Extremely high auction prices (and bidding) for apparently no reason

Hi everyone, I am very new to this game and the Forza franchise in general. I first played the game during the free trial on Steam three weeks ago and liked it very much overall. (So maybe my questions have answers that will be obvious to some of you.)

For one, I was a little perplexed about the pricing system in the virtual auction house in-game. For example, why is it that for some cars, I get no say at all on what is the “buy-it-now” price ? And why is it sometimes so limited overall. Fine, I don’t get to set any insane price but all the options seem very limited for just about every cars. It especially bewilders me that the granularity is so poor ! For example, being able to set but-it-now price at 100k, 110k and 200k but not anything in between !???

All these little questions wouldn’t really have resurfaced in my mind if not for the MAIN reason I am here posting for the first time because what I have next is WAY more perplexing than anything I have experienced so far:

???

Ok, first of all, who is this Mr. HatlessBTeam and how come he gets to set his buy-it-now prices this high !?
But most importantly, why are other buyers bidding so high too !!? I still wasn’t minding too much if someone somehow hacked an exploit to set unreasonable prices as I would just ignore them but apparently these offers have real value behind them !?? The car is still rated at the default rating of 609 matching brand new cars of that normally very cheap model… so what gives !??

More optional context if you are interested: The seller has posted 5 exact copies of this cars with a starting bid of 3000 within a minute or two and having observed the general behavior of the market at this auction house, I knew that I had a good chance of getting some of them for very cheap so I became the first bidder for all of them. Sure enough, it’s not shown in the image but I managed to get not one but TWO of them in the end at or near starting bid price (am not sure if it was as low as 3000, my memory is fuzzy now). For some inexplicable reason every other buyer piled on the first three car for sale and ignored the last two.

So apparently, I am now in possession of potentially very high value Silvias but can’t see why they would be any more valuable than the baseline Nissan Silvia 1998.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

Welcome to the forums!!

One reason that they do that is that they can.

Another reason is that the cars might be super rare or playlist exclusives. The sticker price won’t be that high, but they can sell the cars for high price because they are nearly impossible to find.

Hope this helps!!!

I’m sorry, I don’t really get it. What is super rare about it ? How can I figure out what is rare about it ? I noticed that I can’t access the tuning option of the car without overwriting/destroying (whatever the word the english system language uses, idk). So I can’t see what is special about it apparently if it is in the tuning/enhancing part of it.

Can I even resell one of the two at a high price or is it worthless once in my hands ? lol

Also, what is it that you call “playlist exclusive” ? I can’t think of anything I encountered in the game that can be called “playlist”.

Thanks for the quick reply !

Oh no prob.
@Lens00788814159 is correct.

The cars are rare because they only come around not much more that once. Some of those cars may never be seen again unless through the AH. They think people will spend that if they want the cars.

@Lens00788814159 , @Agent4Christ962

Do you guys mean the monthly Festival thing with the red interface ??
I remind you we are talking about what appears to be a very cheap Nissan Silvia K 1998 that can be bought brand new for 25k…

…I still don’t get it.

Take a look at the AH picture and see who tuned the car.
Then take a look at @Lens00788814159’s post.
They can charge more for popular tuners.

Also some people are downright crazy and will charge incredible prices for there cheap cars.

So it’s just the popularity of the tuner ? Because it very much seems like they drive exactly the same as any other Nissan Silvia.

I guess so. The fh5 AH makes no sense.

Honestly, that’s the best answer I got so far lmao.

In any case, it makes me wonder if there is a chance for me to sell one or both of these cars at high price. So people can set much higher buy-it-now prices but how ?

As far as I know.

These Silvias are nothing special. They can be purchased in the Autoshow for 25k. I don’t know why the seller thought to put them up for 20 million. It doesn’t makes sense and is simply an attempt to rip off players IMO.

That said there are cars that are going for 20 million because they’re rare and hard to get. Here’s an example.

It sold after about 10 secs for the max price.

Like already mentioned people that achieved “legendary” status can set max prices of up to 20 mil for most but not all cars (some have a locked lower max price).

The price range you can chose for a sale is a bit odd. It’s 10k intervalls until 110k then 100k up to 1 million and from then on million increments. Don’t ask why. It’s simply the way PGG decided to go with.

Legendary “Painter” * status iirc, something like 50,000 downloads of your created custom liveries or vinyls. Yeah. Easy peasy…

  • maybe “Tuner” too ?

EDIT : Oops, missed that previous answer by PlageBLN right above :+1:

It’s definitely tunes and paints that can give you legendary status. I’m not sure if you can get it for vinyls, photos, eventlab creations or community challenges. It would make sense if you can get it for all of the six categories in the creative hub.

To my knowledge it’s currently only for liveries or tunes. (Or both.)

