  • Early Access (September 29 release) was only available with the Ultimate Edition (both disc and digital).

  • Promotional DLC Driver Gear was limited by date and eligible countries, either with retail products or for in-game contests.
  • VIP and Car Pass are available for every owner to purchase after launch as add-ons for Standard and Deluxe Editions, but only the Ultimate Edition (disc and digital) includes both and costs less as a bundle than as add-ons.

FM7 Game Edition Comparison

FM.net: Hoonigan Car Pack Announcement (pre-order bonus content for FM7/FH3)
FM.net: Pre-Order Announcement
FM.net: Features Announcement (E3 reveal)
Xbox.com: FM7 Game page
Rating: ESRB-E, PEGI-3

Release Dates
September 29, 2017 - Ultimate Edition only (disc and digital formats)
October 3, 2017 - Standard and Deluxe Editions
November 7, 2017 - Xbox One X releases

Format differences

  • Game content and features are the same on disc, digital console, and PC formats; the only difference is display quality. Resolution is limited to 1080p on the Xbox One and Xbox One S, while it will be native true 4K on the Xbox One X and can be adjusted for hardware performance on PCs via in-game settings.
  • HDR display (enabled tv/monitor required) is available on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, which will make the gameplay look more vibrant and realistic. The Xbox One X will make the game look better on the same 1080p display vs a One or One S due to supersampling.
  • There is no extra game purchase required to switch from an Xbox One to the new One X; your gamesave is saved in the cloud, digital game/DLC ownership is linked to your Microsoft account, and the same disc will work in the One / S / X.
  • PC play is only available with digital download editions (some retailers offer digital codes which you can redeem at Xbox.com) and Windows 10 computers; the disc will not run in a PC. Owning a console is not required. See the Xbox Play Anywhere FAQ and FM.net forum discussion thread.
    Download/install size
  • 100GB or less, depending on the console (One and One S won’t use the 4K assets for the One X). Detailed info TBA.
  • Pre-load info TBA.

Purchase methods, delivery, and cancellation

  • The Xbox.com page for FM7 has pre-order links for each edition which redirects to the Microsoft Store.
  • Disc versions can be pre-ordered at the Microsoft Store and major retailers.
  • Digital versions can also be pre-ordered from the console, from the Store app on Windows 10 PCs, from Microsoft.com, from the Xbox app, and from retailers who will print or email a code to be redeemed on your console or at Xbox.com
  • Delivery date and codes from retailers should be confirmed by the buyer directly with the vendor involved in the purchase.
  • Pre-orders from Xbox can be cancelled before release by contacting Xbox Support.

Promotional DLC: Totino’s livery Pagani Huayra '12 and Driver Gear

Official site: https://totinos.promo.eprize.com/forza
Forums: discussion thread
Store Link: Not available for purchase
Release date: October 15, 2017 - April 2018

These promotional DLC items are not available to purchase separately from Xbox or the Windows Store. Totino’s pizza products have codes for entry into sweepstakes, and automatic installation of DLC cars and Driver Gear with Totino’s theme. The sweepstakes entry process is limited to U.S. residents, but the DLC codes work in any Xbox region. The “2012 Pagani Huayra Totino’s Edition” is a separate model in game from the standard Huayra. Unless a content update adds the cars to the roster for all players, they will not be available to rent in Free Play for players who have not installed the DLC.

Car Pass

FM.net: Pre-Order Announcement
Forums: discussion thread
Microsoft.com: Store
Release date: October 2017 (effective starting November)

Edit: On May 17, 2018, Brian Ekberg announced on #InsideXbox that the Car Pass would be extended to include two more monthly packs plus the Hoonigan Car Pack (available in June).

The Car Pass is not a DLC itself, but a bulk discount on DLC that can be purchased separately. From the Windows Store description: “Get six monthly car packs at one low price. With the Forza Motorsport 7 Car Pass, you’ll always be dialed in to the latest and greatest cars in Forza Motorsport 7. The Car Pass brings you six monthly car packs (7 cars each). That’s 42 amazing new cars in total, all waiting to be collected, customized, and raced for one low price. The Forza Motorsport 7 Car Pass is available with the Forza Motorsport 7 Ultimate Edition.” The September (Day One) Fate of the Furious Car Pack is not covered by the Car Pass.

The Car Pass is available as an add-on for Standard and Deluxe Edition owners. It can be purchased at any time (note: previous game end-of-life for DLC has been 4 years), allowing players to wait for all cars to be released before purchasing and getting the discount. However, there is no prorated discount if a player purchased the Car Pass after having already purchased one or more of the included car packs. Turn 10 typically does not reveal the cars in each pack until days before its release.

Included DLC

“Season” Pass and exclusions note
Players new to the franchise should be aware of how Turn 10 has offered the Car Pass in the past: The pass covers specified packs, not all DLC ever to be released. There may be additional DLC released for FM7 that would increase the total cost to obtain all content even further. Previous games have not offered a Car Pass 2. Be aware that the Car Pass offers nothing more than is listed; if that concerns you, you have the option to wait for reviews of the car packs before purchasing. UPDATE: The Car Pass has been extended to include the Hoonigan Car Pack in June (previously available only in pre-order bundles or as prize DLC) plus the July Top Gear Car Pack, and the August Car Pack. Info about the Formula Drift Car Pack is pending.
