’s wrong. In a perfect world it would be great if they had that, but they don’t so you have to do a little leg work if you want to get it fixed.
leetorts, the game itself is not really the problem, ok in the very beginning it had awful memory leak but most of it is fixed.
The problem lies within Windows 10 itself, mainly the UWP Platform, Appx WinRT stuff, the Xbox components that Forza7 uses which is all UWP based. I always said that the core functionality of Windows10 is pretty good, but the UWP Platform is way too sensitive to catch corruption of any kind. before you know it, your start menu breaks, WMI / DTC / DCOM / COM+ breaks, registry corruption, file and folder security permission issues after a WindowsUpdate, windows services get corrupted, network functionality breaks like Teredo issues and such. what else?
A while back i wrote a whole guide for possible solutions.
I even made a request that for the future they should really make a Xbox-Troubleshooting tool, so people won’t get stuck at “forza splash screens or press enter to start screens”
I worked my whole life with computers, IT-related, started on the MSX1, Commodore Amiga 500/1200, PC eventually.
I agree that if you don’t have much technical experience, maybe a console is better suited, but some are stuck with a PC for whatever reason that may be, they pay alot of money for this game and don’t wanna be bothered by endless troubleshooting, they just want to play the game without gamebreaking bugs that leads to reinstalling Windows10 over and over again.
It’s a shame in my opinion that UWP is so fragile, it’s like a house of cards, 1 card falls, the whole house collapses so to speak. I seriously hope they will improve this part of Windows 10 in the future.
so I am stuck on please wait syncing data on all forza games. Never past 0% on Forza Apex, Horizon 3 and Forza 7. I sold my xbox so this would be my only way to play forza. I see your link what option would I do to resolve this error. I need to do them all?
Same problem for me since the 1709 update.
Yesterday I played Forza 7 fine, today impossible to launch the game.
That’s just incredible, and for sure I will NEVER buy something else on the Windows Store.
You buy games and you can’t play
Just purchased this game from the windows store and guess what I’m having the same issue as everybody else with event viewer giving this error (unable to start dcom server) ive tried all the workarounds and nothing works splash screen shows for a second then nothing
started getting a different error msg popping up now saying You need to be online to open this. which is weird coz I’m definitely online or I wouldn’t be typing this also downloaded forza apex just out of curiosity and that works fine so its nothing to do with my rig
I had this problem as well. With my slow internet connection it’s a major hassle to download the game, but after all the other suggested fixes failed to work I deleted the game and reinstalled it. That fixed the problem, but Microsoft seems to be completely unaware that some of their customers don’t have easy access to fast, unlimited internet with the way the whole Microsoft store is set up. Really wish the store had a repair app option to fix just the things that are broken rather than having to start completely from the beginning with a 100GB app.