50k among downloads +likes+uses within that category (liveries or tunes).

It’s a pretty opaque process, and there’s No associated accolade or whatever. You find out you have it when you can set the buyout to 20 mil. I have a suggestion that there be badges/flair associated with it. That way people know you have it (and YOU know you have it).

I’ve got both, but I can’t recommend my tunes. My liveries get shared on the weekly threads for free.

How to achieve legendary tuner status.

Method 1:
Have a popular media channel (YouTube/twitch/kick/wtc)… feature your tune… done. Simplest… probably not the easiest. I’m not interested in that kind of a grind, so that’s out.

Method 2:
Get your tune featured in a popular channel. Similar to above, but you don’t have to have your own channel. I’ve actually used this method, and it’s how I got legendary tuner. The community is not super huge, so networking wise it’s not too difficult to get connected to folks that have a channel. Once the tune is out there, it can end up getting re-shared by bigger/more popular channels. This is honestly probably the easiest way, but it requires some people skills

Method 3:
Weekly tunes. We have resident tuners that make tunes for the weekly seasonal events. Make tunes for the trials, pr stunts, seasonal championships, etc. A lot of folks use that thread (and a similar one on reddit) to get their tunes.

Method 4:
Just toil away in obscurity. Hardest by far. The in-game visibility is REALLY low, so unless you have a tune that’s popular, you’re unlikely to get a popular tune unless it somehow ends up getting featured. A lot of the bigger name tuners have tons of followers and some of the shadier ones have friends/club mates/etc to artificially get a bump with respect to that.

This all mostly pertains to tunes, which are functional. While I imagine having a large platform could help with featuring liveries, it’s harder to get someone to download a livery unless they actually like how it looks. Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s still folks that game the system by having folks download their livery in hopes of getting featured in the suggested liveries. There’s several spots for new liveries, and there’s other spots for liveries that are already popular. My most downloaded livery isn’t remarkable, but got featured early in the life of the release of the vehicle and caught enough downloads to end up in the popular section for a bit. Most of mine get featured in the new section for a few days and then are dropped off, so anything in the 10’s of downloads is a base hit, with something 100+ being really excellent for me.

I use a strategy similar to the weekly tunes but with liveries, trying to make sure to have some options for the various events. It’s fun, and I especially like doing requests for folks. Some of the requests have ended up being some of my most downloaded liveries, so it’s a win/win. The whole Manchester City pattern was a request, as was the Venom livery that I did.

I used method 4 and it was a very long and sometimes discouraging journey to legendary tuner status.

I got lucky with a couple of random daily challenge tunes going somewhat viral for some reason and that took me to tuner rank 10.
I was stuck at rank 10 for what seems like forever, but then anti-lag was added to the game, so I started making anti-lag tunes for all of the popular cars and within a week I jumped from rank 10 to rank 20,
and at that point my festival playlist tunes started getting featured
on the suggested tunes list and they’ve been doing great ever since then.

Didn’t take long to get legendary status at that point.

To add on to what’s been said so far…

When a player gets legendary tuner status, they can take any car that they’ve tuned and list it for up to 20m. Technically, if they adjust the tire pressure the game counts the car as “tuned”.

Similarly with legendary painter, they can take a car and add 2 vinyls/masks to make the car eligible for the 20m listing.

There are some tuners and painters that do put effort into their 20m listings. Obviously there are some that just take advantage. So buyer beware.

If you see something listed that sparks your interest especially if it’s an autoshow car, check out the tuner’s or seller’s creative hub to see if it’s also shared there.

I am extremely new, I downloaded the game about six months ago but just started playing about a week ago.

Because I am new, I have a perspective on the auctions that could be correct, or completely wrong.

Sometimes, it appears to me, that skins/vinyls drive the price of the vehicle.

I see sometimes a vehicle that normally wouldn’t be that high, but the vinyl on it I can’t find anywhere else.

Do players create sought after vinyls, then only share them through the auction by selling them on a vehicle?

If that’s not the case please educate me.

That’s quite possible. I also have some unshared liveries that you can only get when I decide to auction a car with one.

The pricing of a car doesn’t really gets defined by the tune or livery. A tune can add a couple of bucks related to the overall price but it’s rather neglectable. A livery won’t add anything to the value.

I guess it depends on how you define value.

Aesthetics can be of value.

And if not value, definitely “sellability”, which just means if two are the same price and one has a desirable skin/vinyl the one with the desirable vinyl will sell first at the same price.

I’m only talking about the value in ingame credits. I’m a painter myself and have over 450 designs uploaded to the hub. There aren’t that many players that don’t care for what they pay and will go for a car just because of the design no matter the price. The aesthetics seem to be rather irrelevant for most buyers to my experience.
