Fastest Forza Drivers prefer which view ?

Hi Guys,

I spent a couple of years using a wheel and drive All assists Off, and Onboard with a controller now.

I have been trying to adapt to 3rd person, Closest behind the car view as online this can have some advantages, as in more spacial awareness of whats going on around you.

I am having trouble adjusting and can only get to within 2 seconds of my onboard times.

My question is, How do the really fast guys on Forza play ?

Is there any really fast onboard drivers using a controller ? or do most use behind car view?

Thanks

Paul

I’m not one of the fastest drivers, but I would bet a high percentage would use bumper or hood view for leaderboard times at least.

It’s not just in Forza but other games that have this view as well and the reason is simply superior visibility.

You have little obstructing your view of the track, apex, ripple strips, braking points etc, so it is easy to place the car on the ideal spot for whatever is happening.

Online head to head racing may be a different story however.

Chase cam.

was fast, now slow.

Always used bumper cam in FM.

This October will be my first full year playing Forza. I am not one of fastest drivers as you requested responses from, but I hope my advice can help you.
When I first picked up the game I only drove in cockpit cam. I couldn’t for the life of me drive the car in chase cam at all. That pretty much negated any competitive racing for me online or offline until I could figure out how to drive in chase cam.
So that being said here is my advice to get better. First off change your steering dead zones in chase cam to something that you can control better. I use 0-100 for cockpit. I changed them to have more dead zone at the outside and inside. That helped me drive the car better in chase cam. Overtime I got faster in chase and then made the switch back to full 0-100 for the steering dead zone. I now drive only with 0-100 for both chase cam and cockpit cam or any other cam model.
My overall best advice is never get to comfortable with just one cam. Practice them all (Far Chase, Close Chase, Bonnet, Bumper, Cockpit etc.) By mixing it up and never using the same cam over and over, you become more comfortable with how the car is rotating. You will also be able to hone in on draw distances and breaking points better if you can drive comfortably in all cam models.
Hope this helps.

I think this is terrific advice. But for me I refuse to drive in anything except Hood cam. Because that most accurately replicates real driving when I’m using my wheel setup. I’m not the fastest driver by any stretch. The main reason I play this game is to enjoy racing high performance cars that I will never drive let alone probably see in person. I do know that if I was wanting to be competitive online I would definitely switch to chase cam so I can see where all the monkeys are around me keeping me from being smashed through a corner.

If you want to be fast use either cockpit or hood cam. Chase cam is fine for cruising but you can’t be as accurate with that view as you can be with the other two due to how much the camera swings.

This doesnt even make sense. In cockpit cam you cant even see where the passenger side of your car is. Why would this be more accurate than from chase cam where you can see in real time the exact position of all of your car?

It has nothing to do with seeing your car. Cockpit and hood cam are point and shoot. You aim the front of the car at the apex and you can hit it consistently. Chase cam has too much sway so you’re not always looking at where you want to go and therefore it isn’t as accurate. I use hood can far more than cockpit and that’s where I get my fastest times.

There’s no sway with chase cam unless maybe you’re talking about the motion blur junk that can be turned off. Chase is pretty accurate in every other Forza and I’ve never had problem seeing the apex. You can even see when you’re about to exceed max grip before doing a big drift. My fastest times in Forza are in chase though hood wasn’t far off the few times I tried it. Just can’t stand only looking at the track.

When you turn you can see the sides of the car. That’s what I’m talking about when I say camera sway. If the camera was 100% locked in position you wouldn’t see it at all.

Use whatever you are quickest with. While there may be something more popular its you that counts.

I race with lots of really fast guys. About 80-90% race in chase cam. Most of the rest use bonnet or bumper, and just a few use cockpit.

Mostly chase near, but sometimes if the cockpit view has a great position like the Ferrari 641 I’ll use that…

I’ve been adapting to the chase cameras, but near and far. I’ve found that it helps when navigating through the pack as I am able to see the exact position of other cars and it seems to have helped my abilities.

Cockpit view is good too, but I’ve found myself only using it when I’m alone or out in front. Chase cam definitely gives a better sense of what is going on around me and helps avoid major incidents.

Protip: It also helps determine the position of an upcoming rammer/crasher in multiplayer and makes it easier to avoid said idiot.

LOL sure does

I did get to a point where if i just used chase cam then i could equal or sometimes beat my onboard times, but it really seems to mess me up jumping between the 2 views.

I love the immersion of the onboard. chase cam is a completely different game to me, def has its advantages online.

i do agree that some cars do have limited FOV when you are onboard.

I’m Gonna have to keep working at it, don’t get any easier the older you get LOL interesting comments there guys and food for thought cheers !

In single player campaign, i’d always drive Cockpit - for the immersion effect

Rivals & Online - I use faraway chase cam. As you say - better spacial awareness. But I also find it helps with spotting and lining up apexes (e.g. First turn on Indianapolis is a nightmare to hit bang on in cockpit with suggested line off - you just can’t see the apex)

I’ve race with a lot of super fast guys and chase cam is probably used most. A lot do use bumper cam for hotlapping. Some do cockpit.

Generally though, these guys are so good that they would do well with any perspective. They are good enough to adapt. Seems like it’s more of preference and comfort zone.

Chase does help a lot with multiplayer shenanigans and in close battles. Lost count how many times I was run off the road because someone in cockpit or hood view didn’t see me.

Couldn’t have set it better myself! There’s no magical car view that makes one fast.

I have always preferred bonnet or bumper cam for Forza, especially now I use a wheel. But given the new view in the FM7 demo; I can see myself using that a lot more. I love views like that, and I use them when they are available to me. Especially in Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa. Either way though, it will all boil down to your own personal preference. I would say to try all the views, see what works for you. Do not worry too much about what view someone else may or may not be using.
