Personally i find that initially i’m fastest in each new release with chase cam, but once the game’s engine and traction mechanics become 2nd nature the cockpit cam is my fastest. I applaud the people who can do bumper cam and set good times because for me, there just isn’t much sense of rotation.
Well I don’t usually post much, but this thread it pretty much up my alley lol. Now I’m not exactly in the elite racers of Forza like Laige or Lightning, but I am in the top 1000 racers at least. From my experience, testing, and watching many videos of the elite I can truly say chase far is what is used most. I experimented with this concept by running hot laps with hood (my favorite view for the sense of speed) and chase far. I ran 10 laps with each view and smashed my best hood view lap time by about .7 seconds, and my average time per lap was better as well in chase far. Also watching vids from the elite in Forza competition, it seems most use chase or chase far. As for yourself, I suggest doing the 10 lap experiment I said above and choosing what’s best for you.
I can’t use chase cam. For me, it completely looses all the sense of speed and makes the experience extremely boring. I tend to use the bonnet cam because the old cockpit limits too much the visibility. But the new wheel-less cockpit cam solves this problem and it’s amazing.
Chase cam here. It’s always seemed fastest to me since we’re playing with virtual cars and there is no direct feeling of lateral gs, etc. that we take for granted in real world driving. chase allows you to see what the car is doing and where it’s going and that info doesn’t always seem to be portrayed, or at least interpreted by me, accurately in other views. although I think that could start to change with 2 and 4k. the videos I’ve seen in those resolutions make the fov look much closer to realistic imo.
cockpit view is usually more fun though.
chase veiw till after first couple courners, then i switch to cockpit
Bonnet cam for me
I’ve always used the cockpit view for the immersion and also I feel that in the cockpit view you can feel the car rotate better. However some of the cockpits sit so far back, feels almost like sitting in the back seat how small of a view of the road you have. The new dash view is so much better I think I’ll use that.
For what it’s worth…
Last year - 2016 - Audi sponsored a 24-Hours of Le Mans competition. 18 of some of the fastest players around. Event was with gamepad controller only - no wheels.
Of those 18 players, 1 used hood view, and 1 (me) used bumper view. The other 16 all used Chase cam. Nobody used cockpit view.
Notes: If you want to be as fast as you can be, use the view you are fastest with, and stick to it. If you want to have fun and you like the cockpit view, then have fun and use cockpit view (to me, it’s like sitting in the back seat, but some people like that).
.
Hood view for me,although I like the new no wheel cockpit view in 7,chase always felt to me like driving a remote control car.
I’m usually top 1%. I enjoy the chase camera.
Been playing since FM4 and I’ve always stuck to cockpit view for immersion factor, plus I feel like I have more control.
I would use the bonnet cam if it was fixed to the bonnet and didn’t move independently (FM2 style), its just hard tell what the car is doing when the camera is disconnected. So I use a mix of near chase and cockpit, cockpit isn’t ideal as the FOV 'isn’t great More Camera views would be great, I’ve always used the roof cam in GT (T cam on single seaters) and the central dash cam in ToCA 2 and the Race 07/0n/GTR Evolution and would go for those if done in Forza.
I’ve been playing Hood cam or cockpit view since I can remember. I don’t remember the camera being disconnected at all. When I’m on hood view I’m fairly certain it’s completely solid, unless you mean the sway of the car as you go into a corner. And that seems natural and accurate to me. I’ll check it out again tonight when I play. Strange not something I’ve ever noticed because I definitely do not like camera effects where anything is moving on screen unnaturally and turn that feature off.
I use chase far.
Hood cam sometimes but very annoying in multiplayer when the “gamer tag xxx has quit” message is right in your view.
Yes, Yes, I actually ended up losing a race because of that…
I am a sucker for realism, I am thus compelled to drive on board cam as well as this I have always found it easier to judge my angles and overall rotation of the car in cockpit cam; this may sound strange because you can see MORE in the chase cam! It works for me though…
Just YouTube the Forza Championships and you will see that all the top racers are using chase cam exclusively.
For Forza Motorsport and PGR games I am bumpercam all day long, just for the fun factor with the sense of speed you get. I find that chase cam in Motorsport to be exceptionally boring due to how slow it feels. In a Rallysport or Horizon game however I prefer chase cam for the extended view and situational awareness that chase cam brings, also in Horizon your sense of speed is faster in chase cam compared to Motorsports.
Been online racing since PGR2 and the majority have always used chase cam, I believe because its the easier way to drive, in my opinion.
Ask most chase cam drivers to switch over to bumpercam and they will be reluctant but most bumpercam drivers will find it easier to make the switch.
Hood for leader board times, cockpit for everything else.
I have a bunch of top 10 times in Forza 6 and I use cockpit view in every scenario. Whether hot lapping or doing a race.
An empty track ahead with occasional lapped cars popping up is my guess for preferred view of fast drivers.
