i always use 1st person view for all driving games, bumper normally although i’m using bonnet cam (hood) more often
dont’ really use the inside car views in horizon as the sound is more muffled
i think its harder, the view is lower so you cant see as far in front, therefore less thinking time, it also seems faster as the road is closer… its also more realistic
i drive in real life too so it feels more natural
in 3rd person you can see more of the car and you can see other cars getting closer
every streamer or youtuber only seems to use 3rd person, i think this has a definite advantage in online play as you can see whats going on around you much easier
also there’s no mirrors in 1st person so there’s no way to easily see whats happening behind you…
I mostly do online races so i use 3rd person view. It’s way easier for me to drive that way in game. First person view is nice to have and i sometimes use it when messing around or to see how a car sounds and looks from the inside. The thing with first person view and competetive racing is that i feel like the point of view is not big enough. Although the point of view is pretty much the same as in real life the difference is that in real life it’s easy to make small movements in a certain direction with your head while in game making those movements with the joystick adds to the complexitivity of racing.
Third person, always. Can’t stand cockpit view, no matter how much I’ve tried. I think it’s because of the limited peripheral vision due to the limitations of the screen size. Somebody here posted a video of them using 3 monitors in first person view, and it looked awesome.
The only exception was one of the career mode challenges in FM7, where we had to drive a big 'ole trophy truck or something, and the player truck took up too much of the screen, and I couldn’t see anything in front of me.
Bumper cam for that extra intensity when playing single player, and the farther-away 3rd person for multiplayer so I can avoid most bumps and scrapes with other drivers.
i use a wheel mostly but sometimes just hoon around with the controller
i know what you mean about limited peripheral visibility, i think having mirrors could help, also adjusting the FOV, but it can start to look really weird and stretched… the triple monitor looks awesome, PC only tho?
ive tried VR driving (gt sport, drive club) and its fantastic although i got motion sickness and had to stop :>( but that’s amazing
It depends on the car and situation, I generally prefer first-person and i hate the full roll cage that ruins the interior, but if I really need to concentrate then I will switch to 3rd person. People might say first person is more realistic, but the truth is… without VR first person only gives you a letterbox view through the windshield. In real life, obvioulsy you have far greater 3 dimensional and gravitational awareness, but in a game you can’t really emulate that so it makes more sense to use the 3rd person view.
3rd person most of the time, espicialy when racing or trying get best possible lap. But sometimes i like cruise around the map with first person view and turn volume up a lot.
@mapspam I use controller, would be nice to get wheel tho. Then propobly would use more cockpit view.
I use bonnet cam, which I consider to be 1st person view from the car’s perspective. In car views are far too restrictive and bumper cam is too low. All 3rd person views are rubbish for actual racing.
When on wheel 1st person, would like to use interior view but the gear grind kills it lol, so on wheel hood view. on controller it depends, drifting or offroad 3rd person, on road and going full tryhard 1st person hood view.
As I’m a tuner I have to use 3rd Person to gauge how the car responds in corners and under braking: body roll and how the tires settle back in through a turn.
Once I get a car dialed in, however, I am one who will turn off all HUD elements and cruise in 1st person cockpit, relying solely on the dash instruments and Anna’s voice cues for navigation.
I was almost exclusively 1st person from 2013 when I started playing these games. Then last spring I found out that all but one that I heard of use 3rd person in Forza RC. I don’t have a good wheel, and often found the view too restrictive. In a real car your peripheral vision is better and you can turn your head slightly to see the corners. In game it was more compelling but I wanted to drive faster and found all my struggles were related to the 1st person view especially in Horizon where ever couple of years all the tracks and environment changed.
At least in Motorsport you can learn the tracks over many years in Horizon it was taking too long and with aggressive multiplayer drivers and/or drivatars, 1st person was hard.
So I switched to 3rd person. It’s been a long slow crawl but I’m finally competitive in regard to speed and getting better. I’ve improved more in less than a year in 3rd person than in years using 1st person.
I’d love it if I could race in 1st person exclusively in a chair rig with a great wheel and pedals et cetera, however, for now I want to be competitive and 3rd person is paying off.
First person when using a race wheel(driver view), third person for controller.
Though if I’m having trouble with a car being “squirrelly” on a controller I find that first person helps sometimes.
Chase close camera is my main because I tune my own rides and I need to see how much the behind is sliding out on turns, unless i’m on the highway where I can see the speedo go all the way to the top. I love to see that
